Audrey was Jack's rebound love from Teri. On the other hand, Audrey loved Jack whenever she saw fit. She couldn't love him for who and what he was. Their relationship should've been put in permanent rest in season 4. A lot of misery, pain and agony would've been spared for them. Jack only tried to start things with Audrey again because his daughter Kim had rejected him. He needed someone to nurture. The reason why he suspected she was working with Collette Stinger was because Audrey's vain and greedy. She's a politican, they would do anything for money. Like Stinger said "She sold the information, appearently she had a price". Jack never trusted Audrey or loved her enough otherwise he would've let her go a lot sooner. When she died, Jack felt a sense a relief because finally there was no one to hold him back from doing what he needed to do. When Audrey died, Jack was reborn. He was free from all the guilt and shame.
