  • How to Find New Customers: A Comprehensive Guide by Jim Gibson
Hi, this is Jim Gibson. Thank you for joining me today on my channel. I really appreciate it. I was going through the comments section on my UA-cam channel, and I noticed a lot of people had the same question: "How do you find customers?" Since this is such a crucial topic, I decided to make a detailed video to answer it thoroughly.
    Starting a Business: The Essentials
Define Your Customer and Their Problems
Before you even start your business, you need to answer two critical questions:
    Who is your customer?
What problem do they have that you can solve?
Be precise in defining your target customer and their pain points. This foundation is vital for your business's success.
    Choosing a Business Name
Your business name is crucial. Avoid using overly complex or funny names. Ideally, your business name should be:
Short and Easy to Spell: Think of brands like Sony, Google, or Amazon.
Descriptive of Your Service: If possible, choose a name that reflects what your business does. For example, Cablesupply.com clearly indicates it supplies cables.
Before finalizing your name, check if the domain name is available. A .com domain is essential for credibility.
    Setting Up Your Business
    Create a Professional Online Presence
Website: Build a simple, professional website with clear contact information.
Social Media: Set up accounts on platforms like UA-cam, Facebook, and LinkedIn. Make sure your profiles are consistent and professional.
Business Cards: Have business cards printed with your company name, logo, contact details, and any certifications you have.
    Develop a Pricing Strategy
Know your costs and set your prices. For example, when I started, I charged $35 per jack for cabling, plus the cost of the patch panel. This pricing strategy made it easy for customers to understand and budget for.
    Marketing Strategies to Find Customers
    Networking and Events
Churches and Synagogues: These can be excellent places to network.
Chamber of Commerce: Join and attend events to meet local business owners.
Golf and Social Clubs: Engage in activities where potential customers might be.
    Flyers and Direct Marketing
Create professional-looking flyers and distribute them in your target areas. This can be particularly effective for residential services.
    Advanced Customer Acquisition Tactics
    Radio and Media
Radio Commercials: Although radio is less popular now, it can still be effective. Consider modern equivalents like podcasts or online ads.
Interviews and Talk Shows: Get interviewed on business shows to reach a broader audience.
    Sponsorships and Events
Sponsor local events like marathons or golf tournaments. Ensure your logo and contact information are prominently displayed on event materials.
    Banners and Vehicle Wraps
Construction Sites: Use banners at job sites to advertise your services.
Service Vehicles: Invest in professional wraps for your vehicles to promote your brand on the go.
    Collaboration with Non-Competitors
Build relationships with businesses that offer complementary services. For example, if you provide cabling, partner with IT service providers who can refer their clients to you for cabling needs.
    Final Thoughts
Your success in business starts with clear goals and understanding your customers' needs. Use these strategies to build your brand, establish a professional presence, and find new customers. Remember, your customer is the person who writes the check, so focus on building strong relationships with them.
