Modern Mercury four stroke OBs are more reliable than IOs, quieter, significantly easier preventative maintenance and winterization entails lowering the OB and let the water run out, done, although changing the lower unit gear lube is recommended and very easily accomplished by anyone with a minimum of mechanical skills. 100 hour oil change can also be done by someone with minimal skills. There is no Achilles heal of a gimble housing and bellows boots to cause leaks and repair costs. The power to weight ratio is significantly higher than comparable IO. OBs can be trimmed up higher while still maintaining control with no stress on the driveline. All manufacturers have retooled their IOs to OBs with large swim platforms while retaining the aft sun pad and lounger. The question should be what advantages does an IO have over an OB?

My only requirement for boats is that it is low enough to go through a standard garage door height
why does the chaparral website show only yamaha engines on the 2022 modesl. Is Merc still available?
Chaparral has a marketing agreement with Yamaha. Mercury outboards are available, we can order chaparral boats with them, we won’t order with Yamaha.
