I literally just said this! I would 1000% buy it and leave Apple in a heartbeat!
I wish it was “inevitable” for them to bring the sidekick back. But sadly, I don’t think it’ll ever return. When I was younger, EVERYONE I knew wanted the sidekick. It was the most talked about phone at the time. If it somehow returns in the future, I’d drop my IPhone 11 in a heartbeat. But if it did return, the price point would be through the roof. They know people want it back, so they’ll charge as much as they can for it😒
if they bring it back, it should be in a form of a modern phone, but the ui and design of the phone should express tradition, if they pull another sidekick 4 it will fail miserably and they will never give it another chance, blackberry learned the hard way.
I would gladly ditch my iPhone for a sidekick remaster today

Bro, I was the boss with this phone in school! At that time nobody had mobile Internet around me and having mobile Internet in your pockets at this functionality was insane. The Sidekick was a cool phone and I miss AIM.

Sidekick was my shit. Before iPhone, Sidekick was the phone to own! I remember editing my MySpace on it, I had my music Playlist and I watched UA-cam on it before smart phones were a real thing. It was a great device, and very private with the swivel screen.

I remember begging my parents to get me this phone in middle school and my dad finally bought me the sidekick 3 then I got the sidekick LX, seriously those were my favorite phones I’ve ever owned! They were so cool back then🥺😭😭
The SideKick? I had a SideKick 3 back in '06. I took it apart, and repainted it (wet sanding and all) piano black and a mother of pearl. It was an amazing color combo and it got people looking!

I had it as a matching set with my Antec 1030 case that I painted in the same colors. 2 primer coats, 3 color coats, and 2 top coats - all wet sanded in between coats... I did 3 polish went sanding w ultra fine grit paper and then used actual polish and buffer that to a shine. I wish I had pictures of them both!

Sidekick 3 was the best phone i ever had. I use to type so fast on them. Loved the cloud backup and AIM messenger was awesome.
The sidekick made TEXTING seem like a fun AND cool way to COMMUNICATE in 2002 with flashy celebrities commercials AND young pop culture presence/use 💯
I loved my sidekick 3. If there was a 2020 version or handheld game system with that body, I would jump on it.

Can you imagine if UA-cam was out before the 2002 launch of this phone. It would have definitely been even more significant. UA-cam had been out for one year before the sidekick 3 was released. However I don’t think UA-cam was big enough at this time to be considered a way of consuming content or a viable way to watch videos on computers let alone on a cellphone. Your videos are a great source of dopamine for me. I haven’t subscribe till just now. But that was because I thought I had the first time I came across your channel. THANK YOU FOR BRINGING THESE BEAUTIFUL PHONES BACK TO LIFE. And holding on to the science and advancements these phones have given humanity.
Wow, super nostalgic. I got the LX in 2007 when it first came out.
I was 13 or 14 and a Freshmen in high school. We weren’t that rich but my mom knew I really wanted it and somehow made it happen.
I remember Tmobile would replace my phone for free whenever I asked, so eventually they sent me a Sidekick 2008 and I sent back the LX.
Great memories with both phones!

not sure if anyone has commented on this yet, but a racing videogame came to mind that featured this phone, "Midnight Club Los Angeles" (2008). I remember the player character always getting missions and information through their T-Mobile branded Sidekick 3 phone. Plus everytime when the phone rang, the phone flipped over to show the screen and keyboard in all its glory. Quite heavy advertising haha

I has a Sidekick. It was great. It was only on GSM I remember. One thing not mentioned as that you could be on your AOL Buddy List as well. Super powerful back in the day.

I had a Sidekick II and to this day it's still my favorite phone ever. So unique and fun to use, and it was honestly a really reliable phone too. I don't think it ever crashed on me. Definitely the best mobile keyboard I've ever used, no contest. I had a developer key back then and I used to flex my custom ringtones all the time, I did the whole bejeweling thing the celebs did too only mine was a Hello Kitty design. I miss that phone so much!
It was iCloud before the iPhone too. I had it while I was in programming school and I used to write out my assignments in the notes app, then log into the web interface once in class and just copy/paste to turn them in. That was a very unique feature back then, no other mobile device had cloud services until the iPhone came along. I think that's why I like iOS so much now, so many elements of iOS remind me a lot of DangerOS.
Really can’t say enough about how great and reliable the II was. The 3 was good just not as durable

This is the greatest phone I’ve ever owned. I went to high school in New Jersey around 2006 and everyone had this phone. It was so ahead of its time that I wasn’t even impressed when the iPhone made its debut - I could browse social media (MySpace), use AIM, could listen to music and watch UA-cam videos. Ahead of its time, for sure!
I miss my Sidekick 2. Damn nostalgia. Back when I was in Jacksonville Florida. I was in the Navy, I had my Sidekick. I used to message everyone w my AIM. Amazing times.
I had always wanted a sidekick when it first came out. But I member them bein pretty expensive at that time so I never got one. I'll never forget how quickly it gained in popularity tho.

That phone was great for sms, I still have my SK2 though there is a screen ribbon cable problem after all these years. I own a SK3 the push up screen wasn't really something I liked and gave that away. Nice memories.

I got so many chicks with the sidekick LX and my Nextel i730 i had the Nextel for calls and the chirp and the sidekick was for Aim , Text, music and web browsing oh and not to mention my iRiver Mp3 player with fresh songs downloaded via limewire ...ahh simpler times
I had the first b&w Sidekick when I lived in Hollywood, Florida. I stayed in a apt that was one street back from the broadwalk and being able to walk out my front door and be on the beach with my "computer' any time I wanted was frickin epic. I'll never forget, I was in a local bar one evening and some obnoxious drunk was trying to tell me that the movie Heavy Metal came out in '83 and I told him it was '81 ( it was my favorite movie at the time), so I pulled out the ol Sidekick and Googled it, ended that discussion real fast lol. Ah the good old days.
Hands down may favorite phone for the time I had it. I had a super cute pink and white sidekick 3 in 2008, a little while after the phone was released but it was an affordable option at the time.
I love the homage to the slide-and-click sound of opening the device. Omg, SUCH A SATISFYING SOUND. I would get such a rush of dopamine to the sound of my sidekick sliding open 😂
AND IT HAD A MYSPACE APP! I was definitely the coolest girl in my grade all thanks to that phone 😂
The sidekick was a such a cool phone. I remember verzion and sprint had similar models. But along with blackberry it paved the way for the modern smartphone.

Bro, back in high school I was the shit cause I was one of the only kids that had a phone yet alone a sidekick I was lucky enough to work with my dad and I was able to save money to buy little things here and there as a highschooler that shit was awesome This phone was so underrated. I was one of the only people that will be able to text all the time call and beyond my space and all kinds of Internet apps. Nothing beats this phone for its time.

I had basically every Sidekick from the 2, forward, and I loved them. I still wish Danger was around, and hadn't sold off to Microsoft. Microsoft could have at least kept the service active, instead of giving us that garbage Windows Mobile/Windows Phone crap.

It's not under rated my generation the millennial gen all had these . Every single one of us had one . It was the precursor to the smart phone . It's may be under rated with old people or kids to young to remember but with our gen we all loved and had those things . I actually even had the smart phone version made by Samsung and TMobile ... Yea that's right. There was a Samsung sidekick touch back in 2011

Found out about the Sidekick through Midnight Club LA. This looks cool!
I had the Hiptop (sidekick 2) before I went BlackBerry. This phone cost me $150 in data international roaming charges, when I had to turn it on for 5 minutes to call my mum that my flight was delayed.
I was actually able to speak to one of the co-founders of danger, Joe britt (who was mentioned in this video). Very cool guy!

Man, it had been so long I almost correct 2.5G but you're 100% correct as Edge or EGPRS was 2.75G technically, as standard GSM/TDMA/cdmaONE were our 2G that allowed for MMS and introduction to WAP crap. Kudos and great research, glad I did the same before wrongfully claiming otherwise

Never had a Sidekick always thought it looked like a toy plus I was 31 at the time so I was looking for something like a Palm Treo to look and act more like an adult.
