Man... Daisuke is the definition of theat Thanos meme: "Fine. I'll do it myself." He didn't found the fighting game he wanted to play, and ended creating a whole franchise for himself. Thank you a million times Daisuke.
It's the reason I was pulled into GG, by the time I found about GGXX I was a fan of about half the bands the game referenced. That and how it approached a story mode as a fighting game, which was innovative at the time.
I always thought that Daisuke Ishiwatari and Hirohiko Araki could be friends due to their love for western music and making a cool series to flex their playlists. Now I know another thing these two have in common: They *REALLY* mastered the art of not aging physically.
I met Daisuke by accident at EVO in 2019. The day before Strive's announcement. With venom translator help. I expressed my sincere gratitude for the series. He was so incredibly nice and joyful to meet me. A random fan In retrospect its funny my outfit was Nago's colors coincidentally. And he was announced next day. Perhaps he noticed I was the exact demographic he designed him for irl 🤣 1:1
Without even knowing such a genius behind the scenes I immediately fell in love with GG strive couple months ago… Despite the satisfying control, beautiful art and music, unique RC and wall break mechanics, some of the character designs are really innovating. Like Johnny, he’s a cowboy, a pirate, a gambler, and a samurai all at the same time NATURALLY.
I love the fucking genius he is. And I love your videos they are really good. I just enjoy them like a kid. GG is such a precious franchise to me and seeing the community filled with good and funny people like you makes me so happy. Hope you are doing great and keep doing as well.
Can we just appreciate both previous GG games AND Strive? Strive was my first GG game and it got me into fighting games, it helped me to understand everything much better. I'm on my way to play XRD too now, and I'm so happy to say i love all of this franchise in its entirety. Plus, this whole fucking saga is art concentrated so savor it while you can
Wow. I knew daisuke was the goat but i never knew he was this goated jesus. Thank you daisuke i love guilty gear its really changes my life. I love this community as well and thanks for this entertaining video about our number 1 chad .❤
for any strive-only players, please play the older games (mainly xrd and +r) as those games are so much more raw and unhindered by other designers than strive is.
Wallbreaks are not a staple of the franchise. IKs, RCs, and the metal aesthetic were what made GG standout. It used to be a very free-form and chaotic series that allowed for player expression, something severely lacking in Strive. As much as I dislike the current direction Daisuke and Katano have taken Guilty Gear in, I really do appreciate all the work the man and his team have put into the series over the years.
Gatlings/magic series are gone in favor of more linear/restrictive routes. Returning characters are missing a lot of their kit from previous games, with some even playing nothing like their older iterations. Hell, some characters still have legacy restrictions on them but lack the proper tools or means to make up for it. The movement is a lot slower and most of the balance revolves around moves being less negative instead of positive. Instant Kills were removed entirely. Wallsplat/break does the opposite of its intended purpose and is just a poorly implemented mechanic. I don't know how things are currently, but the high damage made the game extremely volatile. Outside of a few tracks the music is a huge step down. Also, the lobby system is pretty bad and ranked matchmaking is kind of busted. I did like the changes to the RC system and the create-a-combo trial feature, but outside of those two things, Strive feels extremely lacking when compared to Xrd and XX. This is all from the perspective of an oldhead however, so please don't let that discourage you from playing and enjoying the game.
I strive to one day be as creatively powerful as this man. This amount of drive is something that the world rarely sees anymore, and I can only dream to measure up to it.
I rarely ever comment on videos but this video was so well put together. I want to absorb so much Guilty Gear content and lore that I become Daisuke himself. Would love to see some video around character lore or even development and inspiration for each of them. Also coming from a fellow aussie here.
I never and repeat NEVER had a company that i say "ah is made by them,i buy it" but arc system oh god arc system made me change mu mind i fucking love their works even the crossover one like the persona games
Arcsys and Fromsoft are the two companies where you hear what they're selling and go 'YEP! HERE YA GO!' Just you've already put in the card info and have made the order.
I imagine you had to do some research for this video. It's great to know the history behing GG, the influences and inspirations, and the evolution of the series through the years
Man this story it's kind incomplete , I knew that Ishiwatari in beginning of the GG project he idealized a RPG game , then I don't remember why he changed to a fight game ... I don't remember where I saw this information , so is it thrue ? Since now thanks you're awesome man .. ✌🏾
I feel that BlazBlue is more complex than Guilty Gear, somehow. I really feel that Daisuke it's the type of friend that I want to have, and also one of the greatest in the videogame industry, I listen to Guilty Gear music very often lately, it's trully the definition of Musical Album with a game included for free

I think the musical influences are what make guilty gear so unique from other anime games

I mean absolutely no disrespect but Daisuke does NOT look 50 wtf. Man was right when he said he transcended his existence.
yea still looks like his 30s tops
i swear Asian people don't age until they're REALLY old
HE’S 50??
I think that’s really cool in retrospect though, my dad’s almost 60 and is just getting into these games
Bruh he looks like he just got out of college lmao

Relatable. The only other character I can think of that is similarly unique is demoman from tf2: black scottish cyclops, alcoholic demolitionist

One of my favorite things about Guilty Gear is its old school anime vibes.
I NEED a book on his musical compositions😭
GUILTY GEAR LET'S GO BABY.THIS WHAT HUMANITY HAS BEEN WAITING FOR.
Wait, he was 10 in 1983.... WAS THAT THE BIT OF 83
I keep forgetting he was born in SA.
That aside Daisuke is the pinnacle of an artist
Exzektor seems like a really cool concept for a game
