- Lara Croft Was not always one of the world 's most successful Tomb Raiders. See how a story begins with a young Lara Croft, accompanied by her former mentor , Werner Von Croy . Together they travel to the temple of Angkor Wat in Cambodia in the hope of finding the legendary Iris. The expedition ended in disaster when Von Croy triggered a trap that was caught , and Lara had to leave to avoid the same fate. Von Croy survived, but the incident caused a grudge between them that lasted for years.
An ancient Egyptian legend, the evil god Seth was the victim of deceit and imprisoned in a remote tomb in the Valley of the Kings , warning that Seth returns for revenge. During a scan in the Valley of the Kings, Lara Croft discovers the tomb of Seth and unwittingly releases the ancient evil unleashed his take of the sarcophagus of Seth Horus Amulet Of The Ankh chest, thus fulfilling the prophecy that threatens to destroy humanity and submit to eternal darkness . Lara must therefore reverse the damage caused and lock again the god Seth forever in the depths of the Great Pyramid, with the indirect help of the god Horus , solving any number of puzzles and gathering the needed parts to do .. - Фільми й анімація

Actually for its time the CGI cutscenes (i mean the high poly cutscenes) were so damn pretty well done, and even those incredible particles, etc
This was my favourite game and it had a really good story.
Was about 12 or 13 when I played this... I cried so hard after that last scene thinking Lara was forever gone... 😢
I love this game so much, the story, the atmosphere, the characters, the puzzles. Every level is so well done.
And i love her voice actress in this game.

Brown Gforce YES same for me! I was a kid when I first played it and I was scared as hell. Especially since you can't kill them with normal weapons. The game's really hard though.

The plaque lara reads in front of the sphinx is actually there, and says everything she reads out. It's called the "Dream Stela" and dated to around the 18th dynasty when Pharaoh Thutmosis IV, then just a prince, fell asleep during a hunt near the sphinx which was at the time buried up to it's neck in sand. He dreamed that the sphinx told him if he dug it out of the sand, he would become the next pharaoh, which later did actually happen. But most historians think he just made up the dream as a divine excuse to murder his brother to become pharaoh.
One of my favorite tomb raider games if not the favorite of them all. They should remake this one with better graphics
You know as a child i could never understand how Werner escaped the Iris temple but then we learned in Tomb Raider Chronicles that the Iris can teleport

I think the in-game version of Lara looks way hotter than the version in the cinematic cutscenes with better graphics. The in-game version has a much prettier face.
This Game is indeed a challenge , difficult at times, But great story line and puzzles!!
This was the 1ST tomb Raider game that got me into lara croft. I played the demo on Dreamcast back in like 1999. I only fully beat the game once, but I have prob got to the city of the dead part multiple times. I was playing this I think last year on PS3. Hoping PS4 has an update that lets you play PS1 games. I have played all the tomb raiders. Wish rise of the tomb raider released on PS4. LARA CROFT STARTED ON SONY!!!!!!!

I played all the TRs since childhood, to the point that I was a bit upset for a while at how sensitive the new Lara was, in 2013. Lara was shown a cheeky young girl with a fearless attitude, so it made little sense to me that she would be brought back to be a shy, scared woman in the latest ones. She even got her little adventure backpack here, at 16, that wasn't carried over.
I'm always shocked in the library when Von Croy says he doesn't believe in ancient hocus pocus. Doesn't he remember what happened last time he said that? He was trapped in Ankgor Wat.
That's called "sloppy writing". George Lucas is a master of that.
I love all the old school tomb raiders for the incredible music they came with but Tomb raider 4 has a certain special to it in the music it will live with me up until i die ❤
This game is basically Tomb Raider's answer to The Mummy movies. We've been doing it longer bitch, and it is awesome.

This game I played at 18 got me interested in Egypt. LOL Seth is the god under my birth sign and the more searching I did on him me and him have lots in common. Egyptian deitys like Seth are interesting and over the years this particular deity has reached out to me and well.. what can I say I do work with Seth. so ya this game got me interested in Egyptology since. But finding my god under my birth sign makes lots of sense. I'm not crazy this is real stuff. but ya love all tomb raider games and I love Lara Croft's attitude on things she inspires me to be that tough girl and go on adventures although she is a fictitious character but still love how they made her.
Now i know why Werner left Lara in Egipt but i did not know he was a Villian at first, possesed by Seth.
How did Von Croy survived being traped and hanged on his leg? Its been 15 years since that flashback.
He used the iris to teleport, later Lara does the same in TR Chronicles.

Bad memory of killing off Lara and then bringing her back in a half ass version of her former self. Plus we as players never got to bring her back. Though now I suppose the games are all right but I'll never forgive the slight we players were dealt in her untimely demise and sudden revival.

They had the best feel. Lara's personality is totally different in the new games and it makes me dislike the new ones. I liked that she had a strong intuitive personality. The new one comes off weak. The plots and atmosphere were totally different.

The new generation of players wouldn't care and they are the ones who buy most games so all focus is sadly on them. They already remade the first Tomb Raider with the original programmer Toby Guard. It was a nice 10th anniversary game. Too many remakes ruins a franchise. Though they did a very nice "remake level" of the first level of Tomb Raider II - The Dagger of Xian

The Iris has the power of teleportation, I think it's mentioned in Tomb Raider Chronicles. That's he got out and how Lara got out of VCI in Chronicles.

Was Werner Von Croy a good guy during the levels Angkor Wat and Race for the Iris? If so, I really don’t get it how he became evil after the events of Angkor Wat and Race for the Iris. Was it because he was mad at Lara because she didn’t help Werner when he got trapped in that globe with the Iris in? Or was he possessed of Seth ever since the level The Tomb of Seth? Von Croy didn’t have red eyes during the first levels after Race for the Iris, which he had later in the game when Jean Yves said that Von Croy was possessed of Seth.
Jfso Loasjd it's really ominous, also the story in AOD doesn't really help, since there she's angry at him again. Also honestly, Lara's also quite fast on the trigger and her "brat-factor" can tend to be obnoxiously high from time to time. So in conclusion:There might be some plot inconsistencies or unclear storytelling at least - sadly, since the whole idea is really good!
He wasn't bad in the beginning just arrogant. Maybe he was already jealous at young Lara too, because she was able to keep up and even won the race for Iris. Later they were simply rivals.
In TR5 there was a part where we steal the Iris from Von Croy's building. So he had his reason to be angry... (And Lara thought she has the right to keep the Iris too)
Then when Seth possessed him he turned into brutal mode. But at the end you can see that he never wanted Lara dead, they were just playing the game. Yes, there are still inconsistencies, but games didn't really focus on story back then, with a better script this would be a nice continuing story part in a modern TR game.

God, the cutscenes and story was so terrible and filled with holes.
