‘An Unwelcome Guest’ Lyrics
---------------------------------------
Oh, terrifying visitor
You're giving me the ongoing sensation
Of being a sleep paralysis prisoner
With gruesome hallucinations
But it's the middle of the day
And I am wide awake
Oh, petrifying visitor
Your weight is starting to ache
Oh, there's a goblin sitting on my chest
An unwelcome guest that never left
Oh, there's a goblin sitting on my chest
Taking away my breath
Oh, mischievous creature
Staring me in the eyes
Do you enjoy my struggle?
The fear I feel inside?
To others, you remain unseen
While I'm stuck in the in-between
An endless state of hypnagogia
A dream where I cannot scream
Oh, there's a goblin sitting on my chest
An unwelcome guest that never left
Oh, there's a goblin sitting on my chest
Taking away, taking away my breath
All the things that I would do
And all the places I would go
Without this burden weighing on my torso
All the things that I would do
And all the places I would go
Without this burden weighing on my torso
Oh, there's a goblin sitting on my chest
An unwelcome guest that never left
Oh, there's a goblin sitting on my chest
That's taking away my breath
Only one thing is sure, you will never be an unwelcome guest in our youtube notifications 😂🖤
Sleep paralysis is such a horrible condition. The depiction is really accurate. Big love to Blackbriar and their amazing music
it's not necessarily just about sleep paralysis, i interpreted it as using the permanent wide awake sleep paralysis as a clear metaphor to describe depression, but i guess there can be different readings depending of the person.
@@crisvelundertale2159 It's the magic of music :) It speaks to everyone in a different way depending on one's experiences in life. Everyone finds their own meaning in each song and it shows how different everybody is. That's what's so special about music: it speaks to everyone, especially when the lyrics are well written
JUST IN TIME FOR MY D&D TABLE. This is a BANGER album.
What I loved about the lyrics : As I understand it, Zora's original idea was to share what it feels like (inside) to undergo some panic attack. What I really love is the focus on the inside and not trying to enumerate external causes. In my opinion, there are plenty of bands who would deal with the subject by focusing on the most brutal causes of panic possible (but only because violence is bankable). And the writing is as usual really poetic and completely dark and "fairytale-ish".
What I love about the music : the intro (that comes back before last chorus) at 0:10 is excellent and is (to me) the external cause of the panic attack, I feel the vibe of an event that's beyond us. Then I feel the music until the chorus being still stressful but a little behind Zora delivering the lyrics. Then I love that it intensifies in the beautiful choruses.
The vocals in the "ohs" are magic at the beginning (certainly depicting the panic inside coming like a sleep paralysis) and also at 3:09. But during the latter, I don't recognise Zora on the backing vocals... René? Sorry to insist, but... is it you??? (or am I just completely missing the point)
You're the first to notice, it is indeed René in the backing vocals, haha! And also Joost, our producer! Thank you for your beautiful words ❤️
@@blackbriarmusic wow! It's amazing 🤩👍 (good job, guys!!) thank you so much!
Man this is so interesting to hear- I deal with fairly chronic sleep paralysis/night terror episodes and I’ve never actually heard them described by someone else.
How do you even pick a favourite Blackbriar song?!?🔥🖤🔥🌹
At random! ...And it's always the good one!
I suffer from panic attacks when going to see live music, so I only go if I really like the band and seeing them is worth the potential horror of multiple panic attacks. You guys are definitely worth it, and I hope you play this song in Wolverhampton on 01 Nov so I can feel as one with my panic disorder for 4 minutes ❤😄
This whole album is amazing! Its like diving in to a world of imagination ❤
I'm obsessed with the intro... The guitar, the wailing... A beautiful harmony as always. Thanks for the bless to my ears!
I wanna live in blackbriars dark fairytails
I'll join the queue.
Play Skyrim and go live in Riften
Ahhh, sleep paralysis, my favorite :D
This is such a unique song, and it's so fascinating to hear what hypnagogic hallucinations are like from another perspective. I loved how you described it on Patreon as well! I also think this could be seen as struggling to let go of someone from the past who's memory keeps coming back to haunt you.
Sometimes, I listen to songs and i'm reminded of paintings, this one reminds me of "The Nightmare" by Henry Fuseli! I wonder if it was part of the inspiration...
Wow, you guys perfectly described what a panic attack feels like. Believe me, I know.
Curious, i interpret it as using the permanent wide awake sleep paralysis as a clear metaphor to describe depression, but i guess there can be different readings depending of the person
@@crisvelundertale2159 i interperate it as sleep paralysis too, or some mental disorder that causes illusions
Thank you so much, it means a lot. Sometimes panic can strike you, feeling petrified, just as having a sleep paralysis experience. 🖤
@@blackbriarmusicyou guys are so amazing and so talented. I follow you since the beginning, I hope to see you live someday in Italy 🤘🏻🖤
Definitely hit the nail on the head, Blackbriar. I hadn't thought of it in these terms, but the song definitely describes the anxiety/intrusive thoughts/flashbacks of PTSD. I don't know how you did, but I swear it's like you got into my head and put thoughts that couldn't quite form into words. Thank you.
I think it's interesting how the song seems to fit so many things to so many people.
I LOVE U AND YOUR FRIENDS! YOU ARE MY FAV ARTIST ZORA 😭❤✨
