For your new orchard and nut trees it would be a good time to establish some honey bee colonies! You'll need all those pollinators with all the new trees!
Good morning Mr Danny and Ms Wanda. Camp is looking very nice. Doing a wonderful job. Great idea with the citrus trees. Have just about given up as we have lost so many to one cold night. Have a blessed day.
I have a little propane heater in my greenhouse that turn on during nights under 32F. It keeps my more tender tropical and citrus trees alive just fine. I am in the N FL Panhandle, zone 9a. We get nights in the 20's F sometimes. I have Longan, Starfruit, dragonfruit, huge fruiting Monstera delisiosa, Buddah's Hand, Thai Limes, etc.
I personally think building hot houses just for your citrus and planting them in the ground in the hot house is a good idea. When temps get above 50 steadily again remove the plastic and leave the frame until the cold comes again.
Wish I could have the youpon holly! We are growing it for tea, it's so good! The only caffeinated plant that grows in the U.S. We have bought 2 bushes and plan on planting more in spring. It has no tannins like regular tea, so it never turns bitter, Very light and smooth and lots of health benefits.
Maybe next winter use hay bails all the way around🎉you can also put plastic and blankets around your plants like a second greenhouse...besides lights ahead of time.😂😂😂you just made your own orangerie!!❤
Thanks Danny. If it was me I would put a cage around the filberts until they get established and growing well. to keep the deer from chewing on them. I don't know if they would be tempted but I do know from experience that they will destroy young apple, peach and pear saplings. Much Love ❤
With all your deer pressure you need Billy's Bone Sauce made by Billy at Permapasture Farm. I've been using it for a couple of years now and as Billy says "It keeps the buck OUT!"
I would love to know how you decide what trees go where and how you get them to big before the deer eat them to the ground. I'm trying to figure this all out on my property
Do you have any idea what you just let yourselves in for? Guarantee you, the garden of eating will be getting an abundant start. Next month you will be getting seeds that I haven’t been able to plant, and probably enough of them to share - especially the pawpaws, which thrive on stream sides and neglect. Once things settle down a bit, honeybees might be a good idea.
Good morning guy's. You're home is beautiful. I have a question about your future orchard. I have always been told you not to plant fruit and nut trees together. Will you be separating it in separate sections? We have been building a small homestead for 3 and a half years now. We put nut trees on a separate area away from the fruit trees. So far everything is doing great. God bless you guy's and have a blessed Christmas ❤
I am considering planting a citrus tree of some sort this spring. Is that something that requires 2 trees in order to produce? I have not planted trees before. Have a lovely day.
I love the new house at Pecan Grove. It looks so homey and warm.

Our neighbors have several dozen hives.

I watch a fella down in Scranton South Carolina that sprays water on his trees if the temps get below 30s. Stan the Citrus Man

I just pulled my citrus trees into my makeshift green house. They too are blooming.
Love you kids. May God continue to bless you richly with deepest love, and tender joy. Your friend on the Pascagoula.
I had to laugh a couple days ago here in SC, I had 50-100 Robins running around in my front yard, I love the birds too. 😍

Cool idea. I put my flowers (some anyway) on my inclosed porch. For winter.
Northern Indiana so it gets cold.

Just finished picking our naval oranges this week. Most we had in pastv5 years living here. 100 oranges.
Your are right about the rattle snake, it will bite you!! I hope you check the driven sprockets' run out.

Mostly it's based on sunlight needs. The deer are our biggest challenge.
@pecangrovems mine too. The deer and elk are hungry!

Most trees do okay around each other. With the exception of walnut and eucalyptus trees.
@pecangrovems good to know, thank you
Citris On Wheels. i suppose you could refer to it by it's acronym COW. 😀👍

Nice shop. How come we never see you doing projects in the shop? Hint, hint...lol
In time
