    Well I've only gone and done it. After many days of thinking I've purchased this camera and did so via your amazon link so hopefully you'll earn a few pennies from it as well. Thanks.

    Would you recommend this camera still in 2022? I've been toying with the idea of getting it, but it strikes me as the golden boy of 2016 and then not a lot has come out to challenge it/improve it since then. I want something that would work well for documentaries (amateur) and wonder if this - or something else - is the best choice.

    • @TubeShooterMag
      @TubeShooterMag  2 роки тому +2

      I still recommend it as the top consumer-grade camcorder because as you rightly point out, nothing better has been released since (the manufacturers presumably assume everyone's just using their phones these days for amateur stuff)
      It has excellent image quality, good sound (with an external mic), great stabilisation and is compact and easy to carry. I still use mine extensively.

      I just bought this yesterday and I’ve been filming trade shows for a decade. The ability to records a video for 2 hours straight without a 30 minute limit or overheating is HUGE. Plus the zoom is better than my phone or GoPro. It’s also lightning fast to setup if you are a run and gun style videographer. I hate setting up a mic and audio recorder and syncing things and booting things and plugging this and waiting for things to cycle or setup.
      Just flip the screen open and hit record….simple.
      The internal gimbal is still huge game changer too.

    I’m trying to decide between the AX 53 and the AX 700. Does anyone know if there is a difference in stabilization between the two when filming in 4K????

    • @TubeShooterMag
      @TubeShooterMag  4 роки тому +1

      Yes, the AX53 has the BOSS system in which the lens and sensor are stabilised with an internal gimbal (yes, even in 4K) while the AX700 does not, relying purely on electronic stabilisation as most camcorders do. However, the AX700, being a consumer version of the NX80 pro camcorder, has a larger sensor for better images and lowlight performance, and more advanced recording features plus much greater manual control. It's also physically larger. Deciding which is best for you is about which features you need most.

    I've been using this camera for over two years now. It gets a lot of use, sometimes a bit rough, I've used it in heavy rain, the lens can mist up in very damp condition's, but soon clears. This is an excellent camera, the only thing I would add to your review is, always use an daylight filter to protect the lens. As a user of the camera I found your review both accurate and honest, well worth a thumbs up.

    I've had my AX-53 for about 2 years and love it. The only thing that I would like to have is more control over the zoom function. The variable speed lever on the top of the camera is difficult to move accurately. If you are very careful, you can create a very nice, sloooow zoom. But, the small lever makes that difficult to achieve. The touchscreen control on the view screen is easy to use, but it has a fixed zoom rate. It would be nice to have: 1. an easier to use manual zoom control; 2) a touch screen zoom with a rate that could be varied; or 3) an external, variable speed zoom controller (like the pro cameras have.) The only other issue I have with the camera is when I put on a polarizing or ND filter that is too deep. When the image stabilization moves the lens assembly I sometimes see some darkening in the corners of the frame. This usually only happens when I am using both filters at the same time. Great camera-Highly recommended!

    Hi. I want to record craft tutorials. Which video camera is better Sony FDR AX53 vs PXW-X70? Or any suggestion is welcome

    • @TubeShooterMag
      @TubeShooterMag  4 роки тому +1

      They're very different camcorders for different levels of skill. The AX53 is largely a consumer-grade "point and shoot" (at which it does an excellent job) where the X70 (which is now superseded by the NX80 and Z90) is a more pro-oriented camcorder with detailed manual controls. The images from the more expensive camera will be better but whether it's actually better for you depends on how capable you are at filming.

    A toy worth owning is the Sony remote control and the tripod it comes with. You can turn the camera on and off with it, start and stop recording and it has a very good slow zoom that you can switch on and off. You can also turn grid lines on and off if the horizon line matters. The tripod has a very good head on it but sad to say the tripod is not rigid enough for high magnification. The remote is detachable and can be used without the Sony tripod. This makes it easy enough to us a professional tripod where you can still use all of the controls with it. Excellent review that I found useful when I first bought the AX53. The Sony part number is VCT-VPR1 and in OZ where I live it cost just over $200 AU direct from Sony.

      Although I've tried both cameras, I've not looked at them directly side by side but I'd imagine they'd do OK; both have the 50Mbps XAVC-S codec and presumably both have the same "look", being both Sonys.

      Sorry for the dyslectic salutation David. I thought that from your review they must play well together but wanted to check in case I needed another widget of some sort. My only quibble with the AX53 so far is having to use Sony's PlayMemories to get the files out. Do you have a work-around for that? I gather you use an Apple based video editor - I'm using a PC with Power Director. Thanks again

    • @TubeShooterMag
      @TubeShooterMag  5 років тому

      I certainly don't bother with PlayMemories but I'm on a PC. I just take the SD card out and pop it into the computer. Depending on the type of file I either copy them across directly (if XAVC-S mp4) or use the editing software's Import function if AVCHD (needed so as to correctly stitch together longer files into one unit)

    • @ghlsvideos156
      @ghlsvideos156 5 років тому

      Oh! I must be doing something wrong. When I copy the XAVC-S mp4 files from the SD card to my PC and view the file with VLC Media Player, the fine details of the video don't flow smoothly, but step in intervals, of about 2 per second. Do you have any insight into this?

      Needlessly rude again, Dave. Perhaps try being more clear in your requests for info, and do try to keep it civil, eh? Politeness costs nothing. Your query was "what is the deal with" which is an extremely vague question.

    I have the FDR-AX53 but one thing i hate about it is when I'm filming something in the sky and the sun is out or a very bright day even when i shoot away left of the sun i can't even see the sky let alone a Bird in the sky using the viewfinder i wish i could get an eye cup somewhere for it.

      I agree, the viewfinder is fairly hopeless. If you find an eyecup, let me know!

      Yes i tried to film a Buzzard in the sky just the other day i had to use my left hand on the right side of the camcorder to try and block out the sun still no joy.

    Is it worth it at 1k in 2018??🤔

      Depends which currency you're using... it's only around £650-£700 GBP. It's still the best consumer grade camcorder of its type, which is not to say it suits everyone or every need. Depends what you're after.
