Tip as a previous ex soldering expert. I always used to have a small fan next to the work pointing backwards. It would draw the fumes away from me. I also used to breath in and hold my breath, then maintain a slow blowing out onto the joint as I soldered.
I really appreciate your videos. They are generally entertaining, informative and thought provoking. And… that Vox sounds righteous! Of all my amps, my AC15 is by far, my favorite.
Just an FYI for all - for removing almost any sticky adhesive substance without harm to plastics, paint, etc, just use Naphtha (lighter fluid). Leaves no residue, so no alcohol required. Will not harm guitar cases, tolex (careful with screen printed tolex!), wallpaper, leather, and 1481-1485 Silvertone amp covering😁, etc. Do not use on screen printed faceplates or tubes/valves. Will not work on super glue, epoxy resin, solder flux or any other substance that alcohol will dissolve. PS - Your channel ROCKS....love it!
@@PsionicAudio Naptha fumes don't bother me but I swear that just a whiff of acetone makes my brain cells go "pop" (that explains a lot about me). Goof Off is even worse. Neither acetone nor Goof Off should be used inside unless you've got every window open plus a fan for ventilation; and they're murder on most plastics, and painted finishes. GooGone is a good alternative to Naptha, safe for use on most plastics, paints and finishes.

Garf. I had not seen this one before commenting on the crossline vid. Have just installed as-is using an old dual gang from an old 70's console. As you so wonderfully demonstrate, it works perfectly! Much more usable than the crossline.
I used basically the same method on my 5E3 build, with a 1meg pot, eliminating the 1M resistor where I tapped into the board .I didn't think it worked any better than just turning down the main volume pot.
Loving this channel! Thank you for all the great content. Im certainly not on your level with my skills however one thing I would like put out there for anyone that wants to incorporate this style of master is that Alphas are the absolute worst dual pots you can utilize for...well for anything that requires a dual gang pot where matching values are important. Their wafers measured resistance are terribly inconsistent and Ive measured as much as 60k differences between the front pot and the back pots! Im not saying dont use their pots at all. I love their tapers and feel and use the single pots in alot of my mods and builds.
@@PsionicAudio Yeah the guys overt at Valve Storm are nice enough to sort through and find me some that are within 10% and even started selling them at an up charge for a bit on their site because of my constant requesting. In your opinion, which Bassman is the best for Bass players? I know every bass player has his own choice….with that said, because of your vast knowledge and experience, with one gives the most clean volume and headroom? I love these long form videos! Total amp geek heaven! I've heard good things about those Vishay MKT1813 coupling caps that are in that AC30 and I've been thinking of using them in a 5E3 build, but several of the values I'm looking for are backordered at most retailers (Mouser, DigiKey, etc) and not expected to be in stock until next year. Any comparable cap you would recommend?
For the PPIMV dual gang pot, how much do you worry about each side being matched in resistance and taper? Using alpha pots I've had one side measure 230k and the other side measure 270k. It seems difficult to find one where each side is within 10 - 15k of eachother.

At 11:38 I said "ground wire" when I meant "bias wire." Sorry about that.
And I meant to edit out getting the lengths of wire measured/ready.

If I was making a Fender amp for playing bass through I'd make a Showman.
Can you get the showman preamp to break up, using it with bass guitar?
I’m assuming that the audio at the MV is grounded through the bias supply filter capacitor (after the adjustment pot) when the volume is turned down?
What is the model of that solder sucker? I have a small one that works well, but I am interested in one that works for larger globs of solder.

I want them close, especially in a fixed bias amp. I haven't had huge disparities with the 3/8" bushing ones.

There are actually standards for wire colors in amps, though almost everyone ignores this.

Goo Gone SUCKS. Goof Off beats the living pants off of it.
Goof Off is a stronger harsher solvent. I use solvents like salt - you can always add more, but you can't take it away.
