    My nephew learned the same sort of technique in the army and it really does work. You could use that fold and a paper clip to shut a bag of chips, toss it on top of an ant hill, and they aren’t getting in, unless they chew through the bag but nothing is perfect 😀

    Ha! That’s the same fold I used for yeast, nuts, potato chips, snacks! It’s been a favorite of mine since I lived out of a backpack while serving at an Amphibious command in the Navy. I used to be a spook of sorts way back when. That fold kept my gear dry when stored in a dry bag in the pack.

    I do a similar technique with my fast-food bags in a drive through so my fries don't get cold on the drive home. I also wasn't thinking of these types of videos when thinking about the mead/non-mead split of the videos. Cheers!

    Exactly what I do with yeast and other cultures, and I have re-sealable vacuum bags I put them in to store. Especially with my salami and mold cultures...
    There's my Egon moment.😁

    Y'all should try another filter episode. I found a wine filter that's supposed to clear up wine after pectin enzyme is used to drop some of the sediment. And best part is you don't need a pump from what I've seen. It's called Vinbrite mark lii wine filter it looks like a disk thing for chlorinating a pool.

      I have looked into it. Not worth the money imo. The filters aren't cheap, need to be replaced constantly and they leak. Better to just let it settle and siphon. If we made all 5 gallon batches, maybe it would be more worthwhile, but for small batch brewing it's not worth it.

    It seems that i can not use the method on my yeast..
    I can't fold my sealable jar so i just put the lid on and fridge it ;) and take some out when i make a mead but yea the fold works on bags ;)

    Where do you age wine at room temperature? And does temperature fluctuation actually matter that much if it's about 5 degrees fahrenheit up and down?

      We just put it on the shelves you see in the background. We have not noticed 5 degrees making a difference.

    One addition: Write the date on that piece of tape so you can always know how long it has been.

    Ugh I had that same yeast. I made two brews and ended up adding another yeast to both. My last brew I tested it in water. the yeast sunk like it was lead an did nothing in 30 minutes. I threw the rest away. Bread yeast for me from now on

    What is better: refrigerating or freezing yeast or do both work equally well? How about if the packet isn't opened yet?

    • @CitySteadingBrews
      @CitySteadingBrews  28 днів тому

      I don't know if freezing is better or not, but we've not had issues with refrigerating ALL yeast, open or not.

      @@CitySteadingBrews Thanks. Yea, based on info I've seen, it doesn't seem to matter too much. Although, opened packs should definitely be refriged or freezed -- not left at room temp.

      @@criticalthinker2477 I would even keep unopened cold as well. Yeast are living things.

    Why would I put live yeast in my freezer? Wouldn’t that kill the little yeasty beasties?

    • @CitySteadingBrews
      @CitySteadingBrews  27 днів тому

      We use the fridge. Many use the freezer. Apparently it doesn't kill them. Room temp though over time will.
