Tomino no Zigoku is a poem which really exits and being said that you must not read aloud or else you would die or brings you unhappiness. I think the document in the game was mimicing it, the way the document goes is very similar. The rumor started because there was a dramatist who made a movie based on the poem and he died after that and also there are people who read it and say that they experienced terrible things afterwards.
I think Masaki died from pure bad luck and "occupational hazard". He ran a radio show where people could share scary stories, so Touko--haunted and traumatized--reached out. I think all of those "friends" and "cousins" were her, and the general flow of time (elementary school, seeing ghosts; junior high, family is sick and best friend dies; and high school, brother is hospitalized for illness and all she has) supports it. She went from lonely, haunted, and Depressed to a vindictive spirit after she was 'fooled' by a pair of ghosts into wasting time while her brother was dying, so that she couldn't be there when he died. Instead, she got to the hospital room late, where his spirit accuses her of wasting time and abandoning him when he was in pain. Having lost the only (living) person in her life and wracked with guilt, she's consumed by her negative feelings (as suggested in the poem), writes her pain into that poem, which take on a vindictiveness of their own and cause death to anyone who reads it. I believe the woman who appeared a couple times--always very dead--was Touko, and jumping was likely how she died (as she had planned to when she was younger), which is what the power line suggests.
The best part of this game was the driving (obviously lol) but for horror wise; those tapes made me feel so unsettled. The voice acting was really well done and I could feel the tension with each tape. I didn’t expect this upload to be here so soon but I’m happy it was.
Imagine peacefully sleeping in your village and you hear a loud squeal outside your window, so you look and see this truck smashing into everything (including a large boar) and just speeding away at 5 billion kph XD
Evelien’s driving in the kei(?) truck slayed me. Plus the accents in editing: The flashlight, the demon truck, camera shake. Just a fun watch and I always enjoy hearing her elaborate about Japanese *and* Dutch words. I’d honestly love a Dutch video with English subtitles!
When you started to read the poem aloud in the ending with the chat logs, my adrenaline spiked so hard. XD I know it's just a spooky video game, but my reflex was just "GAB NO"
man the voice acting is really good, I'm at tape 2 and tearing up because the player's brother sounded so sweet and so passionate about horror, like I'm so fond of the dude already and then remember that gone and get even sadder bc of how the player character must be feeling.
I always love how the translation is different from what is actually said - for instance, he (the narrator at the beginning) more or less says "I don't understand..." instead of the long sentence that explains the context of just what he didn't understand etc. I LOVE the contextual nature of Japanese; I find myself trying to treat English that way and people are like wait hold up a sec. Not that my Japanese is great, but I understood a fair amount of the intro cutscene. Your pronunciation is stellar - I'm sure you're better than me, haha.
Haha, yees I love it too! I believe french also works this way, both japanese and french are known as "poet languages", usually refers to languages in which one very same word means plenty of different things depending of the context
Chilla’s Art games are so fun, I love how they are all a bit different and we got to settle in for story time here 😁 My Japanese is so rusty but it was interesting hearing about the katakana mixed in the letters. The scares were so well done in this holt shit. It's been a VERY long time since any horror game has genuinely terrified me. The best scare was probably when the lady turned off the engine and climbed into the backseat. My car battery died last night after having watched this the day before yesterday and it scared the fucking shit out of me I literally thought I was going to die this game is by far the best of chillas art, and in my opinion the scariest
I love that Gabs didn't read the poem, I was very anxious she'd do it, I'm glad she didn't. I don't believe bad things happens like that but we shouldn't doubt it either
@@appleuwumer ppl have their believes. Sometimes its better to not even risk it even if you dont think its real. Some of those beliefs to ghosts connected to their religions. That was great. I'm sure it's a bit different actually playing it but watching that was one of the most unsettling feelings I've gotten. Really well done all around between the play, the game, and the editing
Those narrow mountain roads a so scary. We went the temple town on top of Mt. Koya in Kansai and the bus that takes you from the ropeway to the town just barrels down the road, covered in snow, and you can only see the steep drop looking down and out the window, no road. That's how close to the edge it was.
yeah it always kinda bugs me when people make fun of or shit on misspellings or mistakes in grammar/language in video games, especially when the video game had to be translated from a different language into english. it's just really stupid and frustrating and you can't seriously act like you've never made mistakes in grammar/spelling/etc.
as someone who has actually read tomino no zigoku out loud(don't ask, i was a very stupid child) it extremely terrifying and i literally still have nightmares about it. yeah everything that happened around that time could have been coincidence but still, it was awful and scary and me and my friends all experienced the same types of thing. very very real and scary things. we would get nosebleeds randomly and get into big accidents, i woke up with countless scratches and would have really bad lucid dreams and nightmares. my friend almost got into a car crash. i do not ever recommend trying to read or even looking up the poem
Wow that's so wild. I'm not sure how to put it but it's kind of interesting that you and your friends had symptoms of being possessed by a demon when you look at it from christianity perspective. Because it's in japanese so there's no way christianity is something to do with it I guess. I also wonder when you've done it and if it's still going on or not, but I do hope all of you are ok by now. Take care.
Dreams are weird. Once I passed out in a music concert from low blood sugar and I was dreaming that I was being carried by demons into hell. It was actually people passing me over the crowd barrier to security guards who carried me on their shoulders. I've never had such a real feeling dream before and since then, my mind created the demonic visuals for what was happening to me in reality, but the visuals were like nothing I had ever seen in real life or horror films. That's what made it so scary.
I personally think it’s just a legend because so many people have read it aloud and nothing happened. When you fear something enough and believe in it, that’s when it becomes apart of your reality.
The third tape just reinforces my hatred of hospitals; it smells of death to me, and I'm always on edge when I have to visit the hospital for whatever reason x.x
this whole game sent chills down my spine, The 4th tape i had to play the video at 0.5 speed because the subs flew by so fast i couldn't read what was said in time.
I've never lived in Japan but I used to live in a rural American town with single lane roads. They're the worst! There was one on a cliffside that frequently had logging trucks going up and down it and deer that got hit frequently. It was so scary!

I do kind of wish she had read the subtitles or summarized the tapes, though not the poem obviously. I can't really see well enough to follow subtitles, so I feel like there was quite a bit of the story that I was having to piece together in context clues that other viewers might have gotten from the tapes or the dialogue.
