RIP John. As we get older we tend to go back more than forward. I remember John’s fishing tv and was smitten. The enthusiasm he showed was immense. Wherever the next place we get to, may there be fishing and return.
strong flow ! I Never saw a slower flow on a salmon river . As for martin , he,s just a well meaning kid who doesn't understand why these areas are still in such beauty . Its the fishermen that keep the places nice martin , your having a go at the people that have kept places nice , rather than industry whom have devoid systems of all life
Its only people that appreciate and treasure the environment that care for it martin . The rest are full of the proverbial like yourself . What have you done towards natures wellbeing ? check yourself
I remember rushing home on a Sunday to catch the latest episode of go fishing on channel 4 as a youngster, about 9 or 10 yrs old. Absolute legend. Showed us fish from all over the UK and the world. Did abit of everything and always made a great show that you were gutted when it ended and you had to wait another week for the next one. The guy was ahead of his time too for the uk, using baitcasters decades before they became fashionable .
brilliant fisherman very sadly missed but never forgotten, he brought fishing to the forefront and made it huge, Thank you John for all you did for us fishermen
Man I miss j.w the programmes that he could have produced today with the cameras they have now, the collabs with some of the greats and money that's in fishing these days to make it all possible, it's such a shame r.i.p 🙏
He was a true legend of his time!!! It always strikes me how light the tackle is that the older fishermen used in the past!! My grandfather was a great all round fisherman like John here and I don't think I ever saw him use more than 8lb line in freshwater weather it was for pike ,carp or salmon!!! Amazing really but they didn't have the state of the art gear we have now but they were true masters of the sport they really was!! Probably a golden era of fishing really, they had some quite bad chemicals that leaches into the water back then but it seems that they had a lot more water flowing through unlike today were so very much water is taken from the river all the way up and down the whole system which obviously means any little pollution makes a huge difference sadly!! It's shocking that we have banned so many toxic chemicals and pollution but there's less fish now than then!! It really does not make sense in this day and age but it's the amount of people living now I think. We take so much water and modern farming methods on top along with sewage treatment plants with there overflows that just lately have been allowed to dump their overflow into the Rivers is really pushing our fish ,wildlife and fisheries/rivers to breaking point! I never thought I'd be someone who goes on about the environment but it's really getting bad and I'd hate to see it all disappear!!!
Wonderfully nostalgic to watch JW again 30-odd years on. The only downside is seeing the way the fish are handled - dry hands and kept out of the water far too long. At least it’s good to know that we’ve come a long way in this regard. Most anglers these days try minimal contact, use unhooking mats and keep the fish wet and keep them out of the water as short a time as possible. Nothing against John - he was a great ambassador.
I crewed a boat out of Dartmouth he fished on many years ago. Have to be honest, he was the most rudest and arrogant man I ever met. Many celebrities feel they are above other people. RIP but not missed I'm afraid.
Why did his cut down knee flap waders never catch on? You can’t walk easily far in full sized waders. Noticeably here he mentioned Otters with no senses of alarm or danger at all. Why? Because before their numbers were hugely bolstered to cause a huge imbalance in the predator/ prey balance there was no reason to fear their destruction of overall national fish stocks. Anglers don’t hate Otters per se, only after long term breed and release programmes, the building of Otter Holts and artificial increase of their numbers through human interference did they become a hugely destructive pest.
I used to fish the Waveney and it was noticeable how the Earsham otter farm had caused such an impact on the fish stocks. Used to have this conversation with John many times.
It’s in Southern England, called a “chalk steam” because of the extremely rich alkaline water caused by the sedimentary rock in the area. John fished largely catch and release for pleasure but Grayling from such clean water are as nice to eat as trout which live in the same unpolluted waters. Sadly John left the U.K. to retire in Thailand because such natural fishing has been destroyed in recent years by an over population of Otters purposely bred and released by “ naturalists” more concerned with Otter numbers than the fish and other wildlife they feed on. Sadly too because he passed away without being able to enjoy such U.K. fishing in his retirement. But he is a much loved angler and very skilled in working a flowing river.
Yeah their about. Not many people target them these days. We have a few rivers close to me that hold them but the game anglers hate them and most of the other freshwater guys fish the lower reaches for carp and bream.
I wish Germany would educate itself and quit making fishing against the law, at least not for the reasons they have. I want to take my son fishing for perch and other stuff like I did when I were a little kid with my dad

Watching him takes me back to my childhood! Man I miss this guy, what a legend 👏
It brings me so much joy to watch John Wilson fishing. I used to watch these programs over and over as a young mad keen angler. RIP.
A true gent and a legend. Such a shame John is no longer with us.
I don't hear any sobbing from the fish he damages in his pursuit of "sport"'

Apparently, off camera John Wilson was a rather grumpy, cantankerous, arrogant man. Enjoyable programs though.
@@martinthatsall1518 damages fish, don’t talk silly.
John was the reason why I fell back into angling, not a single wasted minute watching him.
The most influential and wonderful angler the world has ever seen. RIP John. We were blessed to be able to have you touch our lives.
Gone but never forgotten RIP John Wilson the legend lives on.

An inspirational legend, his enthusiasm and simple techniques altered and improved the way I fish.
John Wilson.
In my eyes John Wilson is God.... If it was John waiting for me at the pearly gates I would be a happy dead man. RIP John...

1hour of perfectly explained centerpin fishing! Damn, lucky me! Thx man! Where ever you are watching greyling now
It's an art the way he casts the rod.

It's tragic to see rivers that 20 years ago were full of fish totally dead.
one of UK ,s finest Angler.. the King of Fishing..SADLY MISSED +
I used to love watching John Wilson Matt Hayes and Rex Hunt on Saturday mornings on The Discovery Channel back in the early 90s
Remember how Discovery Home and Leisure used to show fishing all Christmas day 6am to 6pm? Happy days!

In 33y i never caught a single one.

Greetings from Russia! Is it in which country is such a beautiful fishing trip?
Southern England
UK, one of the very few places on earth with chalk streams
Specifically the River Test in Hampshire
It’s in Southern England, called a “chalk steam” because of the extremely rich alkaline water caused by the sedimentary rock in the area. John fished largely catch and release for pleasure but Grayling from such clean water are as nice to eat as trout which live in the same unpolluted waters.

Ukraine
39:00 just listen!😍😍😍😍😍😍
i used to tie size 22 spade end hooks by hand i bet most AMERICANS have never seen a hook smaller than about a size 4 UK hook
great to watch but his shot arrangement doesnt assist wallas casting
He will return after the battle of Armageddon, R.I.P. means Resurrection In Paradise, John 5:28,29. Alan Peck 🐎
Can you still catch that many grayling in the UK these days?
still a fair few on the chalk streams
Yeah their about. Not many people target them these days. We have a few rivers close to me that hold them but the game anglers hate them and most of the other freshwater guys fish the lower reaches for carp and bream.
@@porkchop7652 Here in my region in Germany, the grayling has to be released. They got rare...
@@tobrc hope they can make a comeback mate.
Come to Yorkshire..there are lots
one fish i have never caught is the grayling and i am 63 with health problems so it wont be happening
that first fish he caught on this light tackle an AMERICAN WOULD HAVE used about 10lb line and a British size 2 HOOK LOL
How things change, you wouldn’t get away with doing that now, not wetting his hands before handling the fish !!!
I wish Germany would educate itself and quit making fishing against the law, at least not for the reasons they have. I want to take my son fishing for perch and other stuff like I did when I were a little kid with my dad
Put that rode in crooks pond 😂😂😂
That flask was empty, what a faker 😂
He never struck me as a pisshead to be fair😂
DIDNT REALISE HE HAD PASSED AWAY 🤷DEFINITELY ONE OF THE MOST CLUMSIEST FISHERMAN LOL 😂 BROKE MANY A FISHING 🎣 ROD IN HIS PROGRAMS..
