I lived in affordable housing and it helped my family tremendously. We couldn’t find another home to rent within our budget because our landlord sold the house blah blah. But we lived at affordable housing for a year just to bring us back up on our feet. The rents cheaper and the community was gated, house inspections every month (for drugs and stuff) there were also addiction help and trauma counselors. Safe for the kids to run around. Not dangerous, not the projects
Stephanie looks so surprised when Jk starts talking about poor living conditions. So it's safe to say that she never grew up without her family hitting any financial hitches
Stephanie is naive, skanks pop kids out for handouts. Her immigrant linerage progressed well into capitalist America, only a low IQ poor bastard would want their child to experience financial hardship.
I wanna get rid of some common misconceptions. Affordable housing is different from social housing/subsidized housing. Social housing often comes with the problems that people typically associate with ghettos and projects. Affordable housing is meant to broaden the range of incomes in a neighborhood, meaning units costing around 30% less of that market housing of that area. So in this case it's essentially rich people not wanting to diversify their community and being elitist. AFFORDABLE HOUSING DOES NOT EQUAL PROJECTS or that its a community of poor people. Sometimes its due to property costs rising to high that the regular person cannot afford market housing so affordable housing is designed to try to give people the opportunity to own a house. There's often regulations in zoning now that architects HAVE to include usually up to `10% affordable housing in new buildings. At least that''s how it is in Canada.
Yeah, this is pretty ignorant on them. Affordable housing means they still look at your income level and match you up. They start at $30,000 and up. So it's still lower middle class that gets it. Not some ghetto housing project on welfare popping babies for checks.
James Ng If they can afford the high market area then why not let them have it? It’s Florida, there’s a ton of land. It isn’t like New York where they’re choked out for land unless you want to pay $2k for a square foot. If wanting to protect the house you’ve invested potentially hundreds of thousands in is “elitist” then I don’t think elitism is so bad. Everyone only thinks about poor people and those who can’t seem to care for themselves, but how is taking away from those who were responsible and intelligent with their money for years fair?
Yeah thats not how it is in America. Almost everywhere where affordable housing is built the property values around it drop. A lot of people have loans and if your amount owed is less than the house you own, well the 2008 housing crisis was the lesson.

At 7:30 what Joe was talking about is literally what they try to do with afforable housing. Take upper lower class citizens and help them move into a middle class neighborhood.
Nah its usually synonymous with ghetto. You can't do big developments of affordable/ low income housing. It's a breeding ground for shit to happen. It sucks most of the people living there though just want to get a leg up in society and shitty come into the neighborhood and fuck it up
@Poco Rodriguez it's not communism. Its just cheaper housing. Communism would be free housing for everyone except no one could decide where they lived and everyone would have the same sucky house.
@Karrma aren't higher income the ones doing prescription drugs? Define your irresponsible behavior. These behaviors will be found in all in about the same rate just different effects. It's similar to how minorities are disproportionately arrested for marijuana when rates of users per ethnic group are the same according to studies. It's like drunk driving or under the influence.
Aarin Mont We had a discussion about that in class. Like how some rich families are so distanced from each other because at least one of the parents, if not both are working those rich people jobs that take over your life like being a lawyer and all that, so expensive drugs become involved and so do mental illnesses. Like my family and I lived in a small ass house in a not so great area when I was younger, but we were tight as fuck. My cousins would be across the street, my godfather would come over from his job at the market a block away, and all my other family was a bus ride away, we were hella connected.

where I am there is a similar problem happening. in February they finished building small nice looking homes near existing houses and they are having problems with people stealing packages and even patio furniture and kid toys. some of these bigger houses have small businesses and their merchandise is getting stolen, it sucks. now with newer projects they are building large houses near highways, so its not a "walk-in" neighborhood.
In Virginia, they are trying to transition from affordable housing and section 8 to rapid re- housing programs. The Norfolk area is working towards building mixed income apartment complexes with the help of local non profits and non governmental agency like habitat for humanity and Virginia supportive housing. This is to prevent inter-generational poverty from return to those areas. In Roanoke V.A. some of the local college kids helped out building habitat homes. From what I remember those houses were really nice.
Habitat of Humanity is a global Organization that helps families with low income get a house for very cheap so they did what joe was suggesting about taking poor people and placing them in middle class homes😁
hahaha I know about this! I live in this town and I've been hearing so much about this. Naples Florida has been building so much new luxurious housing that the people that grew up here are being pushed out!
This is happening every were in Florida I left Broward county last year and came back to a different city there build little Million dollar gated communities every where on every piece of land my eye can see, soon Native Floridians will be priced right out of Florida
7:36 they do have that Joe its called section 8 lolol they give out vouchers to people. you see these low income people living in mini mansions in cencal because they have a family of 8 and qualify for a 4-6 bedroom home based on the income allowance they gave them for rent.
I'm not surprised that this happened in Florida. I've been here basically all my life and the way they built these communities right next to the affordable houses is unreal. I would say they have a weird amount of well off communities per affordable residency area. I know this has to be around the southern part of Florida too, that's mostly where it mostly occurs. 🤷🏾♂️
This is exactly like where I live. I live in a better part of the hood so when they built the houses they put a 10 ft wall blocking the projects and the street that connects the two areas is fenced off but now they are tearing down the projects
In my city, a doctor who grew up poor had the heart to buy an apartment complex in the medical center and near the medical school. He then converted them into government housing. He wanted to bring qualified peoples of lower means to the "better" area and near inspiration. Well, just like David said, since the apartments all around the area were full of medical and dental students, they were "nicer". When I first got married, I looked at one of those nearby apartments, they were super pricey, but very nice. But after having a coffee across the street and talking to the owner, she told me that those people climb the fences to the other apartments and rob people's cars, apartments, etc. all. the. time. Habitat for humanity isn't the project's/ghetto it's middle class getting houses for cheaper, you have to make a certain amount of money which is pretty high so they know you can make payments if you don't meet that requirement alone you don't qualify for a home and if you end up getting one and don't make a payment they take it away.
Isnt habitat for humanity different than the projects. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure they still pay for their houses and have to work on them during the build.

This has been happening for years isn't anything new
Habitat for humanity isn't the project's/ghetto it's middle class getting houses for cheaper, you have to make a certain amount of money which is pretty high so they know you can make payments if you don't meet that requirement alone you don't qualify for a home and if you end up getting one and don't make a payment they take it away.
Another big reason is probably the rich people not wanting their property value to go down.
*Reagan Intensifies* Mr. Gates.. Tear down this wall
How can you take a bus to a walk out?
Sheesh I’m sittin here in quartz hill “part of Palmdale” all butt hurt
Isnt habitat for humanity different than the projects. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure they still pay for their houses and have to work on them during the build.
