What the difference between dialysis nurse and dialysis technician
Lots of money
In the USA a dialysis nurse is a registered nurse who has additional training in dialysis. Dialysis technicians or Certified Hemodialysis Technicians (CHTs) have specialized training in administering, monitoring, and caring for dialysis patients. The RN has more responsibilities. The RN supervises the technicians. In the dialysis clinic that I worked in for 20 years, each RN supervised 4 CHTs. The manager of the clinic is an RN. The RNs make sure that the treatment is carried out safely and per the doctor's orders. The RN administers antibiotics, Epogen, Vaccines, and other medications to the patients. In many clinics the CHT cannot connect the patient to the hemodialysis machine until the RN first assess the patient. The RN also reviews laboratory values, patient home medications, and diet with patient. A nutritionist also educates the patients regarding their diet. The RN is the one who will call the doctor if necessary.
