"The Thing" by John Carpenter in 1982 is based on the original plot and ambience in 1950s. I am afraid that we live times no references before fifty years ago. Best regards and good luck.

    The original version of "the Thing" actually was a 1950's sci-fi movie (in black and white).

      Which barely resembled the actual source material, "Who Goes There?" by John W. Campbell. The Thing was never a man in a rubber suit. The 1982 version is, by far, a more faithful representation of the book.

      @@sferrin2 Yeah, I don't think make-up effects and the censors were ready for a faithful adaptation of he short story in 1951. "The Thing from Another World" is a classic. In fact, Carpenter copied the title sequence from the original.

      1951’s movie is far more terrifying. It has superior CGI and magnificent acting which keeps you on tenterhooks from the beginning to the climax of the plot.

      @@sferrin2I listened to the audio-book of Who Goes There maybe a year ago. The 1951 version is like the first half of the book, up to the electrocution of the creature, and the 1982 version is like the second half. More or less. The monster in the 1982 version was more like that in the book, for sure.

      I don't believe I've ever heard that...perhaps it was a passing line in the movie... I thought the same. Great line!! I'm not sure it's in the 1982 film.

    Funny thing is it was based on a FIFTIES film, The Thing From Another World - which if you have not seen, you need to. Aside from being the origin of The Thing it also originated the motion detector used in the Aliens movies.

      ​@@JoseyWales44s Thanks for the clarification. All the same, it invented that BEEP BEEP BEEP OMG IT'S CLOSE! moment that the two best ALIEN movies owe half their tension to. There is a great "unveiling" moment critical to these great sci-fi horror films that rely on the IT'S ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DOOR/WALL! from The Green Slime to Forbidden Planet.

    One of the most underrated movies of all time. It was bad mouthed originally, for whatever reason, But this movie is a spookfest of the highest order. All I wanted to know when it ended was...'what happens next?"

      Besides there's a 2011 "The Thing" by directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. and written by Eric Heisserer. It is a prequel to the 1982 film. I think a 1951 movie was a pretty good black-and-white film. I saw it many years ago.

    I love how you didn't try and do the SFX monster in it, similar to how the original Alien trailer didn't show the xenomorph.

    actually The THING was based on the original movie that was filmed in the 1950's The THING from another world, which was based on a short story called "Who Goes there?"

      No, John Carpenter's The Thing was based on "Who Goes There"? It was far more faithful to the novella than Howard Hawks' 1950 film.

    "The Thing" doesn't seem to change much no matter when it's set. In fact, it has been remade twice since the original, but the basic story is the same.

    AI and the Thing share similarities as they both try to mimic reality. Surprised there was no morphing Body Horror in this which AI achieves naturally.

    This creator is familiar with the source novella. So beautifully rendered. This is a great trailer. It makes me want to see THIS movie. I don’t think this creature is one we’ve seen yet!

    The first iteration of The Thing was in 1955. Lol, These AI retro revisions only work for modern movies, not so much for titles that were originally released in that special era of film noir.

    yeah, the remake is great. but the silent b/w original from 1912 is a must-watch, too. it is said to have a superb, haunting piano & strings score written for it. maybe do you happen to have a trailer at hand? ;-D
