Andrea, this is such a timely, gorgeous video! My husband & I have been putting more effort into our yard than ever before & as you know projects can be expensive. Thank you for the budget friendly ideas & taking the time to share!
Love this! Thanks for sharing how to get creative when on a budget. Always good to check for free stuff on Facebook marketplace, too and I love trades! A friend of mine and I are always trading plants, pots, anything free that I see that I don’t have a place for I always grab for a friend to share or do a DIY on it, sell it and get what l want. ❤❤❤ You have a beautiful yard and home! 🤩
I just learned this trick! Buy a jug of mulch glue to spray your pea gravel with. (If you haven't already.) It will keep your pea gravel under control and also helps with weed control! Love your walkway idea.
Don't beat yourself up over your choice of landscape fabric. Cheap or expensive, weeds grown ON TOP of the landscape fabric, not much one can do. Love your home, your yard, everything.
The only thing that I ever used that succeeded blocking weeds was a discarded carpet. Even then, as dirt blows into your yard and ends up in any area that you 'weed block', the weeds are going to grow. They're just easier to remove early on before the roots entangle themselves in whatever surface you choose.
Hello, I saw the title and said to myself..."let me watch to see if I can get any ideas"...I have to say I was more inspired by how God provided materials through your church and church members as well as wisdom through your dad. As I was watching your son walking around the flower beds on the rocks I had a HUGE Smile on my face, because I pictured the image of walking on streets of gold in Heaven. Your backyard is a heavenly scene. Thank you so much for sharing. Blessings.
I love repurposed items… Love the sidewalk.. Weeds are going to grow… I use vinegar, dawn, salt and it works great on my weeds in my sidewalk.. Works and no harmful chemicals… Love all your ideas.. So natural..
Great job‼♥️🇹🇹 Tip.. corrugated cardboard is the best thing for weed blocking. And its biodegradable. Got the tip from that show from HGTV" Backyard crashers " show. It works!👍🏾
I'm so grateful for this video. It offered a range of projects that were not only easy to execute but also light on the wallet. The presenter's enthusiasm and clear explanations made the entire experience enjoyable, and I'm proud of the transformations I achieved in my outdoor area.
That walkway is perfect! What we have found to work better than landscape fabric is laying down newspaper, and soaking it. We did this under mulch & still no weeds 5 years later!
Field rocks that size are EXPENSIVE! Good on you folks with your DIY resources. I’d love a river rock bed, pretty. Dad is right about the gutters, sigh. Congrats on everything!
You can't beat free. I've been watching for free rocks for over a year to complete a project in the backyard. You guys got super lucky with all of that free wood and rocks! It's beautiful!
@@Donna-vh5ym Very sweet of you to offer. I'm on the central coast in California and am happy to announce that I finally scored some free river rocks. We were able to finish our water feature corner and it looks awesome!!
I have wanted guttering on my house for 34 years. Forget it. I am doing the stone dry creek bed now I collect as much water I can with water troughs for my animals and flowers, but now I can do both! Even a mix of cement and stone will work. Thanks! 😊
This hear you loud and clear on the reuse, reclaim and recycle. We have many projects like that at our home. It is so gratifying to do something that others think you had someone else do for you.
I love to watch your videos! We are so nice and helpful. I like your DIY projects which inspire me to do mine. I like every your projects because they are low cost and it’s important for me. Im retired and my income so tight so seeing that you can do it something extraordinarily without spending a lot of money brings me hope. I’m in new house for last three summers and every year I’m trying to add something new. Thank you!

The easy-to-follow instructions and cost-effective materials made these projects accessible to anyone looking to spruce up their outdoor area. This is the first time I've seen your little boys. They're adorable. I hope they will all be as hard-working as your husband is. I love seeing your videos. We're building a cottage in our backyard to use as a guest house for our children and grandchildren. Your flowers and ideas inspire me and I love seeing that you also love cottage style.
You two did a magnificent job on your yard. I love your walkway, the rock planter box and your bench. It all looks so beautiful and cottagey (if that's a word) lol. It's so warming and inviting looking. You children are precious. You mentioned adding roses one day. I'm 73 years old and always had a pretty yard, but until 7 years ago I never had good results with roses. I bought 8 double knock out roses and planted them. I've never had one problem with them. They are absolutely gorgeous from late spring all the way to Thanksgiving. I use osmocote - time release fertilizer (opposite of what they recommend, but I've used it for years and years and never had it fail me on any plants or my vegetable garden. I fertilize in spring then late fall. Don't buy your roses from home depot or lowes. Those are not the same as one's that come from a nurseries, I learned my lesson! There's several listed online. I planted the 2 gallon pots and they grew the first year to 3 feet tall. They're now about 4 feet, but won't get any taller. Be sure and leave like 3 to 4 feet between them when you plant them because they really bush out and will grow together. I hope I haven't gone on for too long. I know you're trying to get your yard complete and believe me, roses are the most beautiful plants in a cottage type garden like yours. That's what I have. Keep up the great work and start growing some roses this year. The Double Knock Outs will not disappoint you. God Bless you and your family. Linda from Texas.
I just love how you find things to enhance your pretty home. I watch other channels that do things in their home that is too expensive for our budget. Your ideas are simple and pretty. Also i enjoy finding special things at rummage sales to decorate my home with. I even find pretties at our local Goodwill. thanks for taking us on a tour!!
We have a french drain in our basement. 2" wide x 3" deep around the perimiter. Also have a sump pump. We have never had an issue with water in the basement, but others in the neighbourhood have.
When a french drain is used inside a home, it runs the perimeter of the basement and is on an angle leading to a corner of the basement. At that corner, the water has to go somewhere, hence a sump pump to get the water out of the basement and to the outside.

Love everything you’ve done in your yard. You have created such a natural feel to your space and it looks so calming to me. Reminds me of how yards used to be not the sterile look everyone has today..
Old comment but I agree. Too much lawn, too perfect with edging, way too much commercial looking ground coverings, chemical weed killers that leech into drinking water. The list goes on. I love messy gardens-more plants than lawn and imperfection. 🥰
The dry creek bed idea is a much more attractive idea for those of us in fire-prone areas that need to keep organic material away from our foundation than the gravel most people use. Very nice! (and we have lots of rocks in our area!)
that trench idea with the field stone was amazing. Made it soo much better that you got it for free. such a good example of a community helping each other out.

O love rocks and stones. My late husband and I collected over 40 yrs of marriage traveling across the USA camping. I will now make a garden ( fake) we’ll structure with my precious stones. My neighbor gave me his wood from his old fence. So many uses. Love your creative ideas and on my budget, doable. ❤️❤️
Wow excellent idea, I’ll have to remember to call an excavating co. or pool co. for dirt or even rocks. Beautiful, everything looks beautiful, love the wood walkway and repurposed rocks around as a border. Thank you
Your truly blessed to be able to live in such a beautiful house. There is a lot of satisfaction in doing a lot of your projects yourself. I’ve always believed that the outside of your home should be just as beautiful as the inside. And yours is both. Oh my, I would have me a bench around the English garden and just sit a while and enjoy the beauty. I love how you have kept to your purple, pinks and white theme. That makes a beautiful statement. Have a wonderful day!
I loved all the projects! I esp loved the walkway made from wood from yr church. I can't help but think of the many blessings and love and fellowship those treads have conveyed over the years.
What a blessing to be able to use those stones. I've been trying to gather such stones here where I live & refurbished is WAY more $$$$ than new material. Beautiful projects though & the stone drain away from the house is truly inspired. God bless
Your outdoors is absolutely beautiful. How I would love to have a garden like yours. Unfortunately, I live in a part of a state where they place us on water restrictions . I've added some plants but I hit my limit since we do have grass, which I want to keep green. So it gets most of the water. Enjoy!
Your garden is as beautiful as you... wish I could find rocks and when one does at nurseries they are expensive where I live :( , rocks gives a garden that special touch. I do recycle as much as it’s posible. Awesome job young lady. Stay blessed and safe.
Instead of garden fabric, you could fill between the wood with super low ground cover plantings, which would probably look really cute, and eventually would fill in completely. The walkway looks so sweet and welcoming :)
Thankyou for the inspiration its an hour and forty minutes since I watched your vlog. In that time I have finished the last coat of paint in one half of my kitchen. Keep vloging you do make a difference to our lives. May I say also you are beautiful both on the outside and within xx
Your projects have added so much attention to detail. I love it and I am dreaming up what my future home/ backyard will look like. Everything looks so pretty in your garden!
I live in Spokane, and most of the homes here have rock around them for snow and rain drainage. Not many of the homes here have gutters for the same reasons as you. We also have what’s called rain ladders, which is kind of like a chain with metal rain, catchers, i.e. mine has 3” wide upside down umbrellas. It protects your landscaping or rocks from the rain beating down so hard. This is the first video of yours that I have seen. I’m a new subscriber… I love what you’ve done! ❤
You have the perfect beautiful yard..I looove rock and exactly what I wanna do..great idea for the basement water issue..I have two places that water comes in during heavy rains.maybe if I do this out back it’ll stop it!!..great job!!
So agree with no gutters. I had them installed back in 2000 .. aside from it being a pain to constantly clean them out .. i didn’t realize the fascia board is made out of a pressed resin-type material .. every screw penetration allowed water to penetrate .. all the fascia boards rotted (and some soffit) .. removed the gutter but still working on replacing fascia.
Such a smart way to prevent your basement from moisture! I love the rocks too & your beautiful flowers!!! I can’t wait to see your yard when it’s finished!!!
Your home and backyard have such a homey feeling. I love the reclaimed wood walkway. The stone and river rock boulders are amazing. I live in Miami, FL. and I turned my gardens into succulent and cactus with river rocks because of our year round heat. You were lucky to get all those large boulders for free. They cost me about $20.00 for the large boulders each..🖤🌿☑️♡🤍♡👏🏻🌿🖤
The fieldstone looks beautiful with the style of your home. Love the walkway too. I love it all. We have done our share of loading and unloading trucksfull of stones and rocks to use on our landscaping. We collected flat stones over the years until we had enough to make some pathways. It’s so gratifying to beautify one’s home with DIY and inexpensively.
This was a well planned video, I have been getting outside and working in my flowers and yard. So much inspiration and ideas in my head that I can use. Thank you and have a blessed week.
Oh, Andrea, everything is so exquisitely Beautiful! Always a sigh of relaxation, loving enjoyment for my eyes comes over me, when we're invited to your home:). Every detail lends such a genuine atmosphere of loveliness, emphasizing the history of your beautiful home! How God has blessed you with solutions for weather related issues, as well as materials to enhance your home:)!! I've wanted to comment about your shed doors in the past, but became too sappy to type! Your doors are identical to the ones on my G'ma and G'pa's garage:)!!! I was completely gobsmacked when I first saw them and still melt each time I see your grounds! I am so thrilled that a precious young couple has been blessed and entrusted to care for the shed and carriage doors now intact:)!! Thank you so much for sharing your heart and home with us - always so look forward to your posts, Sweetie pie! Sending hugs from a distance, xo
Really good diy 💚the cottage looks really makes THE house a HOME .i love that you used materials that where where free but not haveing them put in THE dump.
Put white vinegar in your garden sprayer...add a good squeeze of Dawn then spray the weeds on a hot, sunny morning. By evening you'll have dead weeds that you can easily pull...if they dont pull easily, soak them down again. Typically I spray the top of the root really well even pushing down into the soil, crack or rocks. Beautifully done! Love your place!!
Andrea, this is such a timely, gorgeous video! My husband & I have been putting more effort into our yard than ever before & as you know projects can be expensive. Thank you for the budget friendly ideas & taking the time to share!

Awe! Those little boys playing with garden. Lovely family
I just learned this trick! Buy a jug of mulch glue to spray your pea gravel with. (If you haven't already.) It will keep your pea gravel under control and also helps with weed control! Love your walkway idea.
Interesting… good idea, & what is mulch glue spray originally for?
Don't beat yourself up over your choice of landscape fabric. Cheap or expensive, weeds grown ON TOP of the landscape fabric, not much one can do. Love your home, your yard, everything.

Cardboard works great! I got the idea from our local botanical garden
The only thing that I ever used that succeeded blocking weeds was a discarded carpet. Even then, as dirt blows into your yard and ends up in any area that you 'weed block', the weeds are going to grow. They're just easier to remove early on before the roots entangle themselves in whatever surface you choose.

That sounds like a perfect idea! Once sprayed and the weeds die, do they come out of the ground easily?
@@stephaniecrothers8482 they dry up and die within a couple of days.. Once you get things cleaned up then spray to keep everything at bay..
Thanks so much!!
Great job‼♥️🇹🇹
Tip.. corrugated cardboard is the best thing for weed blocking. And its biodegradable.
Got the tip from that show from HGTV" Backyard crashers " show. It works!👍🏾
I keep reading cardboard is a great alternative? But does it attract roaches?😬
Card boards are not worked, still have grass grow through little faster than wood mulch
Cardboard works but attracts carpenter ants.

Look into the term " French Drain"...it's how we in Ireland deal with keeping water away from.a house....and we get a lot of rain
We have a french drain in our basement. 2" wide x 3" deep around the perimiter. Also have a sump pump. We have never had an issue with water in the basement, but others in the neighbourhood have.
I will look that up, thanks!
A sump pump is mechanical a French drain isn't. The terms aren't interchangeable.
When a french drain is used inside a home, it runs the perimeter of the basement and is on an angle leading to a corner of the basement. At that corner, the water has to go somewhere, hence a sump pump to get the water out of the basement and to the outside.

Everything looks so beautiful. The creek bed is definitely my favorite. I love it!
Love that you use reclaimed and natural elements.
Your home and garden is beautiful!😍
Aww thank you so so much! :)
Through a lot a hard work you and your family have created paradise. Oh yeah, the dry water bed left me gobbed smacked.
I especially like the last idea, the dry creek. It looks great. 🧚🏼♀️
thank you so very much!! :)
Because of this post we used the stone instead of gutters at my son’s home.
Yes please give us a backyard and patio tour! Can't wait! I would love to do something like that too and need ideas.
Thank you Diane, I will! :)
I love the walkway so cool, turned out awesome!! Great Idea
