I run two of the 45s, one at each end of my tank, facing each other. One set (physically high running at constant) just under the surface, and the other set lower, and at a slight angle, set to a random pulse (to just encourage floating detritus toward the drain). It gives a really good mixed flow around the tank, and with one set constant, it moves any detritus along to the wier/drain and the variation and reverse on the other gives a good mix of current. Cheap? ... maybe not, but really good setup flexibility, and really easy to clean, as you can strip the thing, and leave most of the kit in the tank, and remove the impellers (colour coded for replacement) and clean them. I do two in around 30 minutes. Well worth considering!

For the effectiveness I think that they are very expensive. I have one that compliments two Tunze current pumps. If I want another gyre I'll get the Jebao and a coral or two but its looking good for now. In my tank it provides turbulece to the laminar flow.

Bought the 45's after Ryan showed me the 25's set up in his red sea tank, as well as the Reef LED90's too after seeing them and being undecided.
Great knowledge at drop off, and I end up talking for ages with him over various stuff. Very friendly and helpful, him and Kelly have plenty of time for you, best shop around Crewe/Nantwich and beyond. He quarantines his fish and corals, and you can actually see set up
. I've seen other shops throw thousands of fish and corals straight into their display tanks, so making buying risky. Not here.

Do you keep the wave maker on at night? Curious if I should maybe have it turn off - or maybe have lower flow?

      Hi Kyle,
Yes I keep the wave maker on at night.
Good but not overly strong flow is key for a healthy reef aquarium.
