man its kinda easy to miss in the moment because they're both yelling over each other but Richie saying "where were you when we put your brother in the ground you selfish piece of shit" during his shouting match with Carmy always gets me. my boy had that one loaded for a while
The way they go for each other's throats because they know each other so well. "You wouldn't be able to pay for your kid", "at least I have a kid, you have nothing"
It's similar to the fridge scene in the pilot episode. Ritchie laying out taking care of Mikey, Donna, running The Beef, marriage falling apart while Carmy was M.I.A..
the thing that makes the chocolate banana scene particularly special is that not only did Richie remember that moment from 5 years ago, but it was from a conversation he overheard. Cicero was sharing that story with Tiff, not Richie. it showcases how much Richie pays attention to people, remembers details about them, and can utilize that to be an amazing host. thanks for an amazing series of reactions! I've looked forward to Sundays for weeks now and I'm so hyped for Season 3! 😃
Plus, the memory of chocolate bananas makes Cicero think of his dad, he said the smell takes him back to memories of getting chocolate bananas with his dad when he was alive.
@@SandSlash242They didn’t spell it out super well in the comment but I’m pretty sure they were trying to allude to the idea that the chocolate banana also works as a gesture from Richie that he sees Cicero as a father-figure and holds that kind of special place in his heart that Cicero holds when he thinks of his “fat fuq” father.
You have to remember this is Donna after Michael died. It seems the loss of her first born really affected her, and though she can't let go of her self destructive tendencies, she doesn't want to do any more damage. It's heartbreaking
I interpreted the Donna scene as Donna being fully aware of just how much damage she's done to her kids. When she says, "I don't know how to say sorry," it's not so much her refusing to take responsibility but rather her realizing that a simple "sorry" is nowhere near enough to fully repair the hurt she's inflicted. It's going to take a lot more than that, and it's very possible that it might cause at least one of the kids to regress. I can definitely see how all of that would be overwhelming for a neurotypical person, let alone Donna, who is clearly very emotionally fragile herself. But yes, this is still something she has to confront eventually, and I can't wait to see how that goes down in S3.
if you watch the therapist that specializes in toxic family dynamics (doctor ramani) she breaks down this scene, and it was quite eye opening. donna isn’t as innocent here as you might think.
It’s also devastating because Donna thinks Nat never told her about the baby because of this realization when in reality Natalie invited her this night to give her the news
Pete is the MVP this episode honestly. Every time I think bout his scene with Donna, and when he cries at the table afterwards because he's so proud of his wife and just wants everyone to be happy, God I just sob uncontrollably. Donna puts my emotional and mental health right back into childhood trauma territory, but I'm so glad Pete saw her. Boy is full of nothing but love, I'm so happy Nat has him. Everybody else in their family might not understand or appreciate Pete but he's exactly what Nat needs in her world of chaos.
The metaphors slap SOO hard this season: Carmy is stuck in the fridge and Donna is out in the cold, Carmy and Claire first encounter one another at the fridge section of the store earlier this season through a glass door only for him to break her heart from inside the locked walkin
@@nicholasstehl6375 oh when this first dropped I nerded out hard, up and down over little staging choices and dialogue elements; the fridge thing is just the most obvious one
As someone who just recently went to a tasting menu, tables swap silverware for every course. So tables go through a lot of silverware. Carmy did the math wrong for tables given their menu.
Most people think of Fishes as Jamie Lee Curtis’ tour de force that should’ve gotten her award attention. For me it’s the moment Pete spots her out the window and the their entire conversation outside. “I don’t deserve to see how good this is.”
This episode has masterful acting from beginning to end. All of the regulars give some of, if not their very best, performances, and all the guest stars are outstanding. Thank God S3 is only weeks away!
Underrated moment @9:40 when richie not only grabs him and leans in.. he makes eye contact and leans in again.. then one more time for good measure before responding. Its like every lean in was added reassurance to what he was about to say.. "dont be scared"
Richie absolutely deserved the credit for taking charge. Actually when syd asked Tina and Richie didn't take offense, that's the thing that showed the most growth. Old Richie wouldn't have understood the apprehension of letting someone who isn't kitchen staff handle something like that and he would've definitely referred back to the season 1 situation
Oh man… Carmy, trapped all alone in the freezer and locked out of his own success because he thinks he doesn’t deserve a shot at happiness and enjoyment… when literally everything happened because of him! None of them would have been able to thrive and triumph without him, and I seriously hope he knows just how special and important he is. The fact that he can’t enjoy it because he feels like he’s not supposed to, mirroring his relationship with Claire, breaks my heart. He deserves everything good in this world, and I just want him to get the therapy and help he rightfully deserves because I refuse to watch him go on like this. This has followed him his whole life and he’s literally like his mother. The parallels are actually insane, and everything was so intense. It’s all right there… literally and metaphorically. The way I want him to get out of that confined space (physically and mentally), just like the bear from the pilot in his dream sequence, is something I really want to see. Carmy doesn’t realize his full potential yet, and when he reaches those heights will be so satisfying and fulfilling to witness. However, I really do think that he is aware of that because that’s just who he is: A passionate, sensitive, and wounded bear, who will still lash out on you because he knows exactly what he’s doing, no matter what you throw at him, whether it be his trauma with his brother, or his upbringing with his mother. Speaking of Donna, that scene with her being left out in the cold (similar to Carmy’s state) as she talked to Pete was heartbreakingly beautiful. I couldn’t stop crying. Their choice of choosing the most polar opposite characters on the show for this moment is simply perfect. Loved this reaction so much, you guys, and I can’t wait to see your reactions for season 3 😭❤️
It's a brilliantly structured finale overall, and I really love that moment where Richie gives Cicero the chocolate banana. Jimmy mentioned this 5 years ago, and the two have hated each other for a pretty long time between these moments, and he still remembered that detail. Carmen was dead right- Richie is really good with people.
ALL THE FEELS!!! Richie my hero! Josh doing crack! Carmy actually mirrored his mom in this episode. Richie was right on so many levels. Can't wait for the new season. If Carmy doesn't recognize this he will self-destruct and alienate everyone like his mom did. Calvin and Eric were correct in being proud of Richie. It's the initiative that is the victory not the outcome. SOmetimes you can't control what happens but He decided to try and do what he can and THAT IS SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF. Too often we focus on outcome and forget that the success is really in trying in the first place.
Poor Pete man. You can tell all throughout that scene with Donna that he truly loves her despite her problems. I've already watched Season 3, and it was just as incredible to watch. Can't wait
The chocolate covered banana that Richie remembered about Uncle Jimmy telling them about all those years ago always gets me. Seeing his reaction to it at the table really hit and Oliver Platt’s performance said so much. Wonderful moment.
i've rewatched this episode a few times. but i've only just realized that the alarm beeping so frequently in the background reminds me of the alarm ringing in 2x6 with donna. it shows how similar carmy is to her in that moment -- chaotic, confrontational, and all over the place. the fact that the beeping stops once carmy is in the fridge + no longer "helping" in the kitchen is just the cherry on top of this sweet little narrative parallel.
I can’t believe they didn’t remember the Banana story, that shit killed me Also I assure you I’ve heard many a stories of chefs taking all sorts of vices in whatever small breaks they can get during rush
Pete is a genuinely good dude. The reason why everyone shits on him is he is just a nice dude who did grow up in a very loud, shouty family that spews insults. And they all hate that he's so nice.
They didn’t have forty tables they had about 20… in restaurants tables are usually labeled by the first number being the row and the second number being the table number so 41 would be the first table in the fourth row
This episode is such an amazing companion episode to "Review" and how much everyone has progressed when facing similar situations that they did in that episode. And how Carmy regressed, being triggered by imagining his former head chef.
Agreed, and it subverts the expectation of the “long take”: as soon as Carmy locks himself in the walkin, the take ends and the cuts show the attention to both Syd and Richy handling it
the universe told carmy he needed to Chill literally lmao richie truly has one of the most satisfying and believable arcs i've ever seen on tv. he drove me absolutely nuts last season but this season i just adore him and it grows even more in s3!

I’m so happy you guys reacted to this serie. I’m so frustrated that in my country they delayed the release till the 17th for some reason so I have to wait before I can see more of the reactions. It is such a well made show. The complex characters and their growth is so well done. The dialogue feels so natural and they don’t hold your hand the whole way trough. I’m so done with shows over explaining things in their dialogue thinking the audience is too stupid to follow along.
Carmy and his mom Donna need to be forced to go to therapy before they do even worse things to the ones they love. I truly believe Donna has combination of bipolar disorder and major depressive disorder. And if you look at how Carmy himself not only self sabotages and self destructs, he also clearly has mental health problems. I mean he hallucinated seeing the man who made his life a living hell because he’s blinded by stress and anxiety. I’m convinced that whatever mental health problems Donna has she has passed on to Michael and Carmen.
a very very very beautiful use of "Hope We Can Again" by Nine Inch Nails in this episode ❤ the music coordinator for this show deserves a pile of awards honestly.
Jamie Lee Curtis was so great in that scene with Pete. This is the best show currently being made, and every time I finish a season I'm immediately sad that I have to wait a year for the next one. This show very well may be perfect. The casting, camera work, writing... Everything is perfectly done.
I feel like if Donna came into the restaurant and saw what was on the menu, she would have seen that a lot of the dishes were inspired by her Christmas dishes (like the 7 fishes and cannolis). Maybe she would have realized that her hard work was appreciated and recognized, but instead she self-sabotaged (just like Carmen did with Claire) and didn’t allow herself amusement or enjoyment with her kids.
They ran out of forks because, like the fridge issue, Carmy said he gonna handle it, rejected others from handling it themselves, and didn't handle it. The complete opposite of how he handled The Michael cannoli..

I had such high hopes that maybe Pete was going to convince her to come inside because he’s like the one true good person in the show, but instead we got to see the guy break and I lost it. Pete’s now more on Natalie’s level. That’s crazy sad.
I am 3 episodes into season 3 and it's some of the most depressing television I have ever seen. Good television, but depressing and emotionally draining.
It was Carmen's phone someone probably cleared that up. He throws his phone after the voice message and then the messages and calls come in but he's too distracted to see it immediately

Donna had a great moment in season 3 with nat but idk there was just so much more that could’ve been done which I hope they do for season 4. Still interested to see what y’all think
This usually doesn't bother me, but this episode it felt like Eric spent half of it writing on his notepad. It doesn't feel like he missed anything, but I'm sure their attention is still divided between the scene and what they're writing. I don't think you need to write long sentences if you just need to be reminded of the talking points for the discussion.
@@mingoDcamara probably a Claire hater. Some people have this weird hate for her, I even saw some comments (on other channel) that blamed Claire for coming to the back to check Carmy - her freaking boyfriend if he is ok.
I don't know if writers or actress but Syd drives me crazy. Always pinned as the voice of reason, the smart one, the reliable one. But besides being impatient, refuses to take criticism or accountability, while demanding perfection from everyone else. Just look at the scene where she's telling Tina to refire but gets angry when Carmy tells her right after to refire herself. Or the fact everyone blames marcus for shouting early in the service when you can clearly hear him asking repeatedly for an "all day" on deserts and she's ignoring him. Or my favorite, the way she totally froze up when carmy got stuck and definitely would have been screwed had Richie not been there to bail out kitchen.
She's an amazing chatcter and the actress is fantastic! Marcus can clearly see she's stressed and brought up him asking her out again instead of just asking for the "all day" again right next to her. She was already more stressed by carmy leaving and not taking his place going back & forth, then screaming at her. And then carry being stuck in the freezer by his own self sabotage.
I love how you're itching and scratching for something to blame her for anything, even something of Carmy's own doing. You expect her to be a superwoman and take charge so easily and flawlessly as the most important aspect of service goes wrong, when the FREAKING HEAD CHEF couldn't manage something as simple as A PHONE CALL to fix a fridge!!!! A contact that was already provided that he didn't have to even seek out??? So f--king interesting. What? You need Sydney to be the ultimate mammy and magical n-gress ???? LMAO

I don't think you need to write long sentences if you just need to be reminded of the talking points for the discussion.
No love for pete
Pete is lovely
This is such an amazing episode. It is almost perfect but that Claire voicemail brings it down a whole letter grade.
Excited for season 3
lmfaoo, why does that bring it down?
@@mingoDcamara probably a Claire hater. Some people have this weird hate for her, I even saw some comments (on other channel) that blamed Claire for coming to the back to check Carmy - her freaking boyfriend if he is ok.
@@mingoDcamara I think it's a bit cheap. There's no need to underline the drama that just happened.
@@StephenN.Parker I think people don't like how her charcter was introduced.
@bethanychatman9531 This is the wildest cope and refusal of accountability I've ever seen. And i love the character and actress of Syd.
LMAO
claire is the worst thing that happened to this show
Amen
was Eric on coke or something this episode
