    I'm turning 31 this month, and I'm more involved in the game than ever :D Granted, I had to stop playing when 5Ds came out and last year I actually watched 5Ds subbed for the first time and fell in love with the series and the game all over again. What I like the most about the current era is the fact that you can play so many different Decks and have so many possibilities for Combos. At the moment I have around 15 or Decks complete and am now testing Lightsworn Fellgrand Deck with some Synchrons. And it's so much fun finding all those possible Combos. 10 years ago the game was a lot more restricteve in what you were able to do.

    I am 28 this year, been watching yugioh since it's birth and playing since i was 19 *as my parents are religious* each to there own. To play for a few years before synchro's were born is a thing i hold dear, but i think yugioh is no better or worse than when i started playing. Each format has it's challenges, highs and lows. I remember playing obelisk frogs in the lows of dragon ruler format, in which i consider the dark ages of the game. Each format other that that i found fun, because it challenged my skill of deck building, tech, side decking and making every card count. I've played competitive and casual all over the place and enjoyed both styles immensely. I look forward to the future and to something more powerful that pendulum. When the game gets hard i am forced to evolve and get better. I relish in the challengers than lay before me that i do not know of. Those that have fallen i shall play for and those that still are here i will play with. Yugioh is in my blood now and when i am unable to play anymore i will be very upset.

      Im 28 also, was playing when the game 1st got to the states. Took a couple breaks, like a couple years and came back. I like the fact there adding support for older archetypes, granted there doing it for bc locals are dying bc not everyone is going to play meta. I do say they game was better before konami started hitting decks just to make you buy new product, instead of just making it better.

    I feel as when things changed it didnt get so bad. I mean, the original series, then the stuff you could do with the GX series monster then synchro summoning from 5Ds, I thought were really well done. But the series that began with the XYZ stuff, plus the pendulum monsters, thats kinda where things began to fall off for me.
    I found it very hard to play the game because I felt people could use pull a card and could just trample you.
    But I still love the series, and I do love how the games can go online, like the PS4, PS3 and 3DS titles. It makes it fun to play with my friends who live in other states. Or what I enjoy doing with them, we boot up skype, turn the cams on and duel that way, its a blast really.

    Man, I grew up with it from the very beginning, and I have to say while the game may have not been necessarily better 10 years back, it certainly was funner. Duels went many a turn and there seemed to be more personality. So many duels I've seen now are lifeless shuffling back and forth with little communication and they last 3-4 turns. Robotic. That's not what fun TGC is all about. Give me old school Blue Eyes vs. Dark Magician duels any day.

    I think the problem with Yu Gi Oh today is the TKO factor. Back in the day you have a chance to fight back when someone summon a powerful monster. It could take up to 10 turns or more back then you are more involve to the game. Now days with TKO the game could be over in simply 2 turns which make Yu Gi Oh pretty boring to me if you ask.

    The main thing I don't like about it now is that Konami uses the banlist to force set rotation instead of making a healthy meta. Nekroz format after the Djinn was banned had around 10+ different viable decks. Then the November banlist came out deliberately forcing out most of those decks.

    Interesting video for this time especially, since there are tons of others UA-camrs posting about the game dying. I would say the evolution of the game as a whole has been ok, but some specific cards just ruin the entire game. The game itself isn't that bad, but they need a better ban list system and better card designs.

      Like for example, Monarchs aren't THAT obnoxious, but the fact that they have a searchable Soul Exchange, where you can take your opponent's monster for tribute fodder, even on their turn and summon shit. All the obnoxious stuff monarchs do wouldn't be half as broken if they weren't taking your monster for free in the process :p

    Even though I like all the different summoning mechanics, I do miss the old days when you could just throw a couple of your favorite cards together and come up with unique decks. I can't believe its been eight years since the start of 5ds. Ive always loved the synchron archetype and the 5ds anime. Do you think we will ever get speed world/speed world 2 and the speed spells as real cards?

  • @xShadzHD

    I agree 5DS was the best anime for me also. However i would say the game has not gotten worse or better, despite it changing although i do not like the current format that much im sure future formats will be more enjoyable.

    I've been dueling/watching Yu-Gi-Oh since it hit the Australian shores, I've been an avid fan since then and an on-and-off collector (cause life). I didn't really like the Synchron era of the game, but that's because I didn't want to modify my deck just to adapt to the new summoning type. Now that I look back, it was a stupid move on my behalf because Sychro-Monsters are pretty BA and the artwork is freakin' awesome. I still don't use Synchrons because it takes away from my build (having to add Tuners that don't mesh with my playstyle) but I respect them much more than I did when they first got released.
    Fast forward to Exceed-Summons and my true love of dueling came back, I didn't need to modify my deck too much, and in-actual-fact the mods that I did do, improved it almost 200%. It's not meta, but it's highly consistent even running a 50 card deck (trollers/haters/elitists come at me! :P), I'm still getting used to side-decking because I've never needed it before thanks to my deck choice.
    Fast forward further to the current addition of Pendulums, again I like them but still don't go with my deck (as far as I can see).
    The game has improved, but the people playing it overall have become almost unbearable at tournaments because it's Meta or equivalent rogue-decks or nothing in their eyes. Which puts a massive dark cloud over the game for me. Only made worse by people not wanting to watch prolonged matches (15 minutes or above for a single match rather than a 15-minute duel; Stewdog being one of the more notable ones for me because he starts complaining at 10 minutes) that are IMO much better, because, it takes a lot of skill to get around another player's strategy.
    Long story short;
    - 15 years of Yu-Gi-Oh TCG - game has improved massively
    - 15 years of Yu-Gi-Oh TCG - game community has gotten worse.

    I know people are going to hate on me for this but the arc v era is one of the best eras I have played. Who would of thought that our meta would have had a fusion deck, Ritual deck, a tribute pendulum deck and a xyz deck. Soon there will be decks that use all forms of summoning such as metalfoes, ABCs, DDDs and Blue Eyes which would be hella fun to play around with BUT I miss the days where archetypes were not dominant and meta was loads of cookie cutter beat down and control decks. In conclusion I think yugioh has gotten better.

      also i love the arvc v formats.the arc v anime is amazing and in my opinion is tied with 5ds for the best yugioh anime.or at least the second best.here is my list
      1.arc v and 5ds i can't choice
      2.gx
      3.duel monsters
      4.zexal yuma was terrible duelist.he was also a cry baby and a terrible duelist for most of the series.by the end he was pretty good but for the most art he sucked.all of his friends were terrible.they were also annoying and i am glad when most of them die.cathy,yuma,bronk,tori,flip,caswell,spearrow kid,and escpailly annie kaboom were annoying.the good character in my opinion are kite,shark,trey,quantro and quinten,dextra,nistro,vextris he was my favorite second villain and he is defiantly on my top five best villians list in yugioh.all of the barbians especially vector.he is my favorite yugioh villain,rio i wish he had a little bit more development.

    The reason i find the old yugioh better like up to gx and some of the synchro and xyz was because there was limits and big costs to the game to limit there effects. And as time goes on there is just less and less of that in yugioh and when there is a cost it does more good than bad because there archetypes needs to be destroyed or some along those lines to activate there effects to search or destroy some cards.

    My favorite format was the one after the Dragon Ruler format. After the butchering of both Rulers and Spellbooks, I liked seeing a lot of old decks being at least playable. I just really enjoyed the fact that the decks were all at least even (besides Mermail, that was pretty dominant if I remember right).
    But then, Duelist Alliance attacked...

    well I can't offer proof that the game has gotten better, what I can offer is my opinion and I believe the game has gotten better over the years, large in part to things like legacy support to some of the games most ICONIC monsters and of course MY OWN OPINION because of Spellbooks, oh and most the anime cards finally coming out thanks no small part to Dragons of Legend and the Duelist Packs and so on; those kinds of easter eggs and nods have kept me going strong in this game

  • @ericgropuis
    @ericgropuis 8 років тому +1

    Personally I believe the game has gotten better, but there are things bad about the game. I'm not really old but I have been playing since near the end of the original Yugioh era right when GX started. The game was very slow back then and decks weren't that diverse until sychros came along and reved the game up. The game became faster and we got a cool new type of monster, that being Synchro monsters. After that the game became even faster with a better summoning mechanic, XYZ summoning which was simpler than Synchro summon so it was easier to understand. Decks were able to be able to do all kinds of crazy stuff and I like doing crazy stuff. Now we are in the Arc-V Era which introduced pendulums, which aren't as broken as people think they are. I like the new edition because pendulums and the lastest cards created some of the more creative decks and allow for alot of creativity, for example I made a Slifer Deck which can easily get Slifer out and get me a bunch of cards because of normal pendulums. I like the game but were it really hurts is in the meta game mentality, which is you play only the meta and bash anything that isn't your deck which really hurts the game as a whole because it can drive alot of people away from the game. But if you don't like he current game I'm sure you can just play older formats with your friends to have a good ol nostalgia trip. I also like to say that the card art, lore and the things the cards are based off of are cooler now, for example we have an Archtype based on a mix of the Wizard of Oz and Star Wars, and who doesn't like those things (expect for the people who get OTKed by Kozmo) we also have an Archtype based off of creatures in the book Dante's Inferno which is a very good book and the art on the cards is amazing.

    i play yugioh sinds the beginning and now there is more interaction and more thinking involved it changed from a children's card game into a more complicated and strategic game wich i like, if i remember the old days it was like summon a monster set S/T go, summon a bigger monster smash the other one go... if i look back like that it would be boring to get that sort of game back. I we play like that right now we say 'I Bricked'.

    The game has gotten a little better in some aspects we get reprints a lot faster now which can be bad or good depending on if you're a vendor. getting a holo in every pack is cool too and changing the ratios was also a welcome change makes it a little harder to lose money when buying products. The thing I think is bad for the game is how they've been releasing the ban list lately no one besides them knows when its coming and that sucks i wish they would go back to set dates on it like they know what cards are coming out and what's been topping doesn't take a genius to see maybe B.A Kozmo and Monarchs should take a hit. oh and the coverage for their events is also trash they don't announce it they don't provide deck list or anything they could really learn from the Pokemon TCG they have awesome coverage

  • @Weareonenation303

    In terms of deck building, archetypes and stupid shenanigans then yes, YGO has obviously naturally improved a freaking ton ever since it's debut. My main complaint is an extremely common one mentioned by the player community: YGO is currently way too fast. Most games are laughably short with all the shenanigans players can pull of their butthole these days.
    IMO the game has generally gotten worse. Despite more natural variety as more cards come out into the game, there are some formats that you get absolutely curve stopped if you don't play the top tier shit that everyone is using. That throws variety into the window.
    I want three things to happen (Which probably will never happen anytime soon:)
    - Slower format
    - More deck builds have a chance to compete with one another in higher level tournaments. Not just the current 3-4 meta decks.
    - Konami reducing the amount of subpar or useless support cards for archetypes they make. I'm not asking for OMG AMAZING BROKEN ASS CARDS. Decent usable support cards are perfectly fine. It's impressive that about 90-95% of all the cards Konami has printed are either obsolete, subpar or so underwhelming that makes you think what Konami was thinking. Some cards are so terrible that they are literally a waste of printing cardboard and ink.

    I think the game is fine as it is. I prefer faster gameplay and the current meta is fast enough. I also think Konami should be more involved in the game by promoting different gameplay opportunities for new and experienced players as well as updating the banlist on a regular basis to show they are actively seeking more balanced gameplay.
    Instead, they seldom promote their products outside their website and never give an inclination as to when the banlist will be updated. Maybe they should give control to someone who plays and enjoys the game rather than some clueless business executive.

      Why? Aren't pendulums super annoying. Old playmats are without pendulumzones (useless) and you can always bring them back. Makes cards like twin twister and mst necessary, so you can destroy scales. I go with Galactic God. It was better 10 years ago... Next we get Trapspellcards (half trap and half spell) or what?

    There's only two things about Yugioh, currently, that I don't like the first being all players can have a field spell. I think that in essences having two possible removes why field spells were a thing to begin with.They were a double edged sword . They could offer both buffs and debuffs to all players so balancing was needed unlike now cause why balance if all players can one? Secondly Pendulums and there nonsense, meaning that its basically like bang! Five badass monsters to the field with little effort. I here people don't like Syncros and Xyzs but at least they feel balanced unlike like Pendulums which just feel like something a kid cooked up so he could be all powerful against his group of friends.

    it has gotten better when xyz came because it looks like it has come from a different world, and seeing xyz duelist duel other type's of duelist in the time xyz are new makes the game cooler and better for all then pendulums came and are OP. then a new type of xyz came because it was a pendulum xyz and decks that power other extra decks are made it show that pendulums are booster. so what I'm trying to say is that yu-gi-oh is better to people who think it gotten better.

  • @TheGodofweak
    @TheGodofweak 8 років тому

    Honestly, as someone who's been around playing this since the beginning- Yu-gi-oh has changed for the better.
    *Kinda*
    The game 10 years ago, was very simple, it had nothing going for it against Magic and it did need to pick up speed, many decks were easily melded together with samey-engines so you didn't have a ton of diversity.
    Time has let this game grow, its finally a game that stands out. Sure, we have formats that are too fast and furious and the community can become toxic with hate for the game that they waste time on anyway -but that doesn't mean it was better in the beginning/past.
    10 years ago, Invasion of chaos came out. That set set was a true shit show, the first set to show how devastating a power creep can be. But Konami has gotten better. Pendulums are what? 2 years old now and we've had 3 top tier decks come from them? Thats new. I seem to recall synchro's, and xyz's dominating immediately, and consistently but now they're more concerned with pumping out legacy support thats actually good and making unique fun decks.
    Ok, so it is insanely faster than "the ol' days". But what made the yugioh in the old days so good?
    uhm... Yeah I don't really remember either. But I'm also someone who never liked the shows, so maybe thats a factor.
    For me, I like the game a ton right now. There are so many more cool and unique things and interactions you get from modern yugioh that early yugioh never even conceived of. We went from having "Fun" with Goat Control to complaining about a time in yugioh when Synchro, xyz, fusion, and pendulums can all have great success in the game.

    dueliest alliance killed yugioh in my opinion the game was so much fun to play in, theor was alot of diversity and like u said galactic god u could take any deck with u to a ycs and win the event and the game was really budget friendly but when dueliest alliance came out that's when yugioh went down the cliff short printing cards everyone needed making cards everyone needed secret rares, not giving a fuck about their player base using the banlist for the wrong reasons and etc

  • @KuroSjRocker
    @KuroSjRocker 8 років тому

    Personally, I think Yugioh stays as good as it was, it's fun to play, it keeps it's essences, changes have been made, but nothing stay pqstrong for years without any changes and everithing changes in this world.
    The only thing I think Konami should do about Yugioh, is to make the game more balanced and accessible for everyone, and I'm not talkinv about the card making, but the banlist. When you make a deck, you don't only put your money on it, but your spirit and then, Konami kills your deck by restricting an essencial card of your deck, you feel like your spirit has been broken and your way to play is not the same. They should not make money on the banlist but making good cards that make the public wants to buy it and make another deck.

      @MrGshinobi 8 років тому

      M60 PR0123 Very fun and balanced despite the popuiar casual opinion that they're"broken", i wish people took the time to understand something before they bash it, most of the decks i play right now are pendulum decks, they're THAT fun.

    • @marshallaffleck6229
      @marshallaffleck6229 8 років тому

      I'm an old school player I got back just now after leaving after the release of synchros about 2010 and I joined a tournament with my old school burn deck, I won 3/12 games simply because I had no way of stopping pendulum summons because in my opinion they were pretty broken except when banished , other wise you're fucked

    • @MrGshinobi
      @MrGshinobi 8 років тому

      M60 PR0123 It's pretty easy to disrupt the scales, besides the only pendulum deck that has easy access to all of their scales fast is pendulum magicians and even that deck is just bareeeeely rogue, really it's all about their scales and not letting them pendulum summon at all with trap cards and the like, they're easy to play around but they're strong because they can make big plays just like most other decks out there.

    I disagree the game has gotten better the last 10 years except from some questionable design choices here and there. I mainly say this because the amount of options for deck building and strategy have gone up quite a bit.
