Hello, and thank you for the videos! I have to ask, is the step where you dial to 0 without the counterweight and headshell mandatory? Is it wrong to start the process with these on?
No, you can start the balancing process with the head shell and counterweight on the tonearm. I just thought it would be easier to introduce the various moving or detachable parts in this way.
hi @GB Audio, i have the same turntable as you, i read somewhere (dont know if its true) that at the end of a record the arm should lift itself and the platter should stop, can you confirm this? and if so, have you any idea what could cause the problem? ty very much for the video :)
Yes that's correct. First, check the height adjustment of the arm lifter pillar. It's situated a bit left of the flat plate in front of the tonearm bearings (pivot points). The pillar is threaded so that it can be turned by hand to adjust the height of the lift. If that's not the problem, it may be a sticky or broken part of the mechanical linkage under the sub-chassis which kicks in when the tonearm reaches the end of a record. There is also a microswitch under the subchassis which the arm trips to turn off the motor power. These sometimes get sticky and may need cleaning/lubricating. To help orientate yourself around the subchassis, see the labelled photo at www.gbaudio.co.uk/data/cs505.htm Good luck.
Not all turntables set up the same way but your CS503-2 tonearm balance set up should be very similar to the CS505. Set the dial to 0, turn the counterweight so that it moves backwards or forward until the arm is balanced level. Then dial in the tracking weight recommended for your cartridge.
Wow, that was easy in comparison with my NAD C588! Many thanks for the easy-to-follow video!
You're welcome

That makes perfect sense. Thanks for answering! Cheers from Greece@@gbaudio1212
How do you increase the height of the arm when is cues, mine is very close to the play height?
I own the 506 like this one. The height is the piece in the back that lifts the arm. Feels like a gear. Just lightly turn it to adjust the height

Hi, how can you change your arm?
The CS505 is not designed to have an interchangeable tonearm
