John, you trusted God to reveal truth to each of us about sacrifice. Here’s mine… Yesterday a coworker was unkind to me and it smarted. I cried 3 tears privately and asked the Lord to gird me for the day in Floral. As I unpacked boxes of flowers, I asked the Lord if he might really cheer me up and let me see an angel. After all, some people see them, though I never have. As the day went on, people came in for flowers for life celebrations, Get Well gifts and anniversaries. Children came by for their free balloon 🎈, young men came in for flowers 💐 for their date. With every customer, I took extra time to ensure the best possible experience, the freshest flowers, the most beautiful bouquets, the best price and value. With each customer, I noticed the presence of God encircling us, the customer and I. His presence was palpable. Later in the day, I reflected that I had not seen the angel I asked to see but nevertheless I did experience Gods presence amply. God seemed to wink at me and say with a little smile, “Susie, today you were the angel.” His grace and presence turned my sacrificial service into something much bigger than I could have imagined. Isn’t that just like Him. 🌹
This was awesome and the Philip Yancey article was such a gift. Gratitude when life is unfair, sometimes to our advantage and sometimes to our disadvantage. Thank you God, be with me always
My heart is filled with gratitude and thanksgiving for sharing your life with God with all of us. Deep truth offered with such a kind invitation gives me hope to continue on.
I am in tears. Good tears. Thank you. Although "Babette's Feast" is one of my favorite movies, your reading of the Philip Yancey summary moved me deeply as I LISTENED vs. WATCHED the movie.
John, I can't imagine your ministry being quite so real had you not been through what you have. There is a saying Ive been ruminating on (you may have said it!) "God gives you what you would ask for if you knew what HE knows. God bless you.
