I recently discovered that you can run the Tobii through the Opentrack software which provides much more customization. You can create response curves and even split axis' to adjust sensitivity in a single direction vs the other. It makes the Tobii even better in MSFS 2020 as the default adjustments are somewhat limited.
Awesome tool! Also, head tracking is almost a must for flying choppers, makes the landings almost easy! Can't wait to get mine working again! I've been flying without track ir for almost one year now... It's so true, you'll never wanna fly without it!
It would be really cool for these head trackers to work on consoles like Xbox and for games such as the Forza Horizon and Forza Motorsport games to support them.
Excellent demo. Answered every question I had. What would be great, is if the eye tracking didn't affect the camera, but could be used as a mouse pointer. So you could look around with your head, and look at a switch and it would highlight ready for a single button press on a gamepad, keyboard or mouse, whatever. One question that still remains though is how far forward can you lean? My eyes aren't great and my 1080p monitor makes numbers look too small so it would be great to lean in and read things better, then lean back and out the windows in one fluid movement.
This would be awesome in combination with a few of those newly fangled glasses-free 3d monitors that are about to be released, for an experience that's almost as good as VR :)
I was going to ask him about that game as well, thank you for suggesting it. It seems like a pretty cool game. It would be fun to see Squirrel, Pups and Somy play multiplayer in Ships at Sea. 👍
I would love to try, as I'm basically not using my TrackIR for an while as it is a bit cumbersome to put it on/off, but the price...ahhh the price...Maybe in the future.
Great video Squirrel. Looks super easy to set up. How does it cope if you scratch your face or have a drink? For ETS2 I use opentrack in combo with my webcam. If I do any of those things with that setup the camera goes berserk and needs a reset. How does tobii cope?
Just bought, stupid question, can you change the reset key location, like higher up or lower, or more to the right and lock that in as "reset". great vid
Great video paul i just recently got the v1flight stick which is awesome but find switching between camera views on keyborad is bit of a faf so having something like this will be super useful think be a potential purchase👀😍
Re necessity for TrackIR Pro clip being wired. I successfully mounted a USB power source to my wireless headset years ago that powered by TrackIR Pro powered LED emitter, ditching the need for having a wire from headset to pc. 🇦🇺
I have a question, you say the eye tracker can be moved from monitor to monitor and has to be calibrated for each monitor, well I have 3 monitors and only 2 mag mounts surely I don't have to blutack it to the other monitors to calibrate?
Squirrel, I just installed Tobii and it spawn in the back seat but I cannot figure out what reset parameter you press twice to get into the pilot seat.
I tried it and had high hopes. I never managed to get it to work reliably. I suspect it was a USB issue maybe related to my X570 motherboard which at the time seemed to have USB power issues. I forget actual details.
Mounting to the bottom of my TV is not an option. 68" away may be a bit far as well. Sorta like someone else did, I might could mount it to my sim rig some how. Just a little costly to "try" and hope it works. Otherwise, Squirrel's review answered all my other questions!
Thanks for the insight, Squirrel. Is it possible it mount the Tobii on the top of the monitor? I ask because my wheel base covers the bottom frame of my monitor and raising it would seem.. odd. Thanks again!
I have TrackIR and just use the standard TrackClip attached to the top of my headphones - I have a wire for the headphones, but none are needed for the head tracking. Am seeing so much misinformation about TrackIR in all these Tobii sponsored videos.
Paul, does Tobii Eye Tracker 5 cause any sort of headaches or eye strain? I ask because when I first got my TrackIR 4 back in 2008/2009 I used to get headaches and eye strain when I was using it. After a few sessions I soon got used to it and no I can use my TrackIR for hours without issue. Whilst its been a faithful tool, a decade and a half later it's starting to show its age and needs replacement. I was going to get another Track IR. Like you I didn't think the Tobii's kit did head tracking (the name sorta implies what it does, am I right?) but if it is just as capable I might give it a go, as the IR sensors and wires are certainly the one thing I do not like about TrackIR. Just curious if you had any physical side effects from using it?
I had one but it made my eyes itch and water after just a little while. I found others had that experience too in forum posts. Only 2 watt infrared, it's probably just the eye movements. But doesn't happen when I do camera face tracking.
Opentrack and a webcam with the neuralnet tracker selected gives you head tracking with just the cost of a cheap webcam! I will grant that eye tracking is a neat plus though!
Well, yeah..”Sponsored” “tutorial”. Are you confused? Great video though Squirell and shows it off better than a lot of other UA-cam videos have. Fair play 👏🏼
@@voodoosheep I love how people reply to comments without bothering to read the actual comment in first place. What part of, "well ... that was a long advert", tells you that I am not aware about the sponsorship? Do you understand the words adverts? sponsorship? Or are you just confused?
Be mindful of eye fatigue. Using an eye tracker for extended periods can strain your eyes more than conventional methods. Take breaks and adjust settings if you feel discomfort.
It is very expensive for what it does and if you want to use it fully you also need software like opentrack. 9/10 simmers have the eyes tracking turned off and also if they do some tutorials from the cockpit and they press knobs and buttons they turn it temporarily off.
Thank you very much for this presentation (advert). I followed the link and got one - yet to arrive. I have used Track IR up till now, but It does not work with The Hunter Call of The Wild, which is my favorite game right now.
I have one Tobii 5 but I barely use nowadays. None of head trackers are practical when you have to press too many buttons specially the tiny G1000 buttons and knobs, the smaller imprecision (which happens all the time) and you miss your inputs.
No one talks about the latency. You can clearly see it in the video. It's a complete deal-breaker for me. Also what frequency does it run on? Track-IR is 120Hz which is great. I can't imagine any face tracking software running at more than 30-60Hz.
237 euros on sale... That's a bit much for me unfortunately. I really need to sit down and try to get Opentrack working (on Linux), and then go through my box of old webcams to see which ones work best...
Trouble is, it has to sit at the bottom of your screen. This has the unwanted effect of picking up your hand movements and interprets it as head movements, especially in driving games. Wish I hadn't purchased it tbh.
The first three minutes tells me this'd never work for me 😂 I always slouch or tilt my head, or lean forward when I get really into something, so the eyetracker would never be able to keep up with me.
I’ve been using track ir for years, just started to consider Tobii, your video was right on time.
Been using this for over a year and a half and now can’t imagine using flight simulator without it.
When your monitor gets hot it melts those adhesive stickers. I have to order more now
Webcam + Beam Eye Tracker on Steam… works perfectly.
No it doesn't.

Very helpful video, appreciate you taking the time to go through this in such detail. My Tobil just arrived.
I mounted mine directly to my flight panel instead of my monitor. Works great. As you said, once you try it, no going back. Awesome bit of kit.
Just to let everyone know, if you have an older Tobii 4c, install the BETA driver and this will also give you the headtracking option
Awesome bit of kit!! Great for ATS!!!
I've been away from FS for about 10 yrs now but I feel I must get back into it. Lots of catching up to do 👍
I've been pondering on whether to invest in one of these for some time now and your review has me sold! Thanks Squirrel. :)

Tobii Eye and head tracker 5 is just awesome! I ditched my TrackIR last year and never looked back.

This is what has stopped me from buying it. Is it great? Absolutely. Can I do a lot more with that money elsewhere? Absolutely.
I’m right with you, I’ve wanted one for a while but I want my money more, still using my Track IR and it does the job.
50 quid off with the link in the description
Easy configuration is key. Gonna give this a try.

Anybody know how distance affects the Tobii? I sit about 10 feet away from my large screen TV which I use as a monitor on my PC.
Excellent review.
Great video mate. Have been thinking about something for playing EuroTruck and I will probably consider this.

How about the Tobii 5 accuracy on the edge of the screen with a 32.9 aspect ratio super ultra wide monitor?
How is it using mouse clicks or mouse scrolling while moving your head? Great video.
FWIW, there are 3rd party providers that make a wireless set for Track IR, have not tried one but the reviews I’ve seen are good.
Will this work with MSFS 2024?

yes.. i had eye damage too...
I heard that the latency is not as good as Track IR, just wondering if this is true as i am using Track IR, thanks for another great Video Squirrel

You should use this for frenbus.

Squirrel do supermarket simulator!
This is so much more easier to configure than TrackIR and you don't need to wear a hat.
i can not get this because it is not avaible in india.

Glad it worked for you. For me it was the worse purchase I had ever made for MSFS addons. Plus, it is way too expensive.
The fact you turn off eyetracking on an eyetracker should tell you something.
Bring som ats and euro truck sim back
Rather use VR.

I had a look at tobi. Saw the price and never looked again. £55 Delan clip for me.
Delan clip master race. Built and designed in the UK
got excited until I saw on their website it sold for £91.66. yikes.
This is better though, doesn't require to have a silly fork clipped to your headphones
Shame this channel is turning into a pure advertisement place.
Great vid, but $240? That's an absolute joke I'll just stick with my track IR. Once again I appreciate the vid squirrel.
To much messing about track ir all the way i own Tobii Eye 4c id not waste my money buying 5
