Bring the history! Never let it be erased!!! We must stand together! I really enjoyed what you guys did this year for the 157th. Good motivation to return to Gettysburg and see the sites that you guys presented!
Am ferociously interested in this war. I was there! In my last life. Cannot get enough info. Thank you for your info and passion to meet my own. Excelcior!
Just for perspective, the 24th MI (Iron Brigade) went into action on July 1st, on McPherson's hill west of town, with 499 men in ranks, when they formed up here late that evening, they had 99 left in the ranks. And then later on the evening of July 2nd, were moved to help contain the Reb attack on the lower summit of Culp's Hill. Iron Men indeed!
And when you say the 24th went into action on the 1st those boys REALLY went into action! A real slugfest! A tribute to their fighting spirit that they could even function as a unit on the 2nd and 3rd.
Hey, there!! I've walked the battlefield at Gettysburg even explaining to some school age kids and there parents the capability of the weapons. HOWEVER there is another battle winding down in Vicksburg. Do you cover that? The double loss on 04 July 1863 sealed the fate of the Confederacy.
Read Edward Bearss' 'Receding Tide: Vicksburg and Gettysburg; the Campaigns that Changed the Civil War' to really get a clue on how much that critical two months meant to this Nation.
My Ancestors were with the 147th Pennsylvania, began with the 28th PA at Antietam, when part of it became the 147th both went with it, one died at New Hope Church and the other finished up the War at the Victory Parade in Washington City, May 1865.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Monuments ! July 2020 ! Save them all ! if wanted removed ? (CSA Monuments ) move them a special location that we Civil War interest people / groups can still view them ! Or sell them to Civil War interest Groups, or private CW interest people. I have traveled to many southern CW locations, the CSA monuments list Units, Battles and CSA soldiers' names, statue, details of uniforms, weapons etc. Please save them. Support CW history. Garry, you hade me with that comments about Charlie Fennell - Charlie (the Doctor of Culp's Hill) and I are old friends, and he and I once climbed the vertical slope of CH, and the damn Tower, on January 3rd when both were covered in ice. ;-) BTW, Garry, Charlie Fennell, and Wayne Motts are people that you want to have done double duty on your caffeine before taking a tour. Just sayin'.
Tucson AZ, I began to learn of Gettysburg from charlie brown and later the history Channel and the movie, loved brother against brother aka blood n fury american civil war! hope to join reenacting some time or at least try it out. or see it with someone special. If she'll come with me.
An example of the hand to hand fighting that took place at this location came from the XI Corps Artillery namely Battery I of the 1st NY, Battery B of the 1st Penn. After 3 quarters of an hour It was said a Confederate soldier threw himself over the muzzle of a cannon and called out to the gunners "I take command of this gun" whereas the German gunner replied "Du Sollst Sie Haben" and who was in the act of firing. A second later the daring rebel has his answer and thus Chancellorsville was redeemed.
Then cannot get to everything, plus they are talking about the fighting, not the civilian experience during these livestreams. I've always wanted them to do a video about the Jacob Weikart farm where Tillie Pierce experienced most of the battle but its private property so they would have to get permission. The Jenny Wade house is probably packed with people around it, so it would be hard to do a video from there. Here is a short video they put up not too long ago about Jenny Wade. ua-cam.com/video/2GqKKI71iq4/v-deo.html
My ancestor served at the Louisianna Militia. He survived the war and died 1888. Just one year ago, during my search for my ancestors, I found him. To make this a bit clearer: I am from germany. But I didn't found more as: his birthday and place, his kids and wife and where he died and when. Special thing was a photo of him and later one of his wife. Maybe someone has an idea how to find out more? This would be great. Thanks for all, thanks American Battlefield Trust
Dame I'm jealous now I wish I lived here but what about Picketts charge dont forget to show genral Lee's statue wish they hade a night tour as well so we can see the battle field at night
Mr Motts - the Confederates attacked the Brickyard Road at the base of Cemetery Hill first - not directly to the top as you were alluding to. I'm sure you already know that but it's not right to ignore the fighting that took place before the rebs gained the crest.
OK- I can't listen to these guys....Let's get overly excited about death and mayhem! Especially when you're not the ones doing the dying. They sound like they're trying to sell time shares.
So many brave both sides
I want to live in that town and live with the history day in and day out for the rest of my life.

I am a veteran of a July 1972 Boy Scouts walk of the battlefield. Don't think the Park has erected a monument to our Scout troop :)
My ancestor was in the 7th Ohio at Culp’s hill, he took some grayback prisoners
Why have you not mentioned Jenny Wade and Tillie Pierce?
Because she didnt fight at Stevens Knoll

Umm.. having been there, the battlefield at night is, well... dark.

And some people want to destroy Avery's heritage - terrible!
How about the famous bayonet charge down the hill?
That was on the second day, July 2nd, on Little Round Top. Or at least I think thats the one you mean.
