Just finished watching the extended highlights of the game and couldn’t believe how poor the refereeing was. Had to google who it was and your UA-cam clip came up. You really hit the nail on the head, absolutely shocking.
Mate i actually cant believe they are trying this, its insulting to think the fans wouldnt understand what was happening and they can just ignore the penalties
Definitely a huge disadvantage playing one set of rules or application of rules in super rugby then going to internationals and the refs start actually calling penalties. The players get lazy
It's one thing to speed up the game but it's another when the rules are so inconsistent or that there isn't even rules in some cases. Technically it is speeding up but it not the game because if there is no rules. You don't really get a game. It's more like a playground of a made up game bythe refs and officials randomly at times picking a team to get the advantage. In which most cases it was the Waratahs. Either way. Not a good look for Super Rugby and "speeding the game up"
This is what you get when you want to turn RU in RL. It started when everybody complained during the WC. It’s intertainin’ see. When NZ doesn’t get their way and win a WC the rules have to change. Then the Ozzies latch on because they can’t think for themselves.
Nothing to see here. Even in cricket, if it's not sandpaper. But let's not forget how that country develops. Mmm prove is everywhere. No fair play in any sport.
First up, I respect referees, tough gig, and the balance of decisons in a game usually demonstrates a fair application of the laws. However another clanger from this person, Damon Murphy has always been an embarrassment to Superrugby refereeing, for years. I dont know how they keep appointing him. He is typically inconsistent, one moment pedantic, and at other times seemingly oblivious. I always set myself for an uncomfortable game of viewing when he is appointed as the main ref, and even as a sideline official he has a secondary influence that is always questionable. Good summation, agree with your overview, and brought to light some I missed.
The first scrum example is touch judge call on the other side but the reffing was shocking whole game with some terrible highlanders calls as well. There was multiple of those massively crooked lineouts, they stand out as the most obvious cut and dry calls for spectators to be embarassed to watch being ignored.
That was such an intense game by both teams. I think what that match lacked was there wasn't really any rugby flow going on, there was lots of stop, start, stop start during the match. There were tons of The Highlanders defending...And when the Highlanders finally had the ball Highlanders did some few amazing tries. Fair play to the Waratahs for staying in the fight, also unlucky to Tane Edmed for just missing that last shot right on Full Time.
Mostly, it is referee calls and referee miscalls that ruin the game. This has always been the case, although it seems to have got worse. Perhaps it’s due to the increasing amount of rules?
Ok…but I don’t understand why you tarnish all Super Rugby over one real bad game. There are plenty of games where one can see other international or regional sides playing outside scope of laws and getting away with it
First and last Super Rugby game I'll bother to watch this year. Tahs, Landers and above all the ref... Just poor all round. Tahs were clearly the better team, but tried to lose and the ref gleefully obliged.
Hi Wildkard, are they experimenting with new laws? I'm from Namibia and after the South Africans left. I'm watching the URC a lot more. So, is it new experimentation - just like the golden point rule - which is stupid by the way.
Of Riley played well mate. All league players that cross over play well mate! Didn’t you know that? Yeah Izaia played very well, surely he is just ahead of ikitau for the wallabies?
@@Wildkard yeah fair shout! But there is also Lalakia who’s a good 12! Not sure about len having a better kicking game, Izaia is also a wing, so will have a good kicking skill set! Which is just normal requirement for playing in the back three! In the pro game
Once watched an entire game where the Stormers didn't win a single penalty.... so yeah. Poor refereeing is terrible. The best referees don't GAF and will just blow what they see. The emotionally involved ones will coach the teams and overlook things. BTW. Why are the referees coaching the players? It's nonsense. The players must know to move away from the ball after the tackle... for instance.
Australian refs have been a joke for a long time. Of course we need the game speed up but stinking to the rules. Stop the injury stops to slow the game down. Springboks are the worst at slowing the game down.
Right at Full Time, that should had been a Highlanders penalty for The Waratahs collapsing the scrums. Which means the Highlanders would had just kicked the ball out for Full Time anyways.
We always blame just the referee when things don't go right for one's team, but what about the touch judges? Your video caption shows a malfunctioning scrum, and for me, that's very hard for the referee to spot. If anything, that's 100% on the line official who has the best view of it, if it was missed.
NSW blaming everyone but their own egos for failing to play well enough to win. Australian rugby has been weighed down by the arrogance of NSW old boys for far too long. Stop kidding yourself it's the ref to blame for your below par performance. Qld and ACT understand what commitment looks like, even the Rebels do it better from time to time. Pretty sad to think a state that doesn't give two shits about rugby can do it better.
Whoever behind SR management sure is turning it into a joke. That said, WR arent much better at all. If the concern is too many penalties slowing the game down, you dont stop just blowing the penalties😂 Why is everybody ignoring the real elephant in the room about why the game is slow? The players and their unions. Dont stop blowing penalties, instead engage with unions and their players as to why they so bad at following the laws. If players keep making mistakes that need to be blown up nothing anybody can do, it will be a slow game with reality being the teams are shyte, shyte teams, shyte game. The area where referee's are to blame for slow games is their failure to enforce time wasting laws already in existence. Yes, fans hate cards, but time they woke up and starting blaming the players who are transgressing the laws of the game. Oh, and seriously, can NZ, JK and company be put in the naughty corner with all the nonsense of playing different interpretations and whatnot. WR must take the game by tue scruff of the neck and get every union on the same damn take on what the laws mean, no more interpretation nonsense.
Far better, so far the contests have been way more even. I'm of the opinion it's all entertainment and scripted. But at least it's entertaining if contests are closer. NZ got cocky because of their status in the rugby world. SA left and now look at them. Everyone can say yeah but they still made the world cup finals, yeah against Argentina. They did amazingly well against Ireland, but that was as good a game as you'll see NZ play, they don't do it consistently anymore. Just look up the article from 2000, it's still online, NZ refs blatanly cheating and being dumb enough to send an incriminating email about it. This was a long time coming, NZ will sink rugby wise now. When last were they number 1? The game has changed, NZ is still stuck in the past thinking that because they're NZ they'll get special treatment, now they leak yellow cards every other game and then claim nobody can beat them at full strength. Maybe stop tackling upright clearly shown in replays.

This is referee told by RA to ignore penalties to eliminate scrums
Lots of teams out there would be very happy if scrum penalties were no longer a thing. JK would be so excited.
The boks will just put 2 flankers at prop and collaps the scrum delibrately and win anyway

I hate how they just ignored the collapes scrum penslties against the tahs for the entire match
They are trying so hard to get rid of the effect of the Scrum, Springboks Witch Hunt continues, they are going to destroy the game in the Process.
Or get destroyed in test matches
The first scrum example is touch judge call on the other side but the reffing was shocking whole game with some terrible highlanders calls as well. Half Time wasn't 16-3 to The Waratahs. Waratahs just leed the Highlanders by 16-13.

Its news to me when a team collapes the scrum to save their own feed is not a penalty
