Richard Dreyfuss' acting here is just astonishing. What a masterpiece! This whole movie is just a gem. I re-watch it every two or three months. Thank you USA for this comedy and hello from Russia.
reminds me of Ted Knight's acting in Caddyshack. Murray is rightfully lauded for his acting, but his films also benefited from some great supporting performances.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who appreciated Dreyfuss' performance here. I even love the subtle bits of business at the beginning, where he's adjusting the items in his office. Just excellent.
@@halloweenfriday (free advertising) I'm a lucky person in that I got to read the original screenplay which was extremely dark, but still funny. Bob is the villain of this film. He 'knows' what he's doing and he does it to perfection. He deliberately ruins Marvin's life, and ends up permanently a part of his family which will now become his own. It was too dark for audiences to understand so Bob became more sympathetic in a goofball comedy
@shanebracken8358 Well, all four of them were clapping with excitement but when Leo said "get out" the first time, Anna was looking like she got the message that her dad was not saying "get out" with surprise thinking the interview was a success but was actually telling Bob to get out of his house while Siggy was suspecting that something didn't sound right and was clapping with nervousness while looking back and forth at Bob and his dad. Unfortunately, Fay and Bob didn't get the message until Leo said "get out" a second time realizing then and there that Leo was telling Bob with anger to get out of his house.
+DontrelleRoosevelt If memory serves correctly, dreyfuss approached murray and actually asked him to tick him off/get on his nerves outside of filming so that when filmin actually occurred, the performances would be all the more believable
I'm hoping the script asked him to say "Get out of my/the car" and knowing what we know of Richard Dreyfuss, we can only hope he improvised it to his own perfect way!
0:55 ohmygosh, I can't take it. it's too frickin' hilarious....the whole movie, but right now specifically that one moment. this movie has been my FAVE since I was, like, 8 years old!!!!! Almost 20 years!!
+osamabad Actually, Anna looks like she got the message even more than Siggy since she wasn't clapping with excitement seeing the look on her face but Siggy was clapping with excitement not giving a happy look on his face.
+osamabad That's true. Siggy looked like he understood when Leo said "get out" with anger that it wasn't a compliment of feeling happy feeling that his dad was telling Bob to get out of the house.
@@Steveman27 Actually, it doesn't seem like Bob and Faye got the message because after Leo said "get out" the first time, Bob and Faye were showing happiness because I was told when someone says "get out", it's a way of saying something like "you're kidding" where Bob thought Leo was saying "you're kidding, was I really that good in the interview?" and when Bob said "no we won't get out you deserve it" was his way of saying "not kidding at all, you did a great job and deserve a round of applause" not realizing Leo was telling Bob to get out of his house. On the other hand, Anna and Siggy got the message where Anna wasn't clapping with excitement seeing the look on her face and Siggy was clapping with nervousness and/or confusion looking back and forth at Bob and his dad feeling that something didn't sound right when his dad said "get out." Then when Leo said "I mean get out", both Bob and Faye got the message too realizing where Leo was saying "I don't care about the interview, Bob get out of my house."
+Jordan Carrington I think the beginning part of his vacation was actually work related because "Good Morning America" was coming to interview him on the book he was the author of. Then after "Good Morning America" left was probably when Leo could start having a fun and relaxing vacation. Unfortunately, Bob messed things up for Leo having people having their attention on Bob only and not Leo making it sound like Bob was the author of "Baby Steps" and not Leo. However, I feel it's kind of Anna and Siggy's faults that Bob is with them because Bob mentioned that he's spending his vacation in New Hampshire with the Guttman's and after Bob left Leo's home after quickly dropping by to deliver flowers to Fay, Bob was probably going to head back to the Guttman's but, Anna wanted Bob to go sailing with her and out of coincidence Bob saw Siggy who offered to help him dive with Leo trying to drown Bob but, the whole family (except Leo) invited Bob for dinner and then invited Bob to sleep over because of the rain even though Bob mentioned that he was hoping it wasn't too much trouble for him to sleep over.
@@idanoreilly Somehow Bob is assuming Leo telling him to get out of the house was Leo's way of trying to cure his problems which is why the moment when Bob said "is this some radical new therapy?" was Bob's way of saying "that didn't work to cure my problems." Regarding the police, probably even if Leo called them, maybe they would have refused to arrest Bob after seeing him on "Good Morning America" because that one security guard at the mental hospital saw Bob and was very happy to see him and said "you're Bob Wiley, I saw you on TV you were great" and that police officer who gave Leo a ticket said out loud "hey didn't I see that guy on TV?" Plus, Dr. Tomsky would have been surprised with Leo calling the police (even though she hasn't met Bob yet during this scene) because after Leo tried committing Bob to the mental hospital having Dr. Tomsky as his new psychologist, she said that she was giving Bob back to him explaining that it's okay for a patient like Bob to communicate with his psychologist.
