This was very helpful! I am currently doing my BSW and will be doing my field placement this august! I am both nervous and excited I just hope I get into the agency I want to be placed in.
Rhetorically speaking, what would you do if you found that you were being treated like an employee and, for instance, asked to file paperwork or do mundane tasks? Do you just say no?
I would first turn to my professor(s) for the answer. I had a professor and class where we discussed how our field experience was and wrote papers on it and such. I may also ask my supervisor at the agency (or that field professor) for a description of what my role is as I need to learn what I came for - and my tuition includes it. Overall, some things may be just attached to the job like charting notes and filing some things but there is a line (such as being forced to get coffees for everyone or do something way outside the role). Depending on the role and agency - there should be someone to help guide the intern through concerns.
Congrats on your journey to getting an MSW! I usually don't say just for privacy reasons/ I don't represent them or anything so I try to make my content so it could fit general info. good luck with everything and thank you for watching :)
Also, are you afraid when you become a therapist that your clients will find your UA-cam channel? I’m starting my first “real” year of the BSW (Junior in college) and I want to start a UA-cam channel but am hesitant also because maybe your job can find you and idk how/what they’d say. Could you tell ur experience about having a platform online while also being in this field? Thanks!
Although I do not plan on becoming a therapist anytime soon (later in my career most likely), I have contemplated an employer or client potentially finding my channel. Unless someone directly looks up social work, I would most likely not come across their path. Also, my channel is just starting out so even though it does not have a large audience yet, I personally 100% believe it is worth it - each and every subscriber / watcher I appreciate. That said, I would never jeopardize my job, client's personal information or confidentiality by including details about them. I love making videos and love, even more, when people tell me they are helping them. Real-life Social work videos are rare on UA-cam right now and I want to contribute to the education and growth of this community. I think social work would be a whole lot less stigmatized and more people would know the depths of how amazing this career is with more info like what a UA-cam platform can provide! thank you for your questions and good luck in school!
Can you make a video on how to help pay off the graduate degree? Like work, any side hustles, etc. I know some people don’t work at all during their Master’s Programs
I would like to include that information in a video eventually! so many students have different perspectives with this and I do want to try to make a video encompassing this topic!
I am so happy I found your channel! I’m a BSW student (graduating this May) & I’m about to start my first internship 😊 So anxious & excited!
Yay I’m happy you are here! Thank you 😊
Really thank you

So when you do your internship in the BSW program will that suffice for the internship requirement for
the graduate level
Hello! No, I had to do a completely separate internship for my grad school program.
Thanks for the video! I will be graduating in 2022 but am starting to look at field placements right now. I am also a student in New England! ☺️
That’s awesome, congrats and good luck!

If you have to take out loans, Dave Ramsey is a lifesaver. He has really put my mind at ease about life after graduation and tackling debt.
thanks jaclyn for the helpful tips as i am contemplating to study further. additional subs here. cheers
