This song is beautiful, genius. I love highly technical songs like this, with tons of meter changes. Dunno why. But the way they incorporated it into the lyrics is genius. Or...is it more like they made a song around the lyrics? I can't tell, and I can't tell which is more impressive. I especially liked "negative 3/4 time" to play the song backwards and reverse time. If only music worked that way.
Soflan is a reference to "SOFT LANDING ON THE BODY" - a song from beatmania IIDX 2nd Style, which chart would out of the blue at least double its scroll speed (possibly because the game handled 7/8 signature by doubling the speed). Nowadays it's used to refer to any sudden BPM changes.
From a music theory standpoint g a 0/0 time signature exists. Its often refered to as freetime, Its either notes as a Zero or an X in the time signature area or mid song with a double thin bar line to say that there is a change, these symbols span between the 2nd and 4th line on the staff. And Negative Time Signatures are played the same as positive ones but they can be used in music, except with obvious difference is that these dont occur unless in recording where its played back backwards. I have seen both these in probably 0.1% of the songs sheet music I have read. It's just as often to find music written with notes that use far beyond 64th notes (4bars / flags) reach to 128ths, 256ths, 512ths, and even 1024th / 2048th notes. These instances are extremely rare in realm of the music scene but arent that they dont exist.
That was sincerely magnificent. As a classically trained musician that enjoys jpop, I didn't see this genre being made, but I find it absolutely mesmerizing. That was a journey, and I'm so happy you got to take me on it.
The reluctant Plastic Guitar Weeb is the title I'm giving him as he endured playing this song, for Wrex he is Dead Laughter at the sudden obscurity of the song
Man, due to how complex and sporadic this piece of music is, I would really like to try to learn and understand it as a challenge to improve my musical ability. Unfortunately, I’ve never wanted to kill myself so badly, so quickly in my entire fucking life.
If it makes you feel any better, I was in my high school's jazz band. Played bass, myself... we did some pretty advanced shit. Even with that experience, I didn't recognize half those fucking time signatures
Camellia is the most chaotic musician I know of. And we all know of Helvian, Bandipat, PhonicBoom... Pretty much anyone with access to memes and a talent for music.
Yeah, hyperactive energetic psycho insane fun, but definitely not something you want to listen to more than once a year. I bet this song absolutely killed some people's love for music during it's production.
For those curious, the name comes from a beatmania iidx song called "Soft Landing on the Body", a song that has jarring scrolling changes due to... I think a glitch?
Things were happening so fast it got hard to tell what was going on, but the bit starting at 7:15 where they cycle through all the modes in order was really funny
now consider that many japanese rhythm games will have the notes come at you based on the bpm and time signature of the song and imagine playing this without constant scrolling speed
Man, this sounds like a pain in the ass to make, kudos to Camellia I didnt understand anything at all to be honest, how did Camellia even get from ExIt From The Earth's Atomosphere to this

I didn't even notice the FAXX reference. I saw the 999 Speed Star reference along with weaving in a bunch of Camellia's other song names into it like banging burst, feels Seasickness, and shockwave syndrome
the dyscon, bangin, and sss are my own references that i could totally get away with because of how the lyrics were The Speed Star and FAXX references are real though!

An awesome use of word painting and the niche concept of negative time signatures
btw, I think you should watch Adam Neely's video about the concept of a "negative" time signature, it's really interesting
More specifically, it doubles from 159 to 318 with no warning, then slams back down to 79.5 for a few measures before finishing back at 159.
