  • Telefunken master 20172, rec. Berlin, October 1934.
Kurt Richter (tenor & g), Hans Hahn (tenor & g), Heinz Düwert (baritone & g), Erwin Teichmann (bass & g).
This group started about 1930, at first calling themselves „Die vier Wedding Boys after the part of Berlin where they worked as street musicians. After continuously working the backyards for about two years, the group was invited to do some radio broadcast that in turn led to a first recording contract. After the first successes of the group tenor Richter decided to turn professional, which made a change of their line-up inevitable - in fact, none of the original musicians except Richter (who now also gave his name to the ensemble) remainded. Between 1933 and 1939 the group was a big success with the more conservative crowd, mainly singing folk songs and the kind of repertoire that proved to be popular on the streets in their starting years. Rarely were they featured on dance band records, and they generally avoided more uptempo material. Yet they were popular not only in Germany, but also toured Italy and Poland with considerable success. They disbanded when the war started, at that time having recorded more than 250 titles. Kurt Richer, who never had a new band after the war, died in East Berlin in 1984.
This song is fairly typical of the Richters style. As with many Telefunken discs of the cheap „Musicus series, pressing and master quality is lousy with lots of hiss, but as Ive been asked to upload this particular song (one of their rarer discs), I thought Id comply.
