Mary was enormously famous during World War One on bond tours to support the doughboys along with Douglas and Charlie Chaplin. My grandmother told me the newspapers were full of news about Mary Pickford, and they referred to her as America's Sweetheart all through the 1920s and into the early 1930s. She had a very pretty face and famous for her long curly blonde hair. It was big news when she bobbed her hair sometime in 1928 or 1929. No more long curls. This was very interesting and entertaining. Hope you will do more on many of the famous actresses of the 1920s and early 1930s.
I bet it’s so nice to know about your family’s history. Idk why but we were raised to not ask questions. I don’t know much about my ancestors and I have a HUGE curiosity. I always wondered what they were like. Who they were and where they came from. 😩 must be nice
@@maggiem1989 I UNDERSTAND COMPLETELY BCUZ I WOULD ALWAYS ASK MY MOM QUESTIONS. WHEN I THOUGHT SHE WAS IN A GOOD MOOD WHICH WAS NEVER BUT I NEEDED TO KNO MY PPL IN MEXICO 🇲🇽 ❤ SHE WOULD ALWAYS SHUT ME DOWN....I WONDER IF SHE KNEW WHAT SHE DID TO A LITTLE GIRLS SPIRIT 💔
I just love Silent Films and it's largely bc of great directors like D.W. Griffith, Ernst Lubitsch and G.W. Pabst. Actors though...Mary Pickford and Lillian Gish and Barbara Bedford. Just awesome talent.
No, she was a showgirl, which had a notorious reputation (like her ill-fated sister-in-law Olive Thomas). Mary was a terrible snob. Joan tried really hard, though, and would copy Mary's table manners.
Her childhood years were very hard after her father died very young and the family were thrown into poverty. She spent many years with travelling acting troupes which is not exactly a normal childhood. However, Mary was extremely smart and kept her money once she began to make it.
The writer sounds like a frustrated novelist, doomed to write articles for celebrity magazines. 😉 Anyway, 6 years later, they were essentially separated and Mary had taken a liking to her co-star in her last silent film, "My Best Girl". Hey, Buddy Rogers was there; Fairbanks was off carousing in Europe with socialites. Life is fleeting; love even more so. Fame, most of all: I bet by the early 40s, Mary missed all the paparazzi attention. She had been almost entirely forgotten by then.
This is increasingly becoming one of my favorite channels!
Mine too‼️ LOVE FROM CHI-TOWN ❣

My great-uncle worked as a security guard after he retired, and he worked at Pickfair some. He said one whole room was filled with silver awards, etc.

Wasn't Mary Pickford enchanting? So unspoilt, not like the overmade up celebs we get today. Clara Bow was the same.
And Douglas Fairbanks was wonderful, too. Even today his stunts (which he did himself) hold up well and are great fun to watch.
Great content and you're an amazing writer!!
Thanks, but I don't write the scripts for the Photoplay videos. I just read the original text of the article. I only wish I was that good!
Hes always laughing and a smile.he looks like a blast. I bet that how everyone must had felt.
"Mary was pleasant but self absorbed" - Pickford's friends.
Very well done as usual 🎯🇺🇲🔥

I really loved the 1920s
Well done video-again...👍🏻
I hear that Mary Pickford did not like her daughter-in-law Joan Crawford.
No one did.
@@Dive-Bar-Casanova Who Joan married to that she would be her daughter-in-law?? Never knew that!
@@Melinda8162 Douglas Fairbanks Jr.

If Mary Pickford is the epitome of trial and tribulation as far as her "hard life" is concerned, then count me in

Good video Happy Thanksgiving
Really good!
Well done 🤩
Adorable
Who was Joan Crawford marry to.was fairbank jr?
Tulle is pronounced tool
Note from one film editor to another: Panning from bottom to top is distracting and irritating. Better to zoom in and out.
