    Thanks for the great review! After watching I bought myself a pair, and they have been amazing. Have done all sorts of hikes in them- steep inclines, thick vegetation, even up a slatey volcano! Also very comfortable as an all purpose shoe for just day to day walking around. Cheers again for the comprehensive review, I love my pair

    Thanks for the comprehensive review. I agree that Moabs are generally very comfortable as I walked the 900km GR10 in the Pyrenees in a pair of Moab GTX many years ago and they were excellent. What they do lack is decent grip in the tread - not a great problem in warm relatively dry areas such as the south of France but when I come home to walking in the Pennines in the UK with all its mud, to be honest there's not a great deal of choice except maybe Inov8 Mudclaws but they are a running rather than walking shoe.

    I just got a pair of these for Christmas. Spring hike I got them muddy. Rinsed them off but some mud did get stuck in between the mesh and the shoes next layer. But on some boulders or steep woodland trails I love them and with sore knees from a hard bike ride the day before . The shoes were comfortable. I hope they last for a while for me.

      Score! I'm not sure most ppl realize, if you bottom-fish for open box, closeouts, overstocks, etc. you can get almost-free shoes like that. And it's much more of an adventure than deciding what you want and then paying whatever they're asking.

    Great video! Very helpful and informative.
    I’m hunting around for hiking shoes / boots and these have popped up a lot. It’s between these and the MOAB 3 Mid I think.
    I have a rather high arch so need to pop a beefy insole in to correct the overpronation. Do you think these would be ok to do that with?

    • @Dusty_Hikers

      If you remove the insole, yes, you can definitely fit custom orthotics.

      I got a pair of Merrell MQM 3s and tested them out on some hikes in Glacier and Yellowstone. Lovely lightweight hikers with proper arch support. I just recently bought a pair of moab speeds and have yet to test them. So far they do feel like a shoe with minimal arch support with more of a running shoe feel. One thing to note is that the heel drop in the Moab speeds compared to the MQM 3s feels more aggressive compared to the more neutral heel drop in the MQM 3s

  • @MTBkid42

    I noticed the fit is a bit loose, especially in the ankle area, no matter how i lace it, they run a bit hot ,but for walking with a good insert, hiking shoes ? Ya get a 100+ fotwear with a insert thats used in shipping material. ,but merrells nice shoe, as long as its vibram sole.

  • @rehameric2819
    @rehameric2819 Рік тому

    Hello, nice review. I will also order the Goratex model, but the durability of the vibram insoles used in the bottom sole worries me. Most of the negative comments I read on the Merrel official site were about tearing the sole of the shoe in a very short time. How do you think the base performs?

    • @Dusty_Hikers
      @Dusty_Hikers  Рік тому

      After a year all hiking shoes will have significant wear on the soles. I have a lateral heel strike so my shoes wear out on the outside heel and start to affect my gait. When that happens I replace them.

    Imo, the 30% recycled rubber is junk over wet smooth surfaces. VERY "not" grippy.
    I have walked over a hundred miles with mine, and I hate the slipping, and lousy tread pattern and cheap rubber outsole.
    I do NOT recommend buying these shoes.
    I've walked hundreds of miles in Moab 2's, and it is a COMPLETELY different experience in grip!!! Those outsoles are awesome!👍🏻
    I'll never buy any footwear with a recycled rubber compound again....if I can ascertain the truth of it prior to purchase.
    I will be asking "that" question every time from now on.
