    Geek U.S.A. being #43 is a clear testament to how truly great the band was/is to have 42 better songs. As a lifelong smashing pumpkins fan I can't argue with the placement either. Their discography is just that deep.

    one of the best solo's ever played IMO, perfect balance of widdle and noise , Billy is an underrated guitarist, and Jimmy is just silly on this track

    This is such a great song. It's up there with Quiet and Silverfuck for me. The Astoria Theatre 94 show has a great version of this with rant.

    One of the weaker songs on Siamese Dreams is in no way a bad thing. I'd have to disagree on that point as it's one of my favorites on the album.

      Speaks to the greatness of the album if this is on the lower end.

    This and Silverfuck are the best tracks on the album, if this track had a clearer production, it could have been made in recent years,in terms of how its written and approach to layers

    Billy, Jimmy, Iha, Wretzky... and beyond with mainly Billy, amazing. Even today. But especially back then, the output of quality music and experimentation they embraced were reacing heights of what Bowie, Beatles, Prince, Sex Pistols, Floyd, Zepplin... (sorry, I don't know them all) were trying and doing. Expanding their art and not settling for it. I'm checking out more of these. Kudos!

    Perfectly said. Just because it's hard to play on drums, doesn't make it good. But with jimmy, a lot if his stuff is hard to play but still good and super fun to listen to.

  • @separator94
    @separator94 3 роки тому +2

    As good as Jimmy's drumming was in this song, his skills developed a lot for Mellon Collie. In fact, the whole band got quite a bit better. It sucks that Billy, and his gargantuan ego, had to go and ruin everything.

    • @THEDEEPDIVE
      @THEDEEPDIVE  3 роки тому +4

      I ask you to let these songs be great by themselves without having to wear the weight of what happened after they were made. the 'corgan and his ego sucks' narrative won't matter in 200 years.. but folks will still listen to Geek USA and go 'HOLY SHIT!'

    • @separator94

      @@THEDEEPDIVE I never said I didn't. I was praising their music as Mellon Collie is one of my favorite albums of all time. The original Pumpkins is also one of my all time favorite bands. I saw them live six times during the 90's as well as once more with their new line-up in 2006 in Toronto. Gish, Pisces Iscariot, Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie are all straight-up masterpieces. Adore not so much (although it has some brilliant tracks) but Machina was pretty strong. I'm still willing to recognize all the terrible things he said in interviews about his own band mates and other bands though. Calling James and Darcy talentless and saying the only reason they are in the band is for the purpose of "high fashion". You don't ignore history just because you like someone's music. I still recognize him as a genius song writer, though, and always have. Well, not so much these days but back in the 90's he was truly brilliant.
      Their 'The Aeroplane Flies High' box set, of B-sides and rarities, is also great by the way. Check it out if you haven't. The song "The Aeroplane Flies High" itself is incredible and should've made it onto one of their albums.
      I also own an American made Billy Corgan signature strat. The one with the tripple humbuckers (the lace sensor ones), the throw back 70's head stock, and a hard tail bridge which I play all the time. It's matt white. I've had it for five years and have been playing guitar for twelve.
      I enjoyed the video, by the way, and look forward to the rest of your Top 50 list.

      @@THEDEEPDIVE Nice. Can't wait to see the rest of your selections. I honestly think Mellon Collie may be the best double album of all time. I hold Pink Floyd's 'The Wall' up there pretty high, but for me, Mellon Collie is far more solid. A straight playthrough album from beginning to end. Not a single bad song on it. Many of the best ones not even being radio played. Porcelina of the Vast Oceans for example. I mean, words can't describe how beautiful that song is.

    Oh yes. First album I had as a 14 yr old kid just after getting this yard sale drum kit. Jimmy's insane jazz / rock fusion style inspired me early on and I had to learn how to play like him and build my kit. Lots of fun. That man has several different clocks going in his head at all times. It's legendary lol.
