The thing to me that helps sell me on this camera that you didn't mention Steve is the leaf shutter lens. It's like a mini-medium format camera with better ISO. The fact you can shoot it at f/2.8 at 1/1250, f/4 at 1/1600 and f/5.6 at 1/2000!!! This with strobes in daylight would do very nicely with it's high image quality sensor.

Steve is the most open minded of all the internet reviewers. This is a great review for those of us that love the foveon sensor, he really understands the beauty of these cameras and their limitations.

I am quite sure it is better than M9...

Thank you, I have the DP3 Merrill which seems to focus at a usable speed, so I am enjoying it, but holding it is not as nice you say that is. I am also in love with the image quality.

I wish sigma make that lens 12mm or14mm f4 for landscape shoot and I will be so happy

I love these things. I mean for the flaws, the slower auto focus the lack of certain features. the image quality is so good. I remember shooting the old DP2, yup the non merill, a picture of the lack and being able to see the shape of bird in a few pixels. Not joking.
But yeah they are so .. depending upon specific use.

will foveon cameras ever become more flexible or is it really inherent to the product? - can it be solved?

I have a sigma SD1 - which, in certain conditions, is amazing - but still, it makes me long for a nikon 4Ds sometimes (which is a cut in the MP department)

+Filip Firlefijn would you suggest this over the SD1?

I got to shoot this camera for a week and had a solid love/hate with it. The sensor created an odd greenish hue when shooting in open light. but the images it produced were sharp and on point! As for the look and feel it was actually very comfortable and quite easy to use on the fly. I have an album on flickr if anyone is interested in some sample images here www.flickr.com/photos/111021620@N03/sets/72157647973771515/

Sigma is keeping this great sensor in the dim light with limiting it to buyers who have multiple cameras and deep pockets. This is not a camera for the photographer looking for tool to cover a nice range of shooting conditions. In fact DP forces to purchase lenses just for swapping out focal lengths. How is this comapred to the SD1 Meryl? If you had the extra $1000, I would put that to a nice lens for my existing system. This is for MF owners that want to think they are shooting MF in a compact size. I shoot MF, but this is just a conversation peace with limited abilities.

The dynamic range is very low.

What I hate the most is that stupid lens cap... it's so tiny to grapple with two fingers, they use the same on the new art series for M43 and NEX. The ones they made before were much better and smaller as well.

So, I think we all want a Foveon sensor in a camera not built by Sigma. But as Sigma own the company, don't hold your breath.

Well, the best thing that can be said about Sigma's cameras is, *Thank god they make some decent lenses!"*

If the lens sticks out so much,,,,why not have the grip stick out on the same side???
There is no reason it needs to be that long either!!!
    Super Poor Design!
