So today i was out magnet fishing with a few friends called Scott, mark and Steve and i was fishing their local area which was the rochdale canal in greater Manchester.
They have a UA-cam channel called Patriot magnets and here is the link so you can check out their channel / @patriotmagnets
We was finding alot of the usual things like bicycles, scaffolding, scrap bits of steel and a few safes, one of the safes was HUGE! and it took some clever thinking and brute strength to get the big safe out of the water.
Once the safe was out of the water we decided to cut open the safe to see if we could find anything that had been left inside by the criminals.

That's loads better quality 👌
Thanks for letting me know
I love your videos im starting magnet fishing as a new hobby it sounds fun
@@theladsco7616 awesome mate good luck and hope you have some good finds
What do you do with all the scrap weight it in for cash
It's definitely a CRANK shaft, not a cam shaft.
Cheers
@@drasticg An axle.
8:05 that bmx bike thooo
Stealth Rt it’s just a bmx
I so enjoy watching and seeing what your find is. It is also good for cleaning out the canals. Good luck hope you all find a fortune!
Thank you for taking the time to improve the video and repost it for us....
Its least i can do mate i hate doing things wrong
12:15 - it’s a crankshaft from an engine. The pistons connect to it and it sits in the bottom of the engine.
Cheers pal i know how it operates but my mind went blank when i come to name it lol
I appreciate y'all cleaning out the waterways but the idiots that litter piss me off. GREETINGS FROM MISSISSIPPI!
Wow..! Great video and find..thanks for sharing..Congrats bro.! Best regards from metal detector Indonesia
Thankyou, do you find much treasure in indonesia?
Thank you for cleaning up after your finds.
No problem its the least i can do
I found the first video so hard 2 watch because I couldn't hear so thanks for fixing it another great video 👍
Hi gary glad you like the re upload
The long shaft is the shaft that fits into a truck rear axle, you have to take them out sometimes to disconnect the rear wheels when towing them. It fits into the plant gears of the rear diff.
Thanms for letting me know
It’s good that you reply to everyone think it’s a first I’ve ever seen of a youtuber 🤗keep it up 🧲🧲🧲🧲🧲🧲
Wow really, i reply to all comments and its least i can do
That’s why you will keep loyal followers fame goes to ppls heads then they forget it’s the ppl watching them that got them there respect to you for looking after your team of fans chatting to fans is good always 😬👍top bloke I’m new but have a keen interest already thanks for the chance to chat to you
@@danieldickson9096 thanks daniel appreciate the feedback and letting me know
Excellent bro, looking forward to the next outing 👍🇬🇧
Cheers pal me to
“Why would someone throw this away?” Because it’s either stolen or rubbish 99% of the time.
Thank you for cleaning the rivers xx
My pleasure
The shaft is a half shaft from a truck . It slides in and bolts to the rear hub
Cheers pal
also known as an axle
Thanks
Great video thanks for sharing Gareth. That whack on the knee on the knee though, OUCH!!!!....
Marks knee had a huge lump on it within minutes after i felt sorry for him
The first shafts is an axle shafts from a pickup and so is the crank shafts. They're probably from the same truck
Cheers pal
Not seen your videos for a bit, nice to see you back, keep safe bud
So much better quality audio Gareth I can actually hear what you n the guys are saying thanks regards Steve
Hi steve glad you like the updated one
That long metal piece you had found was one half of an axle shaft for the rear differential of a car, van or truck I’m gunna assume, the other smaller piece was indeed a crank shaft to a small probably inline 4 engine
I see you got the light,(lamp). That red bike doesn’t look to have been in the water very long. Good job bringing that safe up, talk about teamwork
Cheers psl
Looks like a cobblers shoe last, place the shoe on top upside down and mend the heel/sole etc
Thanks for letting me know
I thought it was a cobblers last too
the fabric is probably bags that held stuff.
You could attach a 2' long flat piece of metal to the magnet which will then be magnetized & cover more area at once
Cool idea and be worth testing out
Great job w the audio! Thank u for putting in the effort to make it better. 😁👍
Its the least i can do
Your 100% right on the grow light ballast 😂 also its a crank shaft not a cam shaft
Cheers pal
Great video! G you guys always find some great finds. They have some big magnets!
Monster magnets lol
the driveshafts are from a solid rear axle and the camshaft you found is actually a crank shaft
Cheers for the info mate
a crank shaft from a V-6. there is most likely a matching one near there
Drive shaft is a called a halfshaft.
@@drasticg what they said ☝️ it's one half of a lorrys rear diff ( prop shaft connects wheel to centre diff which connects to prop shaft that runs into gearbox)
@@stefselby cheers pal appreciate it
Enjoying the videos. Thinking of getting my own magnet soon. You would be better off getting a pair of polypropylene, wool or even fleece glove liners, unlike cotton they can still provide warmth when wet. Look up the term "cotton kills" (hikers' saying).
Thats for the advice
Thx Gareth ,alot easier to hear , what a good find
cheers peter and thanks for the feedback
No problem mate , I don't know how u keep going I find it to cold well done once again thx for the content
@@its_dannnn im just a stubborn northener lol
@@drasticg good on ya mate
@@its_dannnn ha ha cheers and enjoy rest of your day 😁
its a crankshaft thats what the pistons connect to a camshaft opens and closes the valves and is smaller and has ovals on it
Mystery item of the day looks like an old wall mounted lamp arm. The big end attached to the wall and the small end had the lamp on it
thanks for updating the audio
No problem mate i just want to make the best videos i can
The second piece of metal is a CRANK SHAFT, the pistons of the engine connect to this.
When he said camshaft I cringed so much
Ha ha
Its not a ballast for growing pot. Its a detonator for blowing up a bridge. Lol
That place needed a good cleaning! So was it you who pulled up the most finds?
Thanks G. Is that ice on the water? Later Rox
Hi rox it was an eve effort between all 4 of us to get the rubbish out and yes the water had ice on which made it a pain in the ackside to fish through
I'm pretty sure that half shaft is from an old ford transit axle... Quite often used as stakes for tethering horses by the side of the road :)
You guys are hard core I've cold water, cold steal, cold fingers, cold feet, runny noses but the main thing is your having cold fun later brocephus! 😎💨
Ha ha ha
Drastic get in touch with an architectural firm about those safes. If the safes are in decent condition many arch would be interested in using them on industrial styled homes...most likely planters. ( the patinas of rust is attractive in some designed projects) It may bring additional $$$$
thats an awesome idea mate
9:48 that is half of a real axle from a car. The grooves at the narrow end would fit in the differential.
cheers pal some suggest from a truck
Hi drasticg love your vids that was a good intro props
Thanks
9:47, its a half shaft, most likely from some sort of rear wheel drive van
Cheers for letting me know
No probz, keep up the good work!
That stand thing you found looks like a cobblers thing for fixing shoes
Cool
Magnetic UK, it’s called a last!
I always enjoy watching your videos
Cheers Aaron
The shaft is definitely an AXLE SHAFT.
Love your vids been here since 17k
Wow thats cool, been a long journey
Sound is a lot better .....and still interesting finds..
thanks for revisiting terry
Do you have to take all these things apart to get the scrap or does the scrappy take it as it is? Seems like a lot of cleaning
I take it all to the yard in my trailer
New audio is great thank you
Im glad you like the new audio
Where do you take all the scrap you pull out? To the tip or a scrap metal yard?
scrap yard
You should use a long piece of the scaffolding that you find and use it for leverage to use on your winch arm?. I used to use a tool to help with pulling the conveyor belt when it needed fixing, it was called a turfer I think and they have a steel cable they are easy to use for heavy lifting when you’re alone, respect from Huddersfield pal! Subscribed
Cheers for subscribing pal and ive used a terfer before but are expensive
miles better with this audio 👍🏻
Thanks pal
Merry Christmas from Montana.
Merry Christmas
Nice video and some nice finds taboot. Enjoyed my visit. H.D. My Friend
Thanks pal
Nice find big safe
The item found @ timestamp 10:51 Look like Boat Prop/Rudder Protector. I've seen them on Boats that operate on Rivers or Lower Water-ways where it is likely to hit rocks/timber. The item I have seen are Made of Steel or Chrome-Molly. Oldest type made from Wood, Then Wood with an Iron Frame, Then Iron only from the Late 1800's, Last were Steel starting in the 1920's.
Thankyou for the information
That strange mystery item looks like a last. Why do you not use polarised lenses to help see into the water?
I wear glasses, if i wore sun glasses id not see snything im blind
I just go a magnet. What’s the best rope to connect it to? Is cable a no no?
Climbing rope is the best
It is a solid rear drive axel
Thanks pal
wow the water iced on the canal... and we're having 30 degree celcius here
It sure is getting cold here now
The shafts looks like a propeller shaft of a boat
Prop shaft maybe from a Land-Rover Discovery, the horizontal disc being part of the hand brake system
Awesome video & finds bro!! 😀🖒
Thanks for the comment mate
Could your “ mystery item” be something a cobbler would use.
I think it may be mate
I was thinking something like a shoeshine step. But cobbler thing makes more sense. Very cool.
They're half shafts, they drive the rear axles of a heavy goods vehicle. and the other wonky thing is a crankshaft from an engine
Thanks steven
Flippin heck I have one of those red bikes. Good job I've still got mine and haven't chucked it in the river it was quite expensive set me back £180
Wow i better keep this then lol
@@drasticg yeh get yourself some complete wheels, chain, new brake cables ( I could go on 😂) you'd be sorted
I really enjoy your videos and I love your accent ( coming from someone with a southern accent).
Thanks
The wiggly bit is not a cam shaft but a crank shaft
I often wonder if anyone falls in?
Yes they do but thankfully its rare
2 rods and cranck shaft is off a 040 steam engine shunter
Love the videos!
Thanks samuel
A nice place to magnet fish
The area is full of crime but it looks a nice area
a lot better sound its blasting my speakers out lol
Hope its not to load 😭
@@drasticg its spot on gareth
@@garydavies4457 thanks again for letting me know mate
Question what if your magnet gets stuck on something so big you can't move in your magnet will not let go what do you do then
I either get other people to help me pull it off or i would use a winch
Shoe shine stand for mystery item?
Thanks thats wuite cool
Steve Brettell
That was my first thought. Or a stand for leather working and shoe making.
CRT should be paying you guys for shifting stuff they could cause serious damage to prop's a the like, once went over a sofa on the out skirts of Edinburgh, took me 3 hours to cut the springs off the prop and skeg.
I wish they would do but they would rather ban us
they got some serious power them patriotmagnets lot lol
Yes mate they sure have
Do you know how dangerus that is? trying to hand krank with such a thin wire, if it snaps you wont be quick enuf to react before serius injured or worse.Love from Sweden
Thanks for the advice
1:55 That! Is some really shoddy welding. Looks like stick with no where near enough amps. I might be wrong but as long as it sticks a couple of bits of metal together and works
Are there fish in those waterways?
A few yes
It’s not a camshaft😂 it’s where the big end goes onto.
At 9:40 I think that is a axle to a car or something
what type of rope do you use I just got my daughter a kit from amazon and the rope is thin
I use climbing rope mate ua-cam.com/video/q8OaJw6U_CQ/v-deo.html
Thanks sir
Rear axle half shaft. :)
Thanks
Rear differential axle shaft off a large truck 15k truck more then likely
A much better video, your nuts! too cold for me to go out splashing in the canal lol, I admire your stanima 'G' :)
Thanks david no weather will stop me lol
@@drasticg Except for - 10 degrees Celsius, your canals will be frozen = no magnet fishing for you Gazza.
Crankshaft from bottom of engine it was guys
It’s an axle shaft with the wheel hub on the end.
I was looking to see if someone commented this.
Crank shaft, not a cam shaft 👍🏻
Cheers pal
Axle and a crank shaft
Thanks
It was not a drive shaft of prop,it's a half shaft from an hgv
Thanks
@@drasticg no prob keep up the good work, great vids.
@@garethbrown5292 will do buddy
A lot better mate 👍
Thanks steve
Nice finds
Thankyou caroline
10:50 part of a park bench....
I think it might be a leg from an old flip top desk.
Thanks for letting me know mate
Axle shaft
12:00, its a crankshaft
More ashamed than when they opened the safe on titanic lol
9:40 it looks like a harf sharft from a rear axle of a truck
11:40 crankshaft
(sorry for very late message)
That is an axle from inside a differential
