Richard Corben and his wife Donna were really nice to me in our one-day visit to his house. I'd been writing to him since 1973, thanks to Alex Toth. He was humble and a gentleman. I saw Corben's first comic over 20 years ago, it was a fragment of the Mutant World, published in the Polish comic book magazine Komiks-Fantastyka. We didn't have too many Western comics in Poland at that time. Corben's comic was something new, completely addictive, these colors and the post-apocalyptic world full of mutated creatures, and a beautiful woman - what more could you want? Today we have other of his comics on our market, but I still remember and miss his flagship works that I had to bring from afar. I collected Heavy Metal, which included both Den and New Tales of the Arabian Nights. At the moment I got the new French edition of Mutant World and I'm waiting for Murky World. It's a sad day for the world of comics, but I just realize how much he left behind and how great a creator he was. These are timeless works that will last for many generations and will be an inspiration for them.

I did not know he had died, Damian.

This sucks. I discovered Richard Corben's work in his underground comics days. He was my inspiration to take up the airbrush. It is a shame his work was not more widely known, but I'm pretty sure his perfectionism and unique working style made it impossible for him to produce as much work as other comics masters. RIP.

I’m sure that slowed him down, but he still has an impressive body of work over a fifty year + timespan...the weird thing is that, at least in North America, none of it is in print while most other artists are collected over and over again in the growing book market...
