Michael Jackson and Prince...... I love them both. It's almost crazy to compare the two because they're performance styles are way different. They were about the same age and were in they're prime at the same time. They also both performed during Super Bowl halftime. Michael was the first artist to perform during halftime back in 1993. More people tuned in to see Michael thanthe game itself. Prince's performance was amazing as well.

When doves cry is a whole genre on its own as rock / funk /hip-hop and pop in it. Its layered so much and so simple on the other hand that it has all musical diverse styles in it. Voice of prince and lin drum is the bass and the chorus inside layered makes it classic and mirroring effect on classic orchestra could easily fit. Guitar rock solo and piano end shows this song tells a story with an opening and an end like no other and lyrics are deep that fits your emotions and amazes. It has a Mozart effect all over you . Its a myth one of the 10 best song of all TIME in every genre . ITS MAJESTIC and it get props for ever and more. This is a song that makes Prince a 21st century musical genius of ALL TIME. These comments are for the album version. On this live its pure joy and fun

The comparing Michael Jackson to Prince might have been a thing back in my day at one point but where Michael plateaued musically because his abilities were limited to writing, singing and dancing! A lot of his success was due to brilliant people around him filling in the gaps! Compared to Prince who didn't need anyone's help to make an album! The best example is him going into his studio at Paisley and 7 days later coming out with Emancipation 3 albums of unbelievable music! By himself...Michael was an entertainer! Prince was music...He left enough behind for us to enjoy for the next 100 years...No disrespect to Michael at all. I love MJ... Seeing him and his brother on TV when I was young was a source of pride for our entire community! Just like sports when they say you can't like this guy if you like that guy! Instead of appreciating them both...

No man, Prince & MJ don't play in the same league. Never.
Prince is a multi instrumentalist, with mastery in guitar, bass, drums and piano/keyboards.
He wrote the songs, not only the lyrics; never needed any help, as MJ did with (for example) Quincy Jones. He produced, recorded, mixed his albums and a bunch of them were made from start to end, everything, by himself.
Prince had one of the widest and wildest vocal ranges: FIVE+ octaves (some say 6 octaves). MJ only 4. But the main thing here is how to use them and Prince could do the same using a falsetto that with his natural voice, he could do a complete scale singing live (LIVE not as MJ) in just one verse.
Prince did pop, funky, rock, Psychedelia, blues, jazz, dance, house music, rap and hip-hop, symphonic...
Michael Jackson only won in one category: selling comercial mainstream record.
Whilst The Purple One always did what he wanted to do. His drum-programming opened new ways for upcoming musicians, his production innovative, he was several years ahead of his time.
And still he got time to write for another artist!!!
BTW I'm still waiting for fans to prove that MJ knows how to play any instrument... Any! Even a triangle is valid... :P

@@archangel3386 man, do you what is a COMMA? Then use them! IDK how to read what you wrote!
I don't mind what the credits in a record of MJ say or not. After a lot of musicians, producers and technician saying how he worked, his limited skills, and what he stole from others... I just can believe my eyes and ears. I want a video of him playing instruments live. Something like a rehearsal with a piano or he playing an acoustic guitar.
MJ was a performer, a dancer. Prince was a real genius who demonstrate millions of times his talent with many instruments, a wild vocal range, an orchestral director, a man able to compose, play the instruments, record and produce a song in hours without any help. There's no battle possible. Just accept it.

I read several comments and detected that some die-hard Prince fans underestimated Michael. He's normal about him. Michael was a complete package; singer, dancer, composer, producer. She wrote many of her hits for him and also for other artists such as Diana Ross, Rebbie Jackson, her sister, and for his siblings' band, The Jacksons. Her music spans many genres: soul, funk, rock, hip hop, rap, new jack swing, disco, R&B, pop. He was also a genius as a performer, like what he did as a kid and how he would take a song that he hadn't written and make it his own. Prince was a better musician, he played many instruments. An aspect that MJ never mastered. They were very different in everything and people should never have compared them. Although it could be said that Prince was more talented because of the instruments, both are legends and belong to a category that few artists reach.

@@gfanarakos If it is for the simple fact of playing an instrument, MJ did play guitar, piano and drums, but not with mastery, he was never interested in learning to play at a professional level, but already talented enough in other areas. There is a difference between mastering and playing an instrument. Prince was a great guitarist and instrumentalist, but not all the instruments he played were mastered with the same level of mastery.
