The only people with knowledge are busy trying to win, dont have time for the lengthy process that is script writing + expensive recording equipment + video editing. Going along with point 1, nobody would put in this much consistent time each week for basically no reward. 3. It's hard to do. Even looking back at my videos I can see so many ways I could have presented the info more clearly or more succinctly. The "How to Combo with Falco" video basically took me like 8 hours of writing + time continuing to think about how to do it while going out to eat or discussing it with friends while hanging out. Maybe someone would be able to do it faster than me but a lot of this game becomes subconscious, we aim to beat these techniques and general strategies into our instinct so that we don't have to waste time thinking about it in-game. That's why so many top players have trouble articulating exactly what's going on- the game is so fast it's hard to tell why you decided to do something sometimes, we've just played enough so that our instinct is usually correct more often than not.
That's not how Melee works. Strategies are not 1-time gimmicks. The shield pressure part in particular outlines every common option Sheik has and how to beat them. It doesn't show a foolproof way to never get shield pressured ever. Players who work hard to improve at this game will beat anything eventually, and will find this video very helpful even if they play Sheik themselves. However those people will get good regardless of whether I put content out or not. It's the lower level people and the ones who aren't willing to put a lot of effort in themselves that need something like this (no offense to those people, some simply want to put effort into other avenues and that's more than okay).
As a Sheik main, I completely agree with this video. Sheik is like a barebones character. She is good at what she does. But what she does isn't soaring above everyone else. Sheik is a good character. Wow all those scrub comments at the beginning. Like you said Sheik gets edgeguarded super hard once you just grab edge and make her recover onstage. Fox and Puff win the matchup, and IC might make the player switch off Sheik completely to go Fox or Peach.

I'm actually pleased to say I'm a 3. I've played the game since it first came out, but only started practicing tech skill and attending tournaments in the last 4 months. The hardest part for me is forcing myself to go to tournaments when I never win any of my games. At least I can four-stock my roommate now!
Peter Mueller I didn't know pro melee was a thing until this last winter. I still have a gcube in my treehouse and I started watching these vids so I could beat my friend. I'm a 2.5 but I'm having fun. Getting pretty decent at some falco skills, and Yoshi. I haven't done any tournaments but I can play with people who have been to some.
As a Sheik main for a year and a half, I'd definitely say Fox is her worst matchup. His movement options vastly outclass Sheik's in neutral, and his punishes are among the best. Falco is easier to get in on due to his low running speed, and definitely far easier to gimp. Neither Puff nor Icies pose much of a problem if you're willing to play patiently with needle, platform, and Bair camping.
I am probably located at the level 3 based off the cart. As someone who's gotten into Melee competitively just recently, but also coming from years of competitive Street Fighter background, I understand the tech, know the basics, but don't have enough practice to start getting really good at the game. I would like to, and these types of videos do help a lot. With that said, the one character I ALWAYS have trouble is Peach. As someone who plays Jigglypuff, I feel like I have to really space my aerials, and really be up on my punish game comparatively to Peach, which I feel has a lot easier time to punish and to put more percentage than that of Jiggs. It also seems like it's a lot harder to kill Peach due to her floatiness, and overall harder to edge guard because of her float. If anyone has any real good tips on how to learn how to beat Peach, or any other suggestions I might do to play Jiggs more effectively, please let me know. Sheik's worst matchup is ICs. I have a friend who I consistently beat with Sheik, whether he uses Sheik, Fox, or Falcon. Then one day he surprised me with a pocket ICs that did nothing except wavedash, chain grab, and wobble, and he won our best of 5 set. It wasn't my first time playing an ICs, but the FD and pokemon counterpicks got him 2 games, and I was exhausted for game 5 after 20 minutes of platform camping and spacing vs the dreaded wobble. Someday, my pocket peach will surprise his pocket ICs, and that will be a glorious day. :D
I love the knowledge this channel puts out Kira xD. It's actually comes from a place of genuine understanding. But for some reason, as a good player, I'm hesitant to give out knowledge, because it feels like it would create threats in players around me, or give insight into how I think about the game to rivals. Is this sort of thinking common in top players too you think? This could be why hungry box has never gone out of his way to create any guides or give any advice that wasn't basic whatsoever.

I'm very confused. Mew2king mains Sheik in Melee, Meta Knight in Brawl, and Cloud in Sm4sh. All of which are some of the most hated characters in their respective games. Yet the vast majority of players I see say that Mew2king is their favourite smasher. Am I missing something? Also, ICs is her worst matchup. I don't blame Mew2king switching to Peach whenever he encounters one.
He plays Sheik against Sheik, Marth (half the time) Falcon, Samus, and Ax...Pikachu, Peach against IC Fox against Hu....Jigglypuff Marth against Fox, Falco, Peach, Marth (half the time) Spacies + Peach are the ones combined most used here. He really mains Marth.
I was basing it off the fact that Mew2king used to say that Sheik was better than Marth and that Smash Wiki mentions Sheik first then Marth. So I didn't know that those facts are outdated. But still, Meta Knight and Cloud.
Besides sheik having a good edgeguarding game and tech chasing game vs fox. Fox has the tools to just body sheik. The lasers to make sheik approach, the shine that leads to upsmash/grab. The hard hitting vertical K/O moves, etc. being good at CC'ing with fox also helps a ton. Fox wins probably 6:4
How to beat Fox will be good for alot of players I feel. Wobbles said himself that if you don't know the Fox matchup then you're probably bad at Melee.
Would you have advices as how to beat sheik's full hop double aerial ? In this video you explain how doing the attack early or late leaves her open respectively late or early ; however doing an aerial both early and late makes it intricate to punish. I mean, maybe not for fox, falcon, marth, that are swift characters that will hit her between the aerials, but if you're - in my case - Peach I find it very difficult to counter double aerials outside of ASDI/CC ranges. Thanks ! Also, if the comments encourage you to do particular characters, I'd suggest the floaty midtiers that win mainly because of missing matchup knowledge from the opponent, aka ice climbers, luigis, samuses (icies arguably not being midtiers). I have the feeling there is some real flowchart to follow on where to be on the stage and what to do, but I can't figure it out well. These 3 are considered top annoyment for a reason and i'm sure people would appreciate some help. I mean, there are other characters that are commonly hated, but they're main specific. Peaches hate puffs, puffs hate foxes, fox hate falcos, falcos hate marths, marths, no, nearly eveyone under high level, hate sheik.

Marth is definitely 50/50 against Sheik, perhaps he has a slight advantage if he knows what he's doing and a slight disadvantage if he has no idea what he's doing. Her worst matchups are undoubtedly Fox, Falco, and ICs.
I`d be a 4 and 5 would be a stretch probably. As for Sheik`s worst matchup, I`d give it to Fox because she has no reliable answers to his ground game and a mistake on the punish game hurts her a lot more on the margin than it does for Fox. ICs is another candidate only because she loses a lot on having to rely on shield pressure mixups and forfeiting her grab game punishes.
I don't own SSBM anymore, and even when I played it regularly I never had the ability to go to tournaments. I also never invested much time into perfecting tech skill, since it's not particularly useful if you're mostly playing the game by yourself against CPU characters. That said, I know enough about the game to consistently outplay people at a casual skill level, so I'm probably equivalent to a level 1.5 to 2. In SSB4 I'm a level 4.
4.5 and Shiek's worst matchup is ICs. Like you said, It's not that hard to punish a tilt - and considering how easy shiek makes it to grab her, I have no choice but to put ICs. Puff is 2nd - and while Fox destroys her when he punishes, Sheik can punish Fox decently as well. Nothing zero to deathy but around 60%. If you're average then you will probably be techchased to death or juggled into a fair.
I like your videos, but I really wish you would show more demonstrations of puff's options in the little video clips you create. It's great to see what fox, falco, marth, cap falcon, samus, and pikachu can do.. but I wish you gave more love to the pink puffball!
I'd say fox, falco and marth are sheik's worst matchups. Marth has a great tool set to attack sheik because of the general placement of their hitboxes (marth swipes over/under much of sheik's toolset). Fox has the edge for speed in the air and generally is considered to have the widest range of tools (also Sfat is a sheik killing monster nowadays). Falco not only has much of Fox's toolset but his lasers have knockback and can usually combat sheik's needle game handedly.
Shiek is the only character whose entire design is about abusing people who don't know how to abuse CC, dashdancing, OoS options and edgeguarding. Literally the opposite of a directly engaging character. It's only interesting to watch the ones who keep everyone guessing, like Plup and Swedishdelight, or the ones that are just hilarious like Borp.
Sheik's worst matchup is ICs because her only mixup to CCing is grabbing which is made void by nana and popo being alive. No options in neutral, wobbling, sheik can still get chain grabbed from sopo, highly punishable recovery, etc. 85/15 matchup imo
can you guys help me? i've been trying to get into competitive melee for about a year and i used to main falco, marth, and gannon, but i haven't been playing as well as i used to with marth and gannon (and i now find them harder to use). i want to main someone new but the only characters that really stick with me are those 3, i tried roy but that didn't work. i kind of want to main a low teir. i usually like to create a wall of hit boxes that my opponent can't get out of and like to do very long and stylish combos, do you know any characters that would be good for that kind of play?
Last comments I said I was a 3, but, by this sheet, I'm a 4. Sheik's worst match-ups at high level: 1. ICs 2. Puff 3. Fox 4. Falco Everything else is either fairly even or in Sheik's favor. Sheik's worst match-ups at low-mid level: 1. ICs (that can wobble) 2. Puff 3. Falco 4. Fox 5. Marth Everything else should be in Sheik's favor unless the other players is better than you. If an ICs player cannot wobble, they lose to Sheik handedly, even on stages like FD.
Yep. Fox can rack up % so much faster than sheik, and generally kill early. He also beats sheik on the offense and defense. This is coming from a fox main.
Sheik is the easiest character in the game as far as execution goes. Her auto combo game is the most free by far, with virtually no possibility of making a mistake, which is why at mid to low level sheik beats marth, but obviously you still have to be good at the game to do well with her.
This is coming from someone who is just a spectator really, but from what I understand, Shiek is really easy compared to other top tiers for people who aren't very technical. Fox on the other hand is easier for anyone who is decently technical.

I'm in an awkward spot on the 1-10 scale, I've been practicing tech skill and stuff for a while now but since I don't have anyone to play with consistently and I can't figure out how to set up net play, I don't have the experience developed. I'm probably still around a 5 though just because of raw skill, and I can take games off of the best in my area so maybe knocking on the door of 6

Why has it taken 15 years for someone to go in depth about general matchup strategies without rambling on or getting way too specific?
Because what's too vague and too specific depends on who you're talking to and their skill level.

I'm very confused. Mew2king mains Sheik in Melee, Meta Knight in Brawl, and Cloud in Sm4sh. All of which are some of the most hated characters in their respective games. Yet the vast majority of players I see say that Mew2king is their favourite smasher. Am I missing something?
Also, ICs is her worst matchup. I don't blame Mew2king switching to Peach whenever he encounters one.
Lets be honest, Mew2King's REAL main in Melee is Marth.
He plays Sheik against Sheik, Marth (half the time) Falcon, Samus, and Ax...Pikachu,
Peach against IC
Fox against Hu....Jigglypuff
Marth against Fox, Falco, Peach, Marth (half the time)
Spacies + Peach are the ones combined most used here. He really mains Marth.
I was basing it off the fact that Mew2king used to say that Sheik was better than Marth and that Smash Wiki mentions Sheik first then Marth. So I didn't know that those facts are outdated. But still, Meta Knight and Cloud.

Sheik is not the most hated character in melee. That title belongs to either ice climbers or puff. Sheik is probably third though.

Besides sheik having a good edgeguarding game and tech chasing game vs fox. Fox has the tools to just body sheik. The lasers to make sheik approach, the shine that leads to upsmash/grab. The hard hitting vertical K/O moves, etc. being good at CC'ing with fox also helps a ton. Fox wins probably 6:4

Would you have advices as how to beat sheik's full hop double aerial ? In this video you explain how doing the attack early or late leaves her open respectively late or early ; however doing an aerial both early and late makes it intricate to punish. I mean, maybe not for fox, falcon, marth, that are swift characters that will hit her between the aerials, but if you're - in my case - Peach I find it very difficult to counter double aerials outside of ASDI/CC ranges.

Also, if the comments encourage you to do particular characters, I'd suggest the floaty midtiers that win mainly because of missing matchup knowledge from the opponent, aka ice climbers, luigis, samuses (icies arguably not being midtiers). I have the feeling there is some real flowchart to follow on where to be on the stage and what to do, but I can't figure it out well.
These 3 are considered top annoyment for a reason and i'm sure people would appreciate some help. I mean, there are other characters that are commonly hated, but they're main specific. Peaches hate puffs, puffs hate foxes, fox hate falcos, falcos hate marths, marths, no, nearly eveyone under high level, hate sheik.
You can hit her after the first aerial. if not, treat the 2nd one like a late aerial

Sheik's worst matchup imo is marth. Also, i dont understand why people complain about sheik. Yes, she is frequently played on the defense, but she can be entertaining to watch, play as, and even play against. For all of you who agree with me, watch as I trigger those who dont.

Marth is definitely 50/50 against Sheik, perhaps he has a slight advantage if he knows what he's doing and a slight disadvantage if he has no idea what he's doing.

I`d be a 4 and 5 would be a stretch probably.
As for Sheik`s worst matchup, I`d give it to Fox because she has no reliable answers to his ground game and a mistake on the punish game hurts her a lot more on the margin than it does for Fox. ICs is another candidate only because she loses a lot on having to rely on shield pressure mixups and forfeiting her grab game punishes.
I find that if you grab the Sheik and make sure you don't shield often and use down tilt with Marth she isn't allowed to be cancer

I don't own SSBM anymore, and even when I played it regularly I never had the ability to go to tournaments. I also never invested much time into perfecting tech skill, since it's not particularly useful if you're mostly playing the game by yourself against CPU characters. That said, I know enough about the game to consistently outplay people at a casual skill level, so I'm probably equivalent to a level 1.5 to 2. In SSB4 I'm a level 4.
4.5 and Shiek's worst matchup is ICs. Like you said, It's not that hard to punish a tilt - and considering how easy shiek makes it to grab her, I have no choice but to put ICs. Puff is 2nd - and while Fox destroys her when he punishes, Sheik can punish Fox decently as well. Nothing zero to deathy but around 60%. If you're average then you will probably be techchased to death or juggled into a fair.
I like your videos, but I really wish you would show more demonstrations of puff's options in the little video clips you create. It's great to see what fox, falco, marth, cap falcon, samus, and pikachu can do.. but I wish you gave more love to the pink puffball!
I'd say fox, falco and marth are sheik's worst matchups. Marth has a great tool set to attack sheik because of the general placement of their hitboxes (marth swipes over/under much of sheik's toolset). Fox has the edge for speed in the air and generally is considered to have the widest range of tools (also Sfat is a sheik killing monster nowadays). Falco not only has much of Fox's toolset but his lasers have knockback and can usually combat sheik's needle game handedly.
Shiek is the only character whose entire design is about abusing people who don't know how to abuse CC, dashdancing, OoS options and edgeguarding. Literally the opposite of a directly engaging character.
It's only interesting to watch the ones who keep everyone guessing, like Plup and Swedishdelight, or the ones that are just hilarious like Borp.
Sheik's worst matchup is ICs because her only mixup to CCing is grabbing which is made void by nana and popo being alive. No options in neutral, wobbling, sheik can still get chain grabbed from sopo, highly punishable recovery, etc. 85/15 matchup imo
can you guys help me? i've been trying to get into competitive melee for about a year and i used to main falco, marth, and gannon, but i haven't been playing as well as i used to with marth and gannon (and i now find them harder to use). i want to main someone new but the only characters that really stick with me are those 3, i tried roy but that didn't work. i kind of want to main a low teir. i usually like to create a wall of hit boxes that my opponent can't get out of and like to do very long and stylish combos, do you know any characters that would be good for that kind of play?

Everything else should be in Sheik's favor unless the other players is better than you. If an ICs player cannot wobble, they lose to Sheik handedly, even on stages like FD.

Yep. Fox can rack up % so much faster than sheik, and generally kill early. He also beats sheik on the offense and defense. This is coming from a fox main.

Sheik is the easiest character in the game as far as execution goes. Her auto combo game is the most free by far, with virtually no possibility of making a mistake, which is why at mid to low level sheik beats marth, but obviously you still have to be good at the game to do well with her.
This is coming from someone who is just a spectator really, but from what I understand, Shiek is really easy compared to other top tiers for people who aren't very technical. Fox on the other hand is easier for anyone who is decently technical.

Sheik's worst MU in my opinion is Fox followed by ICs and Falco. To me they are all difficult matchups - against spacies it's hard to deal with their crazy pressure, and ICs kinda body sheik unless you can avoid grab.

Worst MU for Sheik is probably ICs. Good CC to stop almost all of her usual pressure and her grab game is made pretty much less then useless.
