I don't want to jinx it, but getting a point against Chile will PROBABLY move Canada forward... if Peru beats Argentina, then Peru would move on based on goal differential. And remember, Argentina are going to rest their first string players for the quarter final.
Canada better be prepared for a rough, very physical game, hard tackles all around. Keep your cool and don't get drawn into a brawl, try and play football.
The forecast is 27 C (80 F) @ 8:00 pm on Saturday. It will be very humid; but it is still considerably better than Kansas.. Marsch never has his teams purposely sit back & defend. He is attack minded.
Hopefully Kone's club situation being settled will calm him down a bit. Feel like he'll need to be his usual self again for Canada to get a result here. Such a huge drop off from him to the other options in midfield
If marsch goes with the lineup you think he will one tweak id like to see is lining up in more of a 5-3-2 when in defense. Buchanan and Davies as wingbacks with miller tucking in to help clog up the midfield.
Canada needs to play in the a 4-4-2 as if it was playing Argentina or France. Place Millar back on his strong wing with Davies and Tachonon the other side...Shaff can come on as a early super sub
Now that ive taken a couple days to step back and think about it, I'm not as worried about the match. I feel like both teams has similar first two games just the order was reversed. If we had a sloppy win against Peru and then a performance against Argentina (like Chile but without the win) I think everyone would have a different opinion. But end of the day, you're right. This is going to be a very hard game that I'm not overly confident about but I think we can get it done. We HAVE to score first. I don't see them realistically scoring two if we defend after a goal but I also cant see us holding on to the match 0-0 with all the experience Chile have.
As a Chilean, I must say Canada has improved a lot in soccer over the past few years. It will be a good match out there today if the weather conditions allow it.
Chilean here. If Canada waits to attack in the second half with fast counterattacks, you guys can win. Chile will start strong for sure, like against Peru, but they will get tired in the second half. Also, Gareca doesn’t like to make substitutions to avoid disrupting the team. It will be a great game
Canada needs to win or we will get screwed because Argentina could start their bench against peru and loose so then its a tie breaker which is very risky for us
What should WE expect? Nothing less than "bloodsport" against Chile... We should expect Chile players to employ the usual dark arts tactics of rolling on the ground 5 times after falling and acting like they've been shot... We should expect more head butting, elbows, jersey pulling... I think Saturday's engagement with Chile is going to be an intense match. We're gonna have to rely on our substitutions to carry us to the end of the game because of the heat. We're gonna need possibly 16 guys to get us through that game on Saturday because of that heat (possibly, 15 at least). And for us supporters, this game is going to be everything we want to suppor and invest ourselves into emotionally because we have a chance (I like our odds) to advance in this prestigious tournament. Venezuela did it against Mexico last night. And we are gonna do it against Chile... Talk to y'all on Sunday morning to discuss the knock out round- and I believe Canada will be apart of it. Let's go Canada!
Canada has a chance if they play to win but Chile will be coming with everything to book their spot. Chile will be physical but have a higher football IQ than Peru. Whatever happens, hope we win and if we don’t, be much more solid than against Peru
This should be the starting XI. Millar - David - Schaff Davies - Stacks -Kone - Bucky Cornelius - Miller- Johnston Just my opinion. I still prefer Miller's overall defensive game over Bombito. 3-4-3 of 5-2-3 I think would work so much better for the squad that we have. I was pleased when Jesse switched up the formation in the second half against Peru. I think he should try it for a full 90 minutes.
This is by no way Chile's best 11. There are players missing Felipe Loyola, the likes of Javier Altamirano, Thomas Galdames, Matias Marin who all play in Argentina then you have Jordy Thompson who plays in Russia plus leaving Vidal out who is an instrumental leader was downright crazy 🤯🤔
Yeah but he still very young & very talented not saying he deserves a place on the team now. He just needs to continue to work hard & keep improving. Time will tell, everybody makes mistakes including you! 🥴🤫🙃🇦🇺🇨🇱🇹🇭💪😎
The whole “Shaff sits on the bench so he can come on vs tired legs” angle is so stupid. You are at a tournament trying to compete and move on to the next round, every point is valuable so you should play your best players from the start. Shaff is 10x the player Millar is, time to have him on from the start.
You are undervaluing Millar and your assessment that Shaff is 10x the player Millar is shows extreme ignorance or exaggeration on your part. I'm not trying to splash water on your over exuberance for him, but let's bring some reasonability into the discussion. Shaffelburg has only played 196 minutes for Canada over 11 games and has never started. Sure, Shaff has exceeded expectations, fits in well under Marsch's system and is an exciting player. But we've only seen him enter the game against tired legs which has played to his strengths of being a north / south player with speed and tenacity. A great coach sets individuals up to succeed and take advantage of their strengths. It really doesn't make any sense to give Shaffelburg his first start in such an important game. That can be saved for the US or Mexico later this summer. And, at this point it makes more sense to have Millar start with Shaff subbing in than vice versa.
@@mccullochmike Of course I am exaggerating. But watching these games Millar is not doing anything for the team in my opinion, he may as well not be on the pitch and his absence won't be noted. This leads to Davies trying to do too much down the wing by himself, he needs to be associated with another attacking threat down the wing and Shaff is that player that can be direct and create spaces for Davies up top. In a crucial game, like you stated, Canada will need to bring the game to Chile from the start because they are a team for the taking if Canada plays their cards right.
The match is 90 minutes. If you think your starting 11 can play the whole 90 minutes and be stronger than anyone else coming off the bench, sure, but this squad NEEDS strong subs coming in. It is simply part of the game. It's not like we're only making subs if somebody is doing something wrong. Shaff hasn't started for Canada, so you have no idea whatsoever what he will be like. You do know what he brings as a power sub. It's not just about trying to score late, it's about having a threat on the field that Chile has to worry about. It doesn't do any good to score a goal early if we can't see out the last 1/4 of the match. It's a 90 mins competition and the use of subs is essential to intelligent game management. Shaff is a brilliant sub. Nobody else comes even close.
Canada didn't even sit back and defend against Argentina, the champions, why would they sit back and defend against Chile? What Canada has shown this Copa America is that they always go for the win, they don't play not to lose, they play to win!
I’m in agreement with some of the comments that Argentina will rest players but I still think they have a better team than Peru. I could be wrong but I think Canada was a better team under John herdman
You can't compare Herdman who had 4 years to work with the national team to Marsch who's only had 4 games and 1 month working with these guys. If anything he's done quite good in terms of results outside of the Netherlands game for a guy who only came in 1 month into the national team
Chile will be ready, and probably borderline violent at times. I wouldnt be surprised if Chile get a red card by 1st half , Canada plays 11 to 10, then grinds out a 0-0 draw.Thats an optimistic outcome, but will probably get us through which is massive.
As an argentine living in Canada, i wish Canada goes through, but i think Canada is to naïf vs Chile being a very experienced team, they perform well under pressure. Anything may happen. Canada needs to play more tactical to get to the next level.
Will Canada qualify for the quarterfinals?
I think they will win 2-1
Yes
Im saying yes after a 0-0 result
Over/under on red cards against Peru vs Argentina?
Here’s hoping, there!!! 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
These guys are humans. Playing in that heat will affect the game! We should be happy they grinded out 3 points
They are in the USA. Where are you in Canada?
Good luck guys, Mexico blew it last night and I got a feeling my USA might do the same so we may need you to represent for CONCACAF once again!
I agree. Canada needs to play this game like it’s their only game. Absolutely do not sit back and defend.
I don't want to jinx it, but getting a point against Chile will PROBABLY move Canada forward... if Peru beats Argentina, then Peru would move on based on goal differential. And remember, Argentina are going to rest their first string players for the quarter final.

Both Kone and Buchanan really need to get things together and show up like they can.

0- 0 or chile score
@@gamezone-o4g¡nope, 🇨🇦 will score, there mate!! 😈
haha, and 'of course' Ritchie on Yellow :D
We're Canadian so might as well approch this question with hockey lingo: should Shaff be first line opener or second line closer?
I agree with your view on Shaff. Bring him on at the half for whoever isn’t performing
But he is better on the left side.
What most don’t know about Chile is that they play better against non-CONMEBOL teams. Look for a lot of scoring in this one with Chile on top.
Shaff has to start
anything can happen, but I like Canada's chances for a 1-0 win or a tie 0-0 or 1-1

Chile has never been the type of team to roll on the ground. They’re known to play tough and not pussyfoot.
Obviously Gord doesn't know shit about football. Rolling on the ground not their style.
