A mock drill is a practice that trains an individual about the course of action to be taken in case of an emergency situation. Mock drills are one of the most important aspects of disaster mitigation. Mock drills are widely practiced in many parts of the world, in various environments such as in industries buildings, etc. When practiced properly, mock drills can help in saving hundreds of lives when an actual emergency situation arises. Scheduled opportunities for comprehensive fire emergency response training for employees as well as contractor employees within a company and others;
Determine whether a designated person can competently respond in accordance with the emergency fire and evacuation procedures;
Determine whether a person carry out their duties in a timely manner;
Assess the ongoing effectiveness of the emergency procedures under different fire scenario conditions, and comply with the PNGRB requirement for conducting fire drills.
To test the working conditions and effectiveness of all fire and emergency equipment and also other equipment.
In emergency managing time is very important, the initial few minutes are critical and timely action may avoid the mishap. For persons to perform quickly their assigned roles, it is essential that each individual should be made aware of emergency rehearsals which will impart procedures and their individual roles through proper training.
There are two types of mock drill;
Onsite mock drill: Onsite emergency means an emergency that takes place in installation & the effect is confined to the installation premises involving only the people working in the plant & to deal with such eventualities is the responsibility of the owner & is mandatory. In onsite mock drill only the person related to the installation shall be involved.
Offsite mock drill: Offsite emergency means an emergency that takes place in installation and outside the installation like leakage/fire in the pipeline, leakage/fire in the mobile cascades, etc. & the effects of emergency extends beyond the premises or the emergency created due to an incident, catastrophic incidents, natural calamities, etc. It no longer remains the concern of the installation management alone but also becomes a concern for the general public living outside & to deal with such eventualities shall be the responsibilities of the district administration. In offsite mock drill involvement of district administration, local fire brigade, local police & mutual aid partner, etc. is required. The mock drill procedure is applicable to all the sites of the entity. This document is hereby referred to as Procedure for mock drill.
