I admire your coolest temper. Great professional. With all stange location and installation, obstacles, dangerous and limited access, you maintained high workmanship. Wonderful lesson!
Man. I'm glad I found your video. My Carrier air handler unit needs replacing due to a refrigerant leak. Now I know what my trusted tech will be tasked with for the replacement. Thanks.
You definitely work hard with those evaporators coils, I would consider getting a pro press when working with coils in crawl spaces, I would get scared that the insulation would catch fire, a pro press would be lighter than carrying torches in crawl space, Good job Curtis.
Just love watching videos like this. Would never do it myself, even though each individual step is not crazy. I just really like to see how things go together and see skilled tradesmen.
you've had some good tokes of phosgene gas in the past ehh? bad stuff for you. burning chloromethane gasses = phosgene gasses(R22 R12 so forth), phosgene is very close to mustard gas, the famous world war poision.
To move around in the attic, get a piece of 3/4 plywood and screw a piece of duck strapping to it. Pull it around over the insulation and if you need to carry something out put it on your new sled.
I went up in the attic to clean my evaporator coils... the access panel is so small I can barely get my hand in there, never mind anything to clean it. The rest of the box is riveted and sealed. Nice design, Carrier.
What is an honest price to pay for that job. I was quoted 4500. With easy access to 2ton system and coil lines running about 15ft in a straight line to outside heat pump. Feels like a rip off, what do you guys think as professionals in the field?
my feet slipped off trusses once, my body with double bag heavy tool belt and all, I stuck my elbows out and caught myself on upper arms, it nearly tore my shoulders out of socket and then I was stuck hanging there, because even after I got my hands onto the trusses and tried lifting myself up through, the tool belts were hitting the 16" on center spacing. it was a 18' high flat ceiling overtop a tall library room, I was sure doing some shouting and hollering, luckily co-worker heard me and came up to unhook tool belt and pull it up. by time I got back up on trusses I had to lay there for 20 minutes to move my arms again, but that's better than a huge fall onto concrete pad.
Nice. Is that screw you removed @4:30 and replaced @8:55 the same size as the screws mounting the panels to the frame? I set my unit in the attic last year and am now just installing it. I don't see any of the panel door screws LOL.
I might get me a couple of pieces of 1x12 spruce or fir boards to walk, and then sit on up there. They would span the gaps and are light to move around.
Can you swap out a R 22 coil with a R410 coil ? I want to keep the air handler but put a 410 a coil in it and run it out to our 410 a compressor. What are your thoughts? Will
is it not necessary to use primer on the drains? I've been doing it but I feel like the glue would probably hold jsut fine for the little pressure going through it
IKR, And they stick them where you can't work on them, access panels, etc!! Worst was those (Westinghouse??) through the wall package heatpumps you had to access from a 30' ladder and drop the condenser fan our the bottom to access the evaporator squirrel cage, took 2 techs to do anything!!
I'm from the south and I don't understand it either. They're saving livable space. There are some in attics that aren't bad at all. Others are like what codes, we don't need no stinking codes.

It is evident that you take alot of pride in your job. Nice work. It helped me understand just what was going into replacing my carrier ac unit coil.

24-inch centers should come with a little bird - the one that goes, "CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP!"
Funny, I could smell that smoke coming up in front of the camera just like I was there!!
It even triggered my COPD!! LOL!!
Had to share that with my wife. Made me laugh.

I always appreciate your honesty. You’re a true professional.
Great work on this one
I will never complain about walking down 14 steps down a basement anymore...

Fine job on that repair!
As others have said. Some RLS (ProPress) fittings would make your life so much easier. Also look at Stay Brite 8 solder.
nice install!
Nice. I’m learning by watching you
I swapped out that exact coil except downflow setup today.

Just replaced a carrier coil today. It was a 10-ton RTU, but still.
How did you know what size piston was needed to match your outdoor unit?

Nice Work
FYI. The fieldpiece only looks at the low side pressure for the decay test.
nice work
Cleaning up the wires are a little thing- But improves the QUALITY of your work-looks like spring cleaning. Bub
Good job.
Thanks again for the videos!

Stay safe.
Retired (werk'n)keyboard super tech. Wear your safety glasses!

Got a question, what happened to the TVX valve? I didn’t see it on the install.
I thought my unit was hard to work on. It's cake next to this unit. It's like they built the house around it.

Thanks, where are you located?

No. Drain isn’t under pressure
Wonder if this is Carrier thing, unit isn't that old and coil has a leak,in my 4 ton unit.
Would you not worry about catching the "insulation" of fire with that torch? Isn't there a better way to get that connected?
I guess you could braze on copper outside, and use RLS. I’ve never used RLS though. I’m not sure I trust it.
These jobs are why you get the big bucks.
Hi how much you charge for service like this , respect
What is the appropriate cost for this coil replacement?
What micron do you vacuum down to
Nice Job! I wish you could come do mine.
That is a nightmare scenario for blocked HVAC access .Should have brought some plywood to walk on and cushions to lay down on .
Carrier build it yourself coil not as fun as carrier build it yourself heat exchanger. Good job
What nitrogen regulator are you using?
Western can’t recall the model # the 500 psi version
Thanks for the info. Great job on the coil by the way.
How much customer paid total ?
I do not recall if I told this before, but I had a packaged R22 system that some joker put R415a into.
you sure it wasn't R414B ( aka HOTSHOT)? because 415a is mostly R22, then again who knows what people do. lol
There needs to be a standard for access and space for attic installations including an area to safely work.
There is. It’s per code, inspectors are supposed to fail installations if they are not up to code.
I don't understand people that put devices in attic and not put some kind of flooring down
Cause screw the service guy

Hey Curtis how come they put 407C in a 410A system agian amazing job 😊😊😊
A mistake
I don't understand why people do not provide EASY access to the unit. I would charge extra to the people who don't provide it.
Bro you have your torches way to high
I thought the same thing, looks like an oxidizing flame. Sure is fast though!!!
Talk about a terrible situation
TXV valve
U should do at least 250$an Houer
Those slab coils are always a bitch to get out
Gloves!
