My husband’s grandma had a quote that stuck with me: “if you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change”. This is a rule I live by because it has made me a much more positive person looking for the silver lining all the time…

I swear a form of my procrastinating is watching these type of videos and thinking “I already know all this” but normally they don’t work to push me to move and get things done 🫠🙃but this one here…I’m in the middle of actually starting what I been dreading. Your story about dropping the rope with stressful people reminded me of a similar time in my life that reshaped how I saw my friends and where I put in my time and effort.
While I was going through IVF I experienced a side effect to a medication that made me extremely sick for weeks and could have become lethal. In that time I didn’t have the energy to reach out to people and for the entire time I was sick, only two friends checked in to see how I was doing. My so-called best friend didn’t even text me. No way she could have disappeared for weeks without me worrying and checking in.
It hurt SO MUCH, but I’ve reinvested my time and energy into the friends who were there for me and making new friends, and I’m so much happier now.

Cas.. Your "5 minutes matters" mantra is one of the rules that has changed my life.. I am such a perfectionist, which used to cause me to procrastinate so often because if I couldn't do it "correctly" I wasn't going to start until I could.. now I always tell myself, "5 minutes matters.. just get started." It has flowed all throughout my life, and I tell myself that all the time!! Thank you!! 😊

When you were talking about not wasting energy on certain relationships even if they’re family, I totally wanted to high-five you! It doesn’t mean there's anything wrong with you, or even with them - it’s just that somehow together you don’t work.
Many years ago, before ‘toxic relationships’ really became a thing talked about, my brother and I went separate ways. I got SOOO much flack from certain family members, including our mom! (and still do). But it was one of the best decisions EVER, right up there with my marriage, kids, career, and house :) And I'm sure for it has been great for him and his family as well. Does it mean I wish him anything bad? Certainly not! But do I HAVE to have a relationship with him, when it only caused both of us pain? Nope :)
It’s part of MY number one rule: Live my life in a way that works for ME, even if it looks totally weird to someone else. That other person doesn’t have the same strengths and weaknesses I do, and they don’t have to live with me everyday, but I do, so why not give myself a break? 😁

Thank you for this!! It is helping me validate giving up on relatives who only reached out to me for $$, and yet months and years of loving them so very much, but they couldn't be bothered to even reply to a text saying 2 words like Merry Christmas. I don't feel so guilty giving up the hope of being close to or wanted by them anymore.

You are ABSOLUTELY right about minivans. The sliding doors, the extra seating, plenty of cargo space, the ease of creating more space with the stow and go seats. You can’t beat it. I’m 5’3” and I like that a minivan allows me to sit high - sedans are too low that I have to drop down into the seat. SUVs are too high. I have to hoist my 59-year old self into place or require a step stool to get in! And now that grandchildren are completing our family, it’s back to the reliable minivan. No other option serves a person better

  • @mkathrynblacker5960
    @mkathrynblacker5960 Рік тому +59

Haha, great rules Cass!! Thank you for sharing your thoughts - your ADHD experience has helped us so much to realize we are not crazy, just need to work within our limitations! 💕 For what it's worth, I do take issue with the "smarter not harder" mentality, which is so popular these days. I love how your key point was: "if you get the SAME results" - not similar or marginal results. Living a life of shortcuts can actually exacerbate our anxiety and ADHD because the quicker we get things done, the more we feel compelled to do. So many young people today have strong feelings about issues, but they don't know WHY and they don't take the time to get the information they need to make a sound decision. They take the first thing they hear as truth and don't have the ability to think it through logically. Teaching our kids to do short cuts in Math is great in theory, but scientific research has shown that doing long math actually teaches your brain to slow down, focus and understand WHY it works - thereby understanding math better, not just the functions. Teaching short math should only be done AFTER teaching long math. It's all about creating proper neuropathways. Pen & pencil and actually writing out lists, papers, etc does the same thing. Don't get me wrong, sometimes shortcuts are absolutely necessary but it should not be our daily life. BTW, I'm using voice text as I speak this so I can ride the treadmill. LOL 😂 A good way to get more things done, for sure, but I realize; I AM sacrificing my brain health and my anxiety to do so. One of my ADHD rules is: "More often than not, take the long way home." Do the job well and make sure it's done right because going back to fix something ultimately wastes time. If you have ADHD, did you make it to the end of this post? 😂😂😂

I LOVE my minivan! I have a painting business and it fits everything I need: ladders, paint trays, drop cloths, etc. We use it like a truck and stow the seats so we can haul things to the dump and move furniture. My minivan is old and rusty and just keeps on going. When I was a Cub Scout leader, we took the boys on a field trip. As they got in my van, one of them commented, "Wow, this van is really old." I’ve had this current one for 10 years now. One thing that you didn’t list, and it’s a huge benefit for me, is the fact that they’re easier to get in and out of. I recently had my hip replaced and have had other surgeries and a minivan is so easy because you don’t have to bend clear down to get in and out of it. You can just open the door and slide right in! I love all the cargo space and the automatic doors. It definitely makes my life easier.

My husband hated the idea of a minivan, until we got a minivan! It was a Toyota, and I remember him being the one who drive it home from the dealership. I wanted him to drive it, to prove to him he wasn’t going to turn into a soccer mom just because we had a minivan!
When we got home he said to me “well, the only thing wrong with it is, there’s nothing wrong with it”! That van stayed with us until my kids were firmly out of high school. I now have an SUV (which I love, and will never go back to a sedan) but I wouldn’t hesitate to own another minivan if the occasion arose! That minivan made trips across the country several times, and none of my three kids EVER COMPLAINED about space! That minivan was a godsend! ❤👍

I needed this. Agree with #5. I lost my father in August. We didn't talk for years because he physically, mentally, and sexually abused me. He never accepted that he did it. TEAM MINI VAN!! We got our mini van a few years ago and love it. We only got it because our pitbull is getting older and he loves to go for rides so we wanted something he could get in without jumping and hurting himself His back legs are giving me lots of trouble the past few years. We'll keep it even after he's gone because it carries our family around. We just welcomed our newest grandson and its easy to get him in and out of it.

I am here to tell you that for many of us, low rise jeans are the bane of our existence! I finally found a pair of high rise jeans that are also long enough for my very long legs...so I bought three pair! I love this video and can relate to this so so much! After some traumatic life events I’ve allowed my adhd to take over and I’ve found excuses to put off doing anything and everything. I have ocd & adhd which I used to my advantage to always keep a spotless organized home and I was so proud of it. Now I’ve added lupus, RA, and an epidural lipoma (benign spinal tumor that at the moment is stable. If it grows and presses on the spine it will need removing but there’s a chance it might not need removing. It’s a wait and see kinda thing but for right now sounds worse than it is.) So when the extreme fatigue & joint pain came then came an affair, lost my MIL I adored, and lost my grandma all back to back. Oh & we had to have our English bulldog put down due to cancer. And that’s just the big stuff. So the rug was jerked out from under me and all that I had based my life around, my husband & our little family, was no longer a constant. I just stopped doing anything. Then my youngest daughter after a year and a half of homeschooling due to bullying decided she missed being around other kids and went back to public school. I loved our time together and learning with her. So I was very lost. I felt everyone had a purpose but me. I finally decided that if God allows me to wake up each morning I still have a purpose. I may not know what it is but I have one. So I’ll get up and try to do what I can and if an opportunity knocks I’ll listen. If nothing else, this is a biggie, I have a much closer relationship with God. I truly believe I’d replaced my relationship with Him with my marriage. It says he is a jealous God. And if what happened hadn’t happened I probably wouldn’t have gone to Him the way I did. We are working on our marriage and family so all is not lost. But I also have always been a procrastinator and I learned at age 27 that I have adhd. I’ve always wondered if I’d had meds in college if I would have finished my bachelors degree because as soon as it got really hard I’d quit. I did that many many times. I did finish my junior year with a 3.833gpa. But I had one teacher & student that for whatever reason decided they didn’t like me. I had to take 2 classes under that teacher and I just couldn’t handle it. But now that I’m disabled I did get to become a stay at home mom which is all I ever wanted anyway. It’s just my youngest 2 are now 14 and I don’t know what I’ll do next. I’m sure something will come to me. I have bought a few online classes I haven’t done yet that I need to do. And I’ve bought 2 cricut machines to hopefully learn a hobby that I can make some spending money doing. Now I’ve just got to get this darn house I’ve neglected in shape and trust me it’s almost a hoarders mess! We have a tiny home that has way too many people and their stuff. I’m almost ready to burn it all to the ground and start over. 😂 But once it’s clean then I get to decorate and design my craft space which has me excited. So I’m using that to motivate me to clean. And I bought a tineco floor one S5 pro2. I’m so excited about it because mopping was hurting me too much to do and I can handle this. Our entire home is tile. And we are redoing the entire house one room at a time plus painting. It’s been 12 years since it’s be redone and everything is old, outdated, and nicked up. I want it redone. I just don’t want to do it but I’ll have to. Can you tell I have adhd. 😂 Sorry I didn’t mean to give you my life story or go all over the world and back. 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Reading your story has caused me some tears for you, such a heartfelt and caring person as you are and had so much to bear. Your post was so many months ago and I hope things have improved over the time that has passed. You sound really talented and gifted with insight also, I wish you many blessings, sometimes they're hard to come by, but hold onto yourself with the love and compassion that you've had for others. Best to you...❤

I love the quote from Joyce Meyer when a friend said “Do it afraid”. Great, helps me so much.

Personally I like Cass channel most out of all organizing youtubers that I've ever seen. I guess I see myself most in her videos, and I love her enthoustic ways. It's motiving, inspiring, helpful, and original. And just a good fit, often I'm like: hey I'm like that too, or I have that situation too.

She's the only one that I know of that teaches how to organize in different ways according to how your brain works. Traditional organizers teach one method fits all.

She truly has a unique gift, and a very special down home, nonsensical approach to communications with us. I enjoy most organizing videos, books, shows, etc., but this woman right here, is my ALL TIME FAVORITE! She’s special in a way that just outshines! Love her! ❤

Yes!! Mini Vans are the BEST!!! Regardless of the newer vehicles- a mini van has so much more ROOM AND makes going anywhere so much easier!!!

I also had the rule nr 10. My parents said : The people you surround yourself with decide what trouble you are yourself getting into.
