  • We're revisiting the first part of the Brodia arc of Fire Emblem Engage on Maddening difficulty. This is on the 1.3.0 patch using fixed growths.
    Questions this time:
    - How should you use the Ancient Well?
    - Where should you go after completing Chapter 6?
    - What are the benefits and drawbacks of delaying the first two paralogues even more?
    - Who deserves the first Master Seal?
    - How much money should you donate, and when?
    - Should you really try to get Canter on everyone?

Honestly, I know it would be a lot of work but I'd be interested to see the entire playthrough in this style. It's really insightful and I appreciate the style a lot, it's like a more casual version of your conquest videos.

Another thing I think is important to consider with who gets the early promotions is who has the most desirable Lvl 5 Promoted abilities. Units like Alear and Alcryst (if keeping them in their unique classes) depend heavily on these skills as part of their gameplay, as do classes like Mage Knight or Halberdier. Being able to get these class skills online earlier massively helps those units to contribute in meaningful ways towards the midgame, which in turn helps weaker units as well. You can even combine this idea with getting staff access through Céline and Vidame, though Ignis isn’t the most reliable or unit defining skill available lmao

Found out the hard way that a S-rank meal is really non-optional to hit the needed thresholds with this strategy.
-Alfred and Chloe both need +2 defense or they die during the first enemy phase without avoiding an attack
-If you try giving Chloe a defense tonic to make up for a poor meal the enemies sometimes target Alear instead during the first two enemy phases. That one in particular is a pretty delicate balance
-Chloe needs +2 magic to kill one of the mages with the Levin Sword
-If Framme doesn't have +2 speed she gets doubled by Ivy and dies, and can't Chain Guard to stop a crit on Alear.
Most of these can be worked around with the Time Crystal and restarting, but point 2 can really mess up the strat, especially if Alear is underleveled

I’m starting my Maddening right now, thanks for the guides man!! I am wondering tho, if I bought Lineage off the 3H bracelet, is it better to give it to the unit using Marth or Micaiah? It would probably be a difference of one map, but I am curious on which is better 👀

Probably Micaiah because there is a limit to how much experience is gained through combat, whereas you can Augment Mend so long as one enemy exists that can do damage to your units, the means to recharge Micaiah and of course enough Mend uses.
Lineage and Mentorship are passives that are nice to have on Byleth and 3H Bracelet, but I don’t think they’re good inheritable skills; Defender from Awakening and Fates share the same issue: a stat boost that’s spread too thin to be worth using and takes too long to see much benefit from.

Wait why exactly is hero not a good class? I thought it was like... The best non-mounted physical class? Is that just not really saying much?

its got brave assist which can be nice but I feel like best non-mounted physical class goes to warrior in this game

24:20 I think the Nintendo PC is trying to send a message on the quality of the idea here.

you think this game would've been better with inheritable class skills? a la awakening/fates?

only donate brodia for the materials to forge, the 3 first master seals in early game are the most important, alear, chloe or celine are ok (if u really like diamant u can use on him too, but is meh)
idk if u are taking advices or not but if ur interested u should def try this:
    bow knight amber with lyn
alcryst in his personal class with edelgard ring
warrior kagetsu with ike early and marth late
mage knight pandreo with lilina ring early and late with byleth for the spd bonuses
    wolf knight merrin with roy

I've been lazy/didn't want to bother putting them up while we knew the next big patch was pending
