*About Aruna Sairam*
Aruna Sairam (Padma Shri) is a Carnatic vocalist, composer, collaborator, humanitarian, and speaker. In addition to her performances in India, Aruna has taken Carnatic music to the global arena, at prestigious venues including the Royal Albert Hall and Carnegie Hall. Currently Vice Chairperson of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, Delhi, she was appointed in 2008 by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu as Advisor to the Department of Culture. Aruna works towards the musical education of underprivileged students, through the Nadayogam Trust, which she founded in 2011. Aruna is grateful for the training she received under her mother Rajalakshmi Sethuraman and the legendary T. Brinda, and the mentorship from several masters throughout her musical journey. Her music erased geographic borders when she was the first to incorporate Abhang, a Western Indian musical form, into a traditional, South Indian concert.

Arunaji I listened to Chakkani Raja sung by you in your 2015 program, only today now. I may bring your memory to recollect an incident in 2006 when you came to a Guest House in Chennai exactly 16 years ago to pay your respects to a Swamigal from Bangalore who was staying n the said guest house. You came and sat on the chair across my work desk, I ignored you for two or three minutes and when I lifted my head and asked you what you wanted you mentioned your name and had come to visit the Swamigal. I obtained a slip from you and sent it through the housekeeper to Swamigal. You were perhaps surprised to see no reaction from me or I recognized who you were and also perhaps observed my fingers in both hands crooked and stiff When you asked, I mentioned to you I had a GBS attack 80% recovered and on wheelchair being unable to walk. I asked you "are you the singer Aruna Sairam" and you replied "Yes". It was taking time for the call from Swamigal. You asked me "do you like music?" I said "yes". Chakkani Raja was the song I liked most but I did not here that song for a long time" Without any hesitation you said "I shall sing the song for you". You started singing and when you just finished Anupallavi, the message from the Swamigal calling you received. You left with an excuse to me. Madam, it was hardly 3 minutes and my mind was engrossed in your rendition and I felt a peculiar positive vibration in my body. Next day morning I felt and noticed my fingers in both hands got relaxed and improvement in the movement in the fingers. My physiotherapist was surprised at the sudden improvement. Within 15/20 days I started walking though slow. The rendition of Chakkani Raja made a fantastic change then. The positive vibration!!!
