    With the nice weather I am enjoying riding my 2017 Kawasaki x300 Versys and my 2013 KTM Duke 690 Supermoto. Today I rode both of them back to back and delighted in discovering the attributes of each of these wonderful motorcycles. Here is my evaluation: My Kawasaki seems like a Rolls Royce compared to the KTM Duke. It's engine is much smoother and much more quiet. The clutch throw is much softer but has a longer pull. I like the gear shifting on the KTM best. It is a bit clunky but has a short positive throw and more precise clicking into gear. The clutch is fast and positive. The KTM has way more power and acceleration than my Kawasaki. But that is an unfair comparison considering that the Duke has more than twice the displacement. The guages and features are far nicer on the Kawasaki. I like the gear position indicator and the fuel gauge that Kawasaki offers. The KTM has a far more comfortable seat compared to the Kawasaki. However, the seating position of the Kawasaki is much nicer than the KTM. Both are fairly tall motorcycles. I recently lowered my Kawasaki 1-1/2" which I highly recommend if you are shorter than 6 feet tall. My Kawasaki feels better balanced than the KTM, but only slightly. The KTM has so much torgue, so less down shifting is required. Just twist the throttle and go in any gear. The Kawasaki has a very high revving engine. It takes 7,500 rpm to cruise 65 mph. The KTM rarely needs more than 4,000 rpm. The Kawasaki engine internals sound smooth as silk. The KTM sounds like it is grinding bolts internally. The KTM has a very jerkey low range, not very tractable. The Kawasaki is the opposite. Very smooth. Both motorcycles shine in the twisties and curves. Both motorcycles are very flickable. The KTM may have a slight edge in handling but overall I prefer the ride of the Kawasaki. My final impression is that both motorcycles are wonderful, the Duke for it's torque and power, the Kawasaki for it's dual sport smoothness. If I could own just one or the other I would keep the Kawasaki for it's Rolls Royce build quality, smoothness, handling and quietness.

    After 2 years of ownership, still love it. This is one sweet motor, nice flickable bike, nothing better on tight back roads. Not a good highway bike. I have 3 other bikes but this is always my first choice. When you get off of it after a ride, youre like Holy Crap!!!

      BigBenMotoVlogs was disappointed with vibrations, stand where the peg was obstructing full access and quite twitchy. Other than that was fine. But I don't think I'd buy.

    If you liked this one so much, I wonder how you like the 790. I just test drove one and a 690R, and I have to say - no contest - I'm getting the 790. It'so good.

    i am in betwween to buy the duke 690 or the mt07 for city use no chance to test drive here...which you recommend.

    • @BigBenMotoVlogsUK
      @BigBenMotoVlogsUK  6 років тому +1

      Very hard choice. The single on the duke is amazing, light, great fuel economy, thin and does feel a bit cramped. The mt07 is a great allrounder, good fuel economy again, very smooth engine even at low rpm and comfortable. Even though i adore the duke the mt07 would be my choice of city commutator

    • @ajmf-hy8qt

      Numbers are about equal. I would bet more on the yamaha reliability. I rode both. Smoother engine on the mt07. Fun factor and post ride grin: the ktm wins by a mile ahead, for me, no possible comparison.

      Sylvain Bélanger .... i found a grate deal.. for 900 dollars more than the mt07 i got the 2018 kawasaki z900 in black 👍

    At that price the track pack should be free, rain mode and traction control could be called safety features, and they want you to pay £248 extra for them!

    I think some manufacturers think people who buy their bikes don't plan to ride more than 50 miles radius around every fuel station in existence. Stupid fuel tank capacities.

    • @nickfry7705
      @nickfry7705 7 років тому +1

      Hi, small tank but I genuinely get 70-75mpg out of mine not going mad but not slow either, so range is around 200 mls. The worst the trip meter has eve shown up to now is 71MPG.

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket 7 років тому

      Have you calculated the actual fill vs. miles ridden at the pump to see if that display is accurate?

    • @nickfry7705
      @nickfry7705 7 років тому

      Hi, fair point, I haven't though I have done 180 between fill ups a few times. I'm off on mini tour of Wales tomorrow for a few days (prob 600 miles ish) and will try to do manual calc and let you know.

    • @nickfry7705
      @nickfry7705 7 років тому +1

      Hi, just back from 850 mile ride round Wales and Bath. Did proper fuel test and it genuinely did just over 65mpg compared to the electronic display which was a a bit optimistic at 76mpg. However with tank capacity of just over 3 gallons this still gives a range of 195 miles which is on a par with most bikes I've had before. Prob worth noting that about 98% of this mileage was in 3td, 4th and 5th gears and virtually nothing in top so could prob get a bit better on a motorway at moderate speed, then who wants to do that .

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket 7 років тому

      Well that's definitely a consideration. I've just got a Z900 and I know it probably won't do better than low 40's after I've gotten it all run in. 4.5 gallon tank probably still won't get the range of your 690.
