“OOOOOOOHHH, Ok I’ve changed my mind, this is my favorite deck.” 😂😂
I love gruul stompy!!! I'll definitely get this
Awesome deck, love the shock land too!
What's the point of a double sided token being the same exact thing on the other side 🤣
Is it worth picking this up, now or waiting for 2024 version?
I say pick it up, since there's no indication there will be any Pioneer precons this year.
Izzet Phoenix is the closest to a meta list by virtue of non-land cards that need replaced (4). But it requires a much bigger investment for the proper mana base.
And this deck is closest to a meta list by virtue of land cards that need replaced, since stompy decks can usually win with whichever big creatures the player likes best. Best thing about that though, is good gruul lands are way cheaper than others. And that Chandra! Need!
Move Chandra to board if you must have her (I'd remove her entirely). Best way to upgrade this deck (and keep the midrange/aggro or "big zoo" feel instead of going lower to the ground w/ atarka's command/embercleave/bushwhackers) would be to move towards the Gruul Vehicles build.
Cards to add: Esika's Chariot; Reckless Stormseeker; Rhonas the Indomitable; Lair of the Hydra (very good for activating lovestruck Beast if your opponent keeps killing your 1/1's); Stomping Ground (obv); Boseiju, Who Endures (although if you have this much extra $$ you probably just skipped the challenger deck altogether, lol); Unlicensed Hearse (sideboard - Weathered Runestone or Grafdigger's if you don't wanna splurge for Hearse; The Akroan War (omg, this card is so good in these Gruul lists - maindeck or sideboard); Obliterating Bolt (replace Abrade or Mortars); Den of the Bugbear (having 1 or 2 in the bigger Gruul lists is great); Skysoverign, Consul Flagship (if you're really goin for the full-on boat build they use 4 in the main, but it can be a decent 1-of in the sideboard as well); Rekindling Phoenix (good card, also if for some reason it dies pre-combat you can target the egg with Chariot if you have those), Workshop Warchief (good green fatty, hard for non-exile removal to deal with and the 4/4 it leaves behind can also be duplicated with Chariot if you have any of those); Fable of the Mirror-Breaker (all-around good card that's hard to deal with, also works amazingly with Rekindling Phoenix or Workshop Warchief if you decide to use any of those); Fry (I personally like this card over Rending Volley just due to how it deals with UW Control threats instead of just spirits or white weenie); Alpine Moon (sideboard hate vs Nykthos if that's something you're afraid of).......
I realized I made that kinda hard to read. I think it's good info if you are genuinely interested in upgrading this deck and enjoy this style of deck, especially if you don't follow the game too closely and don't know all the different/newer cards that are out in the format atm... hope it helps someone.
Cards to take out: IMHO, the first cards to remove to make room for any of the things I listed above would be Glorybringer (if you love the card maybe leave a couple in...but it's just not an ideal play at 5mana most of the time in 2022/23 and I think you'd be better off going for the full Vehicles build with Skysoverign over this card); Mizzium Mortars (possibly could keep 1-2 in the sideboard, but Obliterating Bolt is just a better card most of the time since exile is so useful nowadays); Abrade (again, you could keep 1 in the board for matchups like Greasefang...but even then it's not ideal -- best to go after the graveyard with Scooze, Hearse, Cage, etc. and you have cards like Cindervines for enchant/artifact removal)
Not gonna go much further than that, lol. Again, hope this wall of text helps someone at least.
TLDR: Esika's Chariot, The Akroan War, Obliterating Bolt, Reckless Stormseeker, Rhonas the Indomitable, Fry (sideboard), Lair of the Hydra (creature-land that you can turn into a 1/1 to activate Beast if your op kills your 1/1's) are great, somewhat cheap upgrades (only Chariot and Rhonas cost anything at all, and they're around $5)
Lesser-used, but still good (and cheap), additions: Rekindling Phoenix, Workshop Warchief
Expensive but fantastic upgrades: Boseiju, Who Endures (auto-include in any mono green or gruul deck, at least 1 but no more than 2); Fable of the Mirror-Breaker (very hard to deal with, works wonders with cards like Rekindling Phoenix or Workshop Warchief but is almost always good); Den of the Bugbear (not quite as expensive at $8-ish, and a great addition to any red or gruul list)
Just picked up 2 to return back to tournaments. Haven't played in years.
OK this deck told its your time to start pioneer
I guess that Chandra used to be good but Planeswalkers are too slow for this deck
Is this best pionner deck or not?
No, it's way out of date. Check out the current metagame list for the Pioneer format here: www.mtggoldfish.com/metagame/pioneer#paper
No emblem token?
this and the orhov decks are legit
