      So it has 3 RCA preouts. If I want to add one active tweeters in front, I need one set for those, one set for then front mids and then one set for subwoofer. How to run the rear door speakers then?

    • @drm9979
      @drm9979 5 років тому +1

      I believe you would run the middle output to an amp, which would then power both your front mids and the rear panel speakers. they should be similar so that they would accept the same crossover points.

    • @expertautodetail1833
      @expertautodetail1833 5 років тому +1

      @@green_life7 you would need a dedicated tweeter amplifier or available channels on a amp just for your tweeters or some people use the PRS to power there tweeters

    Yes. That is correct. You can remove the passive crossovers entirely from your system. In fact make sure to turn off any cross overs in you amplifier too. It sounds heavenly. You'll hear more detail that you never heard before. No caps, inductors, or resistors to mud up your sound. All digitally crossed directly in the head unit.

    I owned one of these and plan to buy another. Its the best 1DIN deck I've ever owned. There is a switch on the bottom that allows you to run normal / standard or 'network' mode. In the standard mode it works like you are used to. You have two RCA's for front and two RCA's for rear and two RCA's for Sub. If you want to run four speaks or don't know about active networks, this is what you'll want. If you are hi-fi switch to network and bi-amp your speakers.

    Basically that will work fine. As noted in the Operation Manual on Page 6, leave the network select switch to STD (NOT NW). The shipped configuration is STD, but if for some reason you changed this, do a microprocessor reset with a ballpoint pen as noted in the Operation Manual on Page 5. Make sure you connect the passive crossovers according to the manufacturers recommendation (input polarity and speaker output polarities) or you might have phasing issues (crossover frequency sound level).

  • @MotorDetroit
    @MotorDetroit 11 років тому +2

    There is a tiny switch recessed on the bottom of the head unit. Switch it to network mode and reset the CPU on the head unit. To reset the CPU you need a ball point pen. Pull off the face and press the tiny button (RESET) behind the face for several seconds. It is explained in the Operation Manual on page 5. The Network mode switch is explained on Page 6 of the Operation Manual.

    This is the best head unit I have ever seen in terms of sound quality and price point, but I totally agree that the user interface is terribly confusing. They really should have tested this head unit with normal people to see if they could figure it out without the manual. It took me hours to get it, and I still forget how to use it. But other than the TERRIBLE UI, its a great great great sounding deck.

    YES. You can connect your tweeters DIRECTLY to the amplifier. No need for crossovers between the amp and the tweeter. IN FACT you don't even need a crossover on the amplifier. In fact make sure to turn off all crossovers in network mode. It sounds HEAVENLY. Sounds like the music is wired right to your brain. No capacitors or inductors to drop power or mud up the sound. You control the cross points directly in the head unit.

  • @thomaswilliams1963
    @thomaswilliams1963 11 років тому

    Yes. This head unit is designed for an "active" configuration this means you have a separate amplifier channel for your mids, your tweeter, and your sub. You determine the range of frequency output from the head unit. The amplifiers then just amplify the signal has been split at the head unit. There is thus no need for passive crossovers. If you want a four-way active system, then this unit will not work. In that case you need to upgrade to the 99 series head unit.

    im thinking of wiring 2 sets of component speakers one for front and the other for rear doors. Got a 4 channel amp to power them. The connection I'm planing is, Ch 1 for left side door tweeters, Ch 2 for right side door tweeters, Ch 3 left side woofers, Ch 4 right side woofers. I'm connecting the crossovers for each side in parallel. Then amplified by their channel. What do you think of this?
    HU: pioneer DEH-80PRS
    Speakers: 2X Rockford T2652-S
    Amp: RF T600-4
    No sub for now

    @Ron Gibson: Regarding no sound from your 6x9's. Check your settings. You can turn off the internal amp for slightly cleaner sound. This is for big systems all connected through the RCA pre-outs. However if you are connecting your 6x9's directly to the deck, you'll need to make sure the internal amp is set to on. Check the manual pg36. I hope that helps.

    Can you use the network mode without any amplifiers?
    I installed this HU and the auto mode makes it sound horrible but I am in standard mode. I am using it in a 2006 MX5 with bose system. I took out a pioneer radio that sounded great

    • @bwilson0191
      @bwilson0191 8 років тому

      +South FLAveMini Your Bose system might have DSP built into the amps or external processor. Not sure if it was in your amps or stock head unit, but if there's still DSP programming in your system and you're trying to add DSP from this head unit, it will sound like garbage. The other Pioneer probably didn't have any kind of DSP built in so it worked OK with the stock DSP settings. Your best bet, if you really want to set this up right, is to get good amplifiers and speakers and ditch the crappy Blows, I mean Bose. Those are crappy cheap quality stock speakers and amps. Replacing everything is the only way you can be sure to get rid of the stock DSP and really achieve great sound quality!

    I was considering to update my headunit to this one, but...
    I'm very sure this will be better (sounding) than my old Alpine CDA9855R, but man the way you have to do these settings ??!!
    they said the 9855R wasn't easy to set up, but damn you can set up the whole crossover in the same menu
    you just have to hit the "band" button to go through all the frequency bands, hit the source button to change the slope, use the slide touch to change the frequencies, use your volume button to change the Db, ...
    ALL in the same menu and you instantly hear the differences
    cause it's possible to choose your band so fast and easily, setup is a blast
    Once you get the hang of it, you even can change your crossover while driving!!!!
    (not that you should, but just saying it's THAT easy)
    here you continuously have to go through every "network", setting every "network" at a time ....
    EVERY time leaving your menu....
    I really DISLIKE this way for when you're a "novice" and have to change the crossover a lot to get it right....
    LOVE the looks though

    It was build with audio files in mind but not durability lol I have had my brand new 400$ single din unit in for only about 2-3 months. And well literally every button is starting to get shittier and shitter to press. Thank you guys a lot. I wasted my money on this thing and now am stuck with it till it falls the whole way apart. I know a lot of people who love pioneer but are very mad about this. I mean if u are spending over 300 on anything. Especially a single din unit it should be badass asf and high quality to the touch. Not saying it should be able to be dropped 5ft and b ok and stuff but at least not start to break after just a short 3 months… with sweet and very tender care. From my hands. Subs is another story🤣 if u guys want to do something badass recreate the original from back in the early 2000s my dad had his in for literally the day it dropped on market in his cars until like 3 years ago cause the cds kept getting almost stolen forever lol, still has it but just not in a car. And all the fuckin buttons are just fine tooo. And it was 1000$ back then for that single din. Yeah ik mine isn’t even half that. But at the same time I mean, should I really have to spend 1000$ on a single din? It doesn’t cost 100 to actually completely build and program the alpine big mfr that’s like 1500-2k but they charge 1500 before tax for it. To me all of it is just stupid. I just wish the world wasn’t all worried about making the maximum profit. And I wish it was about yeah, That’s my brand of shit right there. Last u forever, especially if u take care of it. that’s what I would want my name attached too not yeah don’t buy those they fall apart in 3 months if u have real speakers in the trunk🤣🎯😪. Please build something nice so when I go to buy my next one I’m not disappointed in the pioneer company… do not buy the pioneer 80prs everyone of them is the same. Shitty quality build ☹️ I watched youtubers talking about how the buttons were pieces of shit taped back to the dogs ass waiting to slide back off. And they were Very right unfortunately. I hope you take this with a grain of salt if you pioneer people r reading this. And make ur name what it once was. One of the baddest forces to be reckon with. Put y’all’s skills to the task and build something great and not something you’ll need my left arm and leg for. At this point y’all could give everyone who ever purchased a bad unit ever in ur whole time of being a corporation, A WHOLE BRAND NEW 1000$ unit. and still be up millions in profit alone. So come on. Make us something that’s worth the dollars we earn. And then give to YOU please. I’d hate to have to buy another one just to find out it’s fucking butt cheeks. Tell that ceo and the dick riders not to be so greedy and make something a lot less sleezy for. Yeah what u can do to ur system is good. I love they brought back all the options from the old model like I was talkin bout up there. But bro if the buttons don’t work how tf am I supposed to use this thing. Yeah I gotta remote but the buttons on the radio are butt like fuckk. Now I see why I have the remote cause the actual radio functionality is reaching its life expectancy. After 3 months… I mean hey if u are a baller and u don’t mind dropping 400 every 3-4 months or so on a head unit, hey by all means buy it up. But if u ain’t that. Then this probably isn’t for u. Fr. And one other thing since I’m here if u do happen to make another better version of the 80prs. Make it to where there’s more live backgrounds. That’s badass asf to have on a single din. And hey like I said I love it. I just wish they put more time and money in the quality of the unit itself. Note it and use it. I’m sure there are thousands of people out there thinking this. And just want to have a good pioneer unit to last them 5 years at least uno. That used to be the main task but not anymore

    • @Rayvandy
      @Rayvandy 9 років тому +1

      HI_grade i think it's already mentioned somewhere in the beginning of the video. this unit has pre-out for high, mid, and low RCAs instead of front, rear and sub RCAs. so you need to connect RCA that carries low freq to subwoofer amp, RCA for mid freq for the amplifier that drives the mid-bass/mid range speakers, and RCA for high for the amplifier that drives the tweeters. Technically this unit only has 2 channels, so if you need to utilise your rear speakers, then you need to tap the front channel to the rear (either by using separate amps), or connect your front and rear speaker cable in parallel (make sure your amp can handle lower impedance, e.g. 2ohms).

    In bi amp mode, you run individual wires from your amp to each speaker. No need for cross overs. It sounds heavenly if you are willing to run a two channel set up. So for example you get a 4 channel amp. two channels go to tweeters and two channels go to midranges. Buy ANOTHER two channel amp or mono channel amp for you sub. Trust me, its amazing if you buy good speakers.

    From pioneer on 3 way digital network: "The result: more distinct separation of the three frequency ranges, for more full, natural sound realizing more of each speaker’s potential in a multi-speaker system."
    Does this mean that if i have a set of component speaker system i can bypass or exclude the included crossover units since the Pioneer 80prs would be doing this ? already

      This is a long answer to your question. Please take the time to read the entire answer. There is a link to a Pioneer How To video below. Please take the time to watch the video with the sound on.
      This is a basic explanation of the concept of crossovers and slopes and is not meant to cover all of the ins and outs and what have you's in this discussion. Not even close.
      The crossover and the slope work together to provide a powerful sound shaping tool to customize the output for your particular speakers in your setup based on your listening characteristics.
      A crossover is a filter. It decides what frequencies of the sound go to what speakers in your vehicle. For example high frequencies to the tweeters, and low frequencies to the subwoofers.
      If you have ever seen a prism separate sunlight into the component frequencies, or colors of the rainbow, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet, a crossover does the same thing. Only the crossover does this to sound instead of light.
      A crossover is a filter. There are two basic types of crossovers. LPF or low pass filter, and HPF or high pass filter.
      The LPF or low pass filter, let's low frequencies pass through and it filters out high frequencies.
      The HPF or high pass filter does the opposite of LPF. The HPF let's the high frequencies pass through and the low frequencies are filtered out.
      Speakers are designed to playback selected frequency groups. It's very difficult to design a single speaker that can playback very low frequencies and very high frequencies at the same time and do it all very well. That's why we have woofers and tweeters.
      You want your subwoofer to only play low frequencies and not high frequencies. That's what the woofer is designed to do. You want the tweeter to playback only the high frequencies and not the low. That's what the tweeter is designed to do.
      When you choose a crossover point, for example 80Hz on the LPF this is the crossover point, or cutoff point.
      Does this mean that 80Hz plays through the subwoofer, but 81Hz does not play? Only frequencies below 80 Hz will pass to the subwoofer. That's what you want, and this is what the LPF does.
      However, it does not cut off like a razor. This is where the slope comes in.
      The slope decides how sharply the filter rolls off the sound output. The slope is rated in decibels per octave, for example 12dB per octave. An octave is when we double the frequency or cut the frequency in half.
      For example: 100Hz to 200Hz is one octave. And 5kHz to 2.5kHz is also one octave.
      With a 12 dB per octave slope and an 80Hz crossover point, at 160Hz, or one octave higher than 80Hz, the subwoofers output will be 12dB lower than the output at 80Hz. And 24dB lower at two octaves higher.
      The higher the frequency goes, the less it's played by the subwoofer, all starting at 80Hz. This is a gentle roll off. A sharp slope or steep slope would be 36dB per octave.
      How does this effect the sound from the speakers? This is a tool to customize settings in different vehicles. You use the crossovers and slope setting to decide what frequencies go to what speakers in your system.
      For example if you are using 6.5 inch full range coaxial type speakers in the door, I recommend an HPF set at 80Hz and 12 dB per octave as a place to start. The door speakers will play all frequencies above 80 Hz. If you find the speakers low frequencies are breaking up at higher volumes you might change this to 100Hz. Or you could keep the 80Hz crossover point and change the slope to 18, or 24, or 30 dB per octave. Both of these settings might provide a good solution depending upon your speakers and listening habits.
      It's often a good idea to have the LPF and HPF meet at the crossover point, this way there is no frequency gap in the playback between speakers.
      Please take a look at this How To video from Pioneer: ua-cam.com/video/WvJXYh6vk_0/v-deo.html Please watch the video with the sound on. This video gives a simple explanation of a crossover and a slope and what making those adjustments will do. It discusses how adjust the crossovers and slopes on a Pioneer receiver set up in both Standard mode and later in the video in Network mode.
      The video starts off with Standard mode setup. I know you aren't interested in Standard mode, however, please watch this portion of the video because basic principles of the RTA and what is displayed on the screen are explained in the beginning portion of the video. This will help you to understand what's happening in the Network mode portion on the video.
      The Network mode portion of the videos starts here: ua-cam.com/video/WvJXYh6vk_0/v-deo.html Again please take you time to watch the video with the sound on. Also please be sure to watch the Standard mode potion of the video for an explanation of how the RTA works and what it displays.

      On the Pioneer DEH-80PRS, when you switch on the subwoofer output a crossover point and slope must be selected. This applies to both Standard Mode and Network Mode. Stereo or Mono output. In Network Mode, a frequency as high as 250Hz and a slope of -12dB per octave can be selected for the subwoofer output. If you don't really want a subwoofer output, it may be best to split off the Front or Rear outputs for your setup. Both the Front and Rear RCA's can be set up as full range outputs with the slope set to zero. Please be more specific with your question and provide more information about your setup. There may be a different work around solution available. You'll need to setup your receiver in Network Mode and not Standard Mode. Do you have the receiver set up in Network Mode? To check you need to see the bottom of the receiver and check the Network/Standard switch. You can see it in this unboxing video from Pioneer: ua-cam.com/video/4Ix3u758p9c/v-deo.html

      Please note: The DEH-80PRS has 2 USB ports. Please be sure you're using USB1 or USB2 as the selected source. Format the USB drive as FAT 16 or FAT 32. Do not use exfat. Do not use NTFS. Press the microprocessor reset button. You'll need a paperclip or some other small point to press the microprocessor reset button. You can find the microprocessor reset button on the Pioneer DEH-80PRS behind the detachable face to the left near the bottom. If this doesn't correct the issue, I recommend to try a different USB Flash drive. You can find more videos on Pioneer's UA-cam Channel here: ua-cam.com/users/pioneerelectronics

    • @deckerdotto6035
      @deckerdotto6035 5 років тому

      Error 10 is an electrical or mechanical error. Please turn off the ignition and remove the in-dash receiver face plate. Replace the face plate and restart the vehicle. Change to the AM/FM tuner and eject the CD. Try again to play a CD. You can find more videos on Pioneer's You Tube Channel here: ua-cam.com/users/pioneerelectronics

    No. Network is a switch on the bottom of the head unit that allows bi-amplification of your front speakers. You cannot run four channels in network mode. This is for audiophiles. It allows you to control each speaker independently with the head unit. No need for passive cross overs.

    @Cypherdude1 3 роки тому

    The instructions are partially correct. You can do high, mid and low. You can also do front, rear and subwoofer. When is Pioneer going to update this model to include HD Radio? It's a bit outdated. It's an audiophile radio and should be updated.

      No but I bought it anyway ,and i have tons of FLAC .I wish it did but with all the other features and the 3 Burr Brown DAC's, i decided it would get it.I have a 64GB pugged into the USB 1 lead and a 32GB in the sd slot.The 32GB is all WAV files complete albums , get the program called FLAC Front End and uncompress all your FLAC folders to WAV files and load them on to SD or USB . The compression ratio is like 30-35% larger but you can plug in a 128GB USB or larger into the USB and 32 SD (some say larger SD cards will work in the SD slot if you format the SD to FAT32 ,my 64gb SD did not,so I used a SD-USB adapter on the 64gb sd card and have it in the USB cord Slot and it works fine and is fast,all the USB's i have work in it) I mean you have allot of storage space options.
      I have so much music the problem is listing to all of it !
