- In this video I will show you how I am going to install the quarter on the bird. Sorry for the leaky air, it’s annoying I know. #autorestoration #firebird #musclecar #pontiactransam #carrestoration #hotrodsandmusclecars #pontiac #sem #classiccars
It's nice to see a guy that knows how to put a quarter on the car the correct way not like someone the other channels on You Tube. Nice job super professional and work you can be proud of.
I appreciate your comment.
Nice job! Love the panel bond.I was a body man for 25 years. I’ve done that more than I can count lol. Just finished a 77 SE complete restoration. Can’t wait to see the finished product.
I’m replacing the lower portion of the quarter panel on the driver side of my 73 Firebird. The rear portion of that quarter panel has a lip and it looks like a tux underneath behind the fence. Did you weld that in? How did you get in there to weld that piece of that part of the quarter panel in place? Any advice or any video you have of welding the lower bottom portion of the quarter panel into place would be awesome to see.
What I did was trimmed the lip a little and then I spot welded that in. The gap between the quarter and lower section was wide enough for me to get in there. It is tight though. Sorry no video of that being welded in.
Looks good. I see green on the door. Is that a brewster green T/A?
It’s not. Just a firebird. The car was yellow at one point. It’s Brewster green now.
The roof panel has holes in it did your panel tuck under that panel and butt at the bottom how did you deal with the holes do you have a video of this repair? I see a clamp you have in the corner of the window whats that holding? The patch panel was it like an L shape to close that little gap that the Window sits on Thanks
It did not tuck it under. When I trimmed the roof it was double paneled. So what I did was drilled holes to plug weld the roof skin to the inner structure, then once the quarter was welded in place I made a patch that I butt welded to the roof skin and the quarter. I wanted to remove that low area where the lead was. I do not have a video on this. Sorry it took so long to respond I’ve been on vacation. Any other questions feel free to ask. I’m hoping to do another video in the coming week.
I am doing the same job on a 1974 Trans Am I have to replace the inner wheel house as well as outer wheel house and drop off. They are all aftermarket panels but I do have an original Quarter Panel. Any advice you can give me that might help? The Quarter were it met the trunk drip rail did it just sit on top do we just blend with fiberglass? I can’t wait to see how you handle the gap at roof was worried about that.
If you have an original quarter I would use that. The Goodmark quarter I have fits well but nothing is better then factory panels. In the trunk area it will get welded and seam sealed just like the factory did. The gap on the roof is no problem. I will just cut out a piece of metal and butt weld it in.
@@whiteglovegarage5261 Thanks for getting back to me I look forward to more of your videos
What gage Metal did you use?
that’s one sexy car 🙈 👌
Where di you buy this quarter? Seems to have a good fit.
The quarter is from Goodmark industries. It fits really well!!
Did you do any welding on the fender job? Say it got hit later in an accident, how much trouble is it to remove the fender vs a weld job. I’m working on a 77 T/A that needs both rear quarters. I may consider the bonding option. Thanks
You definitely need to weld most of the quarter. I like the bonding procedure around the wheel well, it doesn’t only bond it but also seals between the panels.
Ok thanks
Ok thanks
Ok thanks
Ok thanks
Did you brace the body before removing the Quarter panel?
Hey Bruce, when doing a quarter panel like that there is no need to brace the car. You do want to make sure that the car is sitting on the rear suspension. I have Jack stands on the rear end.
I have a question for you did you weld the wheelhouse to the quarter panel or did you let the panel bond do the work.
I let the panel bond do the work around the wheelhouse.
@@whiteglovegarage5261 Ok thanks.
