The logical next step for the biggest rideshare companies is to forge more partnerships with manufacturers of EV and hybrid vehicles. The transition will be messy, tumultuous, creating a negative externality: drivers and hence their livelihood will be axed, whether full-time or part-time; and a positive externality: bigger profits for companies like Uber and Lyft as well as a more efficient transportation system.
