oh yeah that was a VERY important part of the catalogs. It is just funny that back then, we thought we were the only ones who thought the way we did about stuff but no, it was Gen X wide.
It was nice in comparison today but compared to other decades they aren't really that good. The cold war created this cold, bleak atmosphere which is really apparent when you listen to the music. Just as artificial and boring. Synth pop was the curse that computerized music and ultimately led to the industry's downfall. All that computer made crap goes back to that era. Sure there were still good bands around I don't doubt that. But it can't compete with what was going on in the 60s and 70s. That is me saying that as a 90s kid. The best time to grow up is when we are around 12 years old, no matter what decade it is. Someone who is born in 1998, wouldn't agree that the 80's was the best decade to grow up.
It did compared to today, but for every great song you remember there were dozens, if not hundreds of horrible ones. The big difference was that were more people making music and the good stuff was appreciated.
I miss Circuit City, Montgomery Ward, Kmart, The Good Guys, Fry's electronics, May Company, Radio Shack, Tower Records all these old school retail stores
Born in 74, I miss how all the kids in the neighborhood would get together for a game of kickball, or softball n making sure u we’re back n the house before the street lights came on😊
Yup. Or Kick the Can...! Crazy how much more simple and innocent a time seemingly not so long ago was. We'd get 15 or so kids on a given night to play. I can't even imagine anything like that anymore.
My sis and I would beg to stay out after dark. Our dad finally gave in and said, "But you better not go any further than the street light! Well, we did our best. We would go any further than ohh, 30 or 40 miles from it. Seemed reasonable.
Was born in 83. I still tell everyone that the 80's was where it was at! My fondest memories! Places still had atmosphere. Everything looked and smelled so alive! And women actually looked beautiful in their "big hair" and 80's bangs! Oh how I miss it!! 😅
I was born in 1974 & I was old enough ( Thank God ) to remember the year 1980 & the rest of the 80's as well. God - I miss the 80's more than anyone out there can imagine. The Record Stores , Showbiz Pizza Place , Pizza Hut Restaurants , Atari , The 80's cereals - Pacman , E.T. , Dunkin Donuts etc , The Malls , The Movies , The old time ( mom & pop ) Drug Stores , 2 - XL , Nintendo , The Super Mario Brothers , Toys R Us , Sears Christmas Catalog , etc. I was extremely Blessed that I grew up in the 80's & This Video is GOLD !!! 👍🏻🪙👍🏻
I was also born in '72. Your exactly right. What a great era to grow up in. It's very sad, those days are long gone. If I think about it to much, it brings a tears to my eyes. Remembering great times with family, and friends who are no longer here with us.
I am so glad that I was in my 20's during the 1980's. I've not experienced a time as good as those since even with all the high tech marvels we have now. Would go back to those days in a heartbeat . I just wish I knew back then what I know now.

@@johnboehmer6683 I was always a Pac-Man and Miss Pac-Man girl, and was sensational at both of them. I remember playing a Pac-Man machine against a friend, at Blackbeards in Fresno, California, and I got over 800,000 points, and had a massive group of people watching me. My head was so big after getting that score, it could barely fit through the doors to get out!
Rhetty, now you know the 80's was the best time in human history to live and you are right the positives always outweighed the negatives. All strength came from the 80's brother 💪👍💪
Oh my gosh I can remember those years. 🤣 My heart goes out to the younger ones. It was so much fun back then and I know it was boring but we found ways to keep busy. I was born in 1974. The 80s was awesome.
I grew up in the '80s and had a pretty terrible childhood by most standards. That said, I still look back on that time period as the best time of my life. There was indeed something special about the '80s. Spending the summer being outside all day with my friends, exploring around on our bikes, building forts in the woods, and generally raising hell was always exciting. Going to the video store to rent a good VHS tape, with classics like Commando and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, was a highlight. No cell phones meant you had to memorize all of your friends' phone numbers. No need to call, though; you just went over to their house and knocked on the door to see if they were home. Everything was more laid-back and genuine; people were nicer and much more active. All of this technology we've become accustomed to is doing the opposite of what it's intended to do. Rather than bringing us closer together, it's drawing us farther apart. I look forward to living my life over and experiencing the '80s again.
I graduated from high school in 1986, my favorite science fiction movie is V in 1983; V the Final Battle in 1984; and also V the Series from 1984-1985. Knight Rider, Blue Thunder, GI Joe A Real American Hero, Street Hawk, Air Wolf, Chernobyl nuclear ☢️ radiation meltdown, MacGyver, Star Wars the Empire Strikes Back in 1980, Star Wars Return of the Jedi in 1983, and also Red Dawn. I miss those days, thanks for sharing this video.
I LOVED Knight Rider too! I begged my parents to buy a black Trans-Am, just like KITT. They bought a Mercedes 450 SL instead. I was so unhappy about that!
I still use rotary phones, have a big TV antenna, I am thankful smoking has become less common. Stopped drinking milk in 1988. Gas was 85 cents when I started driving. What I really miss was the phone book where you could look up people's numbers.
Phone books were great for prank drunk dialing. I never did that though lol. I also used to read dictionaries when really bored. Lots of interesting words.
No, some did and I love the 80s but I had my fair share of bad memories too. I encountered bad people and bullies like we all do now. But it was all in person unlike how it is also online now too.
I don't know if it's more they go looking for trouble or they just happen to find it because of being triggered by something someone else said. This technology is a problem in that regards but ironically it's also the solution since you can always find something to either confirm or debunk almost anything. The "do your own research" crowd are the ones least likey to take their own advice, since their research equates to some memes that someone else posted. Very few actually go looking to find out if it's true or not.
Worse thing was dodging the local Highschool Jocks. They hated Freaks and Punk Rockers. We had epic Pasture Parties that went on for 2 days. So much music coming out. Speed Metal and Hardcore punk rock!!🤘😵💫🤘
I remember going over to my uncle's house. He had all the up to date electronics. That big Pioneer stereo system with big speakers. Hah, I got him beat now. lol
I remember seeing Metallica in 83. They were so young and just getting started. Where did the years go? I was born in 66 . Miss the Saturday morning cartoons.
Yep! I remember smoking on airplanes as a teenager! I also had a smoking room in the hospital when I was 16! Now you can't even VAPE outside without people freaking out about it!
I have no doubt kids today have their own kind of fun, but life back in the 70's/80's was cool in it's own way. These videos help remind us how things were and even how much we were left to our own, which probably doesn't happen at all now.
My kids say I'm stuck in the 80's. I was very simple. We didn't need drugs or alcohol to kick it. All we needed was our music. I noticed when I meet other people from the 80's they are chill. And straight up. I miss those care free days. We were so awsome.
Yes! Now some wine coolers helped. Gotta admit, me and my buddies loved those things. But yes totally get your point. They were care free, to a certain extent. No where near as heavy and crude as things are today. Sometimes I just want to go back.
I do miss all the ads from the Sunday newspaper. Especially when I'm looking to buy something. Back then we had 10 or more stores selling similar items. Now we have like 3.
Aqua Net hairspray, Skin Brazer aftershave, Brut cologne.... stonedwash holy jeans... arcades still mall go to, cassete tapes, vcr's, microwave ovens, money for nothing and chicks for free we had it going on
Going to Blockbusters was a treat 😊 I remember when i was younger, we didnt have cable. Michael Jackson's Thriller video was a big event. So all the parents with kids that didnt have cable to watch certain shows, that everyone would talk about around the water cooler at work or school, we would go to the neighbors homes that had cable. We all had fun. Nostalgia
Except for losing my brother to suicide at the beginning of the decade, the 1980s was a pretty good time. Still in my 20s and always felt fearless about everything. Thanks for the good memories.
I recall smoking in a plane. They used to offer passengers little packs with a couple of cigarettes in them and a book of matches, too. Smoked in the hospital and theaters as well. Rather miss full service gas stations. Does anyone else remember bus tokens? Before bus passes they used to sell rolls of tokens to use on the bus.
Yeah and I remember when you could smoke in supermarkets too. My Dad worked for Nabisco back then and I would help him on the weekends and I would see cigarette butts on the floor all the time 🚬
It really is crazy to think about all of the places people used to smoke at. It hasn't been that way for a long time. The shift seemed to start moving in the mid to late 80s. Thank you for watching gulfgypsy!

I feel really lucky to have been a little kid in the 80s. It truly was the greatest possible decade to be alive in, and especially being a little kid thru
Hostess Ding Dongs were expensive, and when you saw a kid pull out that foil wrapped treat from his or her lunch box or bag, you thought that the kid was lucky. Remember Chocodiles? What about the soda in glass bottles that had thin insulation around the lower part of the bottle to keep it cold? Plastic soda bottles also had a base made of thicker plastic. Thank you for posting this. Take care.
Susie-Q’s were my favs. They don’t taste the same. Wrapping fruit roll ups on your finger 😂😂 I remember the bologna sandwiches with potato chips. Gosh I miss these days 😢

Born in 78, my childhood in the 80s was great. Saturday morning cartoons, cartoons after school starting at 3pm to 5pm. Rock music and pop music were the best.
Came along in 66, boy i remember the 70s and 80s. I joined the Army in 84, from drive in mivies,to long conversations on the telephone at night (getting a girls father to interrupt), the cars, TV shows, cartoons. Just a simpler time looking back i realize how much my children's generations have lost in regards to just simpler growing up. Like studying at the local library before walking home from school, that summer job. The military was different then also and i traveled all through panama and central america and the US and Egypt. No seat belts and yup you didn't have to worry much about popping a cold one on your way home. Great vide, great time's Cheers everyone 😊

Born in 1967. I experienced the 70's and 80's through the eyes of a child and eventually a teen. Both decades were so much better than what the poor kids have today! Getting up early in the morning to watch Saturday morning cartoons was the highlight of a kids day back then...days long gone but never forgotten!

Kids today miss good fun, even our cars were fun colors and our hair was crazy! It sad that today most cars are boring and sleek. We expressed ourselves loudly and a pack of 80s kids were heard way before we were seen, we were loud! We lived huge and summers for us were times of teen crushes and running around till it got dark. Miss those simple days! Holidays too were epic!

You forgot to mention that the aluminum foil on the rabbit ears antenna always worked better when you were touching it. Thus becoming part of the antenna. Then, if you were lucky you had a "kids" TV which was always an old portable black and white that usually had a fuzzy picture. I was born in 61 and can remember my parents complaining about gas being TWELVE CENTS a gallon! We spent all summer in that strange place called outside were we tried to kill ourselves on playground equipment that is now banned by the Geneva convention. Ahhh, the good old days!
You forgot about VCRs, VHS tapes, Cassette tapes, Record players, typewriters, Bulky apple computers with floppy discs, going to arcade centers to play video games, taking photos and developing them in a dark lab. We used to write paper letters with a pencil. Playing NES consoles with actual cartridges and also blowing into them, going to video rental stores like Blockbuster Video, Hollywood Video, Top Hat Video, Cougar Video rental. Also we had no Internet and we used to go to the library to check out books or read from World Books. Also you can no longer watch Disney Channel shows the way it used to be in the 1980s which usually aired but then many of the shows was no longer available. Also cars used to have peg knobs and window rollers and also cars used to have popup eye lights. Also we used to use cash and had to go to the mall and stores alot to get our shopping done, Pizza Hut and Kentucky Fried Chicken used to be a sit down restaurant. Also prices for food, drinks, clothes, movie theaters used to be much cheaper and affordable than it is now. Also the cartoons I used to watch usually was very detailed artwork when 2D animation used to dominate our pop culture like with Johnny Quest, GI Joe, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, He-man, Secret of Nimh, The Rescuers and many more, also we used to play with toys way more than today. Also the Weather Channel used to play all the time and had Jazz music you could listen to. But in Utah where I was born in there were strict laws about smoking and drinking alcohol in the 1980s and most people I lived with or saw never smoked or drank alcohol which was very rare to see, also I didn't hear or see as much profanity like I do now days. Also news used to be more local like KSL 5. Also you used to be able to call the Church of Jesus Christ the Mormon Church or Mormon Tabernacle Choir which is now frowned upon these days, and we had that awful 3 hour church block which has since changed to 2 hour church block, there also used to be home teaching which is now changed to Ministering. Also the awful alarm bells were in schools and in our Church of Jesus Christ building which terrified me which thankfully you don't hear much anymore. Also many of the LDS films from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s used to be available on VHS but most of them are lost media unless you can find it on youtube. I do vaguely remember my childhood in the 1980s but I was a little kid then, now I'm a grown man.
I had to click on this video as soon as I read the title I was born in 78 and I will absolutely say that the 80s even into the 90s was the last of the greatest times to grow up. So many things have changed in the last 40 years. I’m so glad that I grew up when I did.

1980 baby right here. Living in today's world with everything at the touch of our fingertips it's easy to forget how different life was for us back then. You forget that it was such a great time when you are so caught up in all of the technology we have. Isn't it funny we didn't have all the information readily available to us but we still have all the information we needed readily available for us.
Thank you for this throwback. I was born in the eighties and just watching how drastic things changed makes me want to relive those days over theses days with no hesitation. Despite any bad day I might've had I'll take it. You never realized how good you had it until you look back on how things were in which you considered as being normal compared to today's normal.
I had the biggest flashback when the little rose 🌹 soap’s popped up on the screen. I had the exact same ones, I can even smell them now. Although that smell didn’t last for long once they were left sitting out. Now that I think about it, they were quite useless. 😁 Thanks Rhett. ❤️Jodie 🇦🇺

Hitting the side of the TV was no longer needed after solid state components. People just continued to do it after the transitions in the 60s and 70s. I was the tubes going bad that hitting the side of the TV would fix temporarily.
Something you can't do anymore that I'm slightly guilty of is balancing the knob on the cable box to get the in between channels, like Playboy. Oh, and waiting for the Sears catalog to come so we can go through and make our wish list. Fun times.
my mother use to be a manager at radio shack. she would sometimes bring me to work with her. she would keep me busy in the store by helping her with inventory. so much fun
I’m 58 and even though my siblings all had chicken pox I never got them. My oldest daughter had a total of three spots when she had them, while my youngest had a horrible case on her chin, because she was teething and the drool made them worse. Her doctor had to give us medication to apply.

The culture itself though was of course way more open and real life oriented than today. So were the naughties when I grew up. Don't get me wrong I love 80s movies and a bunch of other stuff from that time since I was born in 83´ so I still perceived some of the Zeitgeist. The best time to grow up is when we are around 12 years old, no matter what decade it is. Someone who is born in 1998, wouldn't agree that the 80's was the best decade to grow up.

Yes, I miss phone books, too! They were so easy to use. I wonder why they fell out of fashion.
Not in our public phone booths. The page I always seemed to need was torn from the book.

Farms went bankrupt in the 1980's.

I was born in 78 and I will absolutely say that the 80s even into the 90s was the last of the greatest times to grow up. So many things have changed in the last 40 years. I’m so glad that I grew up when I did.
Excellent born in 70.these were the best of times
Thank you for watching guysmiley515!
My mom loved painting ceramics. She did an awesome job and we were fascinated with her pieces.
Some people were really talented at that. Thank you for watching BlueBelle-711!
The Sunday Fort Worth star telegram newspaper was like 5 inches thick with sales & coupons & yes , ding dongs DID taste better in the foil 😅 thanks so much !! Love it !! 👍✌️❤️
You're welcome and thank you for watching Lisa. I do remember how thick that paper used to be down there. There were a lot of stores back then.
Thanks Rhett. ❤️Jodie 🇦🇺
👋😁🇦🇺
You're welcome and thank you for watching Jodie. It's pretty amazing that some of these trends went all over and especially so before the days of the internet and all these home diy type shows became so big.
Hitting the side of the TV was no longer needed after solid state components. People just continued to do it after the transitions in the 60s and 70s. I was the tubes going bad that hitting the side of the TV would fix temporarily.
Thank you for watching and giving us a little more information 7axis7!
Something you can't do anymore that I'm slightly guilty of is balancing the knob on the cable box to get the in between channels, like Playboy. Oh, and waiting for the Sears catalog to come so we can go through and make our wish list. Fun times.
🤣
Born in 76. 80s were the best time to grow up in. Hands down. I know about.
Born in 62 and yeah, I wore Bell Bottoms for a bit.
Yes, because that's all you know.
If you grew up in the 50's too, you might say that that was better than the 70's.
❤ born in 1977! I'm with you!
@@petaunotthoughtsintime Born in 59,i acually wore them dorky stacked heels to high school, lmao.

Thanks for watching arottie4097!
Chicken Pox parties! I went to a few but either never contracted it or I had an undetectable amount. My mom tried so hard to expose me 😂
I’m 58 and even though my siblings all had chicken pox I never got them. My oldest daughter had a total of three spots when she had them, while my youngest had a horrible case on her chin, because she was teething and the drool made them worse. Her doctor had to give us medication to apply.
I almost forgot about this. I remember my parents dropping me off with other kids that were all sick with the pox and me asking why. lol.
I gonna be 50 in a couple of weeks, and how do I NOT remember this?
