Team XF 33 f1.4 or Team XF 35mm F1.4?
Team 35mm 1.4 just for the smaller size, weight, and crushed lens hood. Though I don’t own either at the moment. The 33 is certainly an exceptional lens though!!
Awesome ,I'm currently on Team XF 35mm F1.4 for its size and images I get from it., But I'm using the xt2,,once I upgrade to the xt5 I'll be on Team XF 33 f1.4. 4sure,,high five,,
I have both, but prefer the 33mm. However, I will keep the 35mm for nostalgic reasons and still take it out for shoots once in a while.
The one that I can afford the 35
Team 23mm & 56mm....
I own the XF35mm F/1.4 and have shot thousands of photos with it since 2016.
If i did not own the XF35mm F/1.4 and i was going to buy again... I'd certainly pick up the 33mm F/1.4 the upgrades are worth while.
Right now, in my bag is the Sigma 23mm & 56mm, the 35mm has a use-case in my work when i do popup portraiture as is the right focal length for the set up. however the 35mm F/1.4 focusses more than fast enough for that work, but outside that use case now all my fuji glass sits at home, and recently I've done things I'd never have thought of... actually selling glass.
The 35mm F/2 went, the 16-80 F/4 went.
the 18mm and 60mm and probably the 18-135 will go next, and possibly others.
I am really streamlining the kit.
This lens made me believe in Fuji as my main pro camera.
When I started with fuji I only used it for some casual personal stuff with a 27 2.8 but after getting the 33 1.4 for travel, I realised it was better than my full frame Canon setup. I was blown away by the sharpness and quality and the motor on this lens AF is as fast as my L canon lenses.
People say its pricey for an apsc lens but it is sharp wide open and if you compare it to some full frame’ pro’ lenses of the same equivalent focal length, you will have to stop then down to around f2.8 to get the same sharpness as the fuji so you can even say that the fuji sometimes beat full frame DOF… (unless of course you compare it to a $2500 lens like the rf 50 1.2 or the sony gm…)
Anyway I love this lens.
That's a good point! Thank you
I can completely agree with you, this lens deserved a video like this👏🏼👏🏼
Yes, this lens has become one of my favorites since acquiring it last year!
you and me both
Bought one few months back only shot with it once, I mainly tend to carry the 16-80
XF33mm F1.4 VS Laowa 33mm F0.95. I love both to the core. I would have picked for the Laowa for the charter and smooth bokeh, but the lack of weather sealing sucks and you can't beat with native Fuji lens.
I borrowed a friends Laowa 33mm for a weekend. Just about 30 minutes worth of practice and seen the results after shooting i was like WTF, this lens is super underrated, but i have to agree the lack of weather sealing does suck, especially in the winter months. the XF 33mm is so fast and beautiful!
If somehow laowa can put an AF in that 33mm F0.95 i would buy it haha
Got the 33mm 1.4 last month and love it, it's special.
agreed!
I was sorting my lenses the other day to "keep forever" and the 33 made the cut! Great video dude.
ahah that's awesome! which ones you getting rid of?
I share your opinion about this lens. All of my fuji lense gravitate around this one. Your video keep improving since i started following you, always a fun moment ,thank you !!
Thank you!
I got rid of the 35 f1.4 after a couple months with the 33. It’s my favorite Fuji lens. The new 56 f1.2 is right up there with
It's so so so good!
SO GOOD DUDE!
I never tried the 33mm. But i got 6 months ago the 35mm 1.4. And it quickly has become my favorite lens and replaced my standard zoom (sigma 18-50) as every day lens on my x-t5.
can't go wrong with the 35mm arguably the most beloved lens
I never liked a 50mm equivalent and started off with Fuji with the 23/1.4 original version. Then got the new 23/1.4 and tried out the 35/2.0... and finally the 33. I love it! And all. ofa sudden it seems I like 50 mm FoV :P Which I also now use on my film camera... (minolta).
for me it's teh opposite.. started with a 50mm didn't like the 35 FF equiv and now I love my 23mm F1.4 WR LM
18, 23 and 33 are the reason I stay with Fuji and put up with all the issues the xt5, xh2s and xh2 have. Those lenses are perfection 56 though! Could of been perfect if they put LM in it duuhhh 😂
I wish they put LM in the 56 as well :(
Thanks Tongue! Curious if you would have the same sentiments and opinion for Viltrox 27mm, if you happened to get your hands on it prior to this lovely 33mm?? 🙂
I like the Viltrox lenses a lot. And it performs like a native glass when it comes to sharpness. If you have money go native if you don’t have money go viltrox.
I almost bought this lens but then keeping true to my goal of why I switched from Canon (to go smaller and lighter) I opted for the 35 f/2. I love your photos and would love to know what your camera settings were for many. How do you shoot into the sun and keep the face of the models lit? Did you use a reflector or is it all lightened in post? And how do you know what settings to use for moving targets (like the people holding umbrellas in front of store/restaurant front)?
It's all done in post. If people only know how much information is in a raw file, they know they can really push their photos to the max.
Sold my 35mm f1.4 for this one ,no regrets, better autofocus, sharper and no color fringing.
That’s the spirit!
I shoot xpro2 and xt2. Kept the 35 1.4 with a Squarehood. Sold the 33. Just prefer the size of the 35. Figure I’ll just shoot my full frame if I want to run around with bigger lenses. In fact, I sold off all my 1.4 Fuji primes and exchanged for the F2 versions.
F2 lenses are great as walk around lenses. But I like the F1.4 too much haha
Hi Tongue! Im a beginner here. New to photography and I just bought a Fuji Xt-5 with 16-80mm kit lens. I was just wondering if you can give some advice. I’ll be buying my first prime lens anytime this week, which prime lens do you prefer? 23mm 1.4 Lm Wr, 27mm, or 33mm 1.4? I would be using for travel, and group photos(about just 2-5 people on it). Thanks in advance!
Hey I’m wondering, do you like shots with a bit of compression or not? For beginners I would recommend something like the standard focal length the 33mm. You already got a zoom lens to cover all the focal lengths you would need. What would be the purpose of having a prime?
I am planning for a Sirui 23 mm / or should i go for 33 mm? I have an Xh2s. Also when you talk about 33mm you are talking about focal length of 50 mm right?
Yes that is correct.
So filmic, what recipe were u using for the outdoor shots like 2:42?
it's my from my preset pack "#Cinefeels"

Hi, have you reviewed XT30ii ? I cant decide between XT30ii and H-S20. Does ibis really really needed if lenses like 15-45 or 18-55 have inbilt ibis . Thanks a lot !
Xs20
I also like small size and weight of apsc but at that price.. Full frame 50mm f1.4 f.e. from sigma is better choice with ff body.
Ya but then you have to deal with size and weight. Sigma lenses are nice but also full of chromatic abberation
Would you say the size savings on an X-S20 vs the Viltrox 27mm is significant enough that you'd pick one as a regular travel/everyday lens while the other is only used in photoshoots? Or would you say both are in the heavy category and you'd travel with an f2 lens instead? I consider the Viltrox 27 + a used Fuji 35 f2 for a similar total price, but then again I'd probably always pick the light 35 f2, while with the 33 1.4 could it be light enough to be an everyday lens? Hope you know what I mean, unfortunately can't test the lenses where I live
Yes I would. I think the viltrox 27mm 1.2 pro is such a top performer I’d pick it over the 35mm f2. And I am willing to sacrifice that size and weight for it.
just got used F 33mm f1.4 for good price!
but one thing that bug me, is the aperture blade sound normal? it is really noticeable, especially in quiet environment
I’m usually outside when I use it so I don’t hear anything
i just hope they make xf 16-80mm F4 II
I’d be curious in that
For anyone who’s used the 33 for more than a week… and has also the used the 35 for more than a year, they’ll say some of the things you’ve said. But for anyone who’s used the 33 for more than a few months, they’ll say ALL of the things you’ve said and then some. The 33 has a lot of sweet spots
It does hit the sweet spot
Had the 33 for 2 years, before that the 35 1.4 for about the same.
Never had an issue with the 35 in normal rain, sand, dust. The 33 gives added security, but given Fuji's warranties exclude damage due to those things of its WR lenses and bodies... Maybe not.
The 35 is just as sharp in the centre, has closer focussing and more pleasant, smoother bokeh. And it has character as the transition from the centre to the corners has a smooth drop off in sharpness.
The 33 is less interesting, the corner to corner uniformity makes for great clinical looking images if that's the goal but also can be rather boring as a consequence.
It's a great focal length 33 and 35, but what bugged me most about the 35 was the AF, and the lost shots because of slow to react AF or simply missed focus. As a lens I use for family documentary, the 35 was fine before the kids actually started moving around a lot more.
The 33 is great as a reliable, fast focussing standard lens with predictable, perhaps a bit boring output. I just wish it had the optical qualities of the 35 in terms of bokeh, close focus, character. The Viltrox 27 is the closes to that lens with its corner drop off, but it's a lot bigger and unfortunately has some of the same focussing issues of the 35.
But it's certainly not a slam dunk for the 33 against the 35. It's just different.
Is it better than XF 35 f1.4 if I'm a beginner (just bought x-s10)? Comparing these two and leaning towards 35, especially because of the price difference and "it's the most legendary lens by fuji" vibes from everybody😄
The 35mm is good, but it's older and I needed something with a better reliable autofocus.
As a hobbyist, I have never had much issue with 35 1.4 in terms of autofocus, but I can totally see how it could be an issue for a pro.
I have the 35mm 1.4 and i LOVE IT. I dont feel any need yet to exchange it with the 33mm. For video the 33mm will certainly be much better, but for photography only the 35mm is all i want and need
I wish the new 56 1.2 WR has the same great motor and Focus Speed. It struggles a lot on Weddings. 😢
Ya same. The 56mm sucks at af
I love edge wear it looks so rustic
I would prefer things to look brand new just for reselling purposes. But it does have its charm i guess
@@Iamtongue would you ever paint or customise your gear?
I am thinking of making my small rig into a bronze finish with some acrylic dry paint job
haha i don't have the patience to do something like that.
Mine is 23mm 1.4 WR!
Wanting to get this next to sit in between my 16mm 1.4 and 33mm, but Viltrox 27mm is giving me a hard time
I love my 23mm F1.4 LM WR
I don’t need anything better than the 35mm f1.4
You're a better man than I am.
Trolling our wives now, are we?...
That shot of the distant mountain, with her and the metal fence in the foreground 😂👌🏼
Always! But i also get her good shots she never uses 😆
I traded the 33mm F1.4 for the Voighlander 35mm F1.5, no regrets.
No RAGRETS
Do you like the 50 f1.0?
Nah, I find hte 50mm F2 more enjoyable. The 50mm F1.0 is too similar to the 56mm F1.2 that it didn't blow me away.
@@Iamtongue by that standpoint does the viltrox 75 f1.2 seem better then?
@@markoligaya560 yes I like that lens more.
Would a 33mm make sense on a XT3?
Definitely! I am very happy with it on my XT3.
YES!
Viltrox 27/1.2 has in my opinion more interesting rendering than both new 23/1.4 and 33/1.4 😉
Plus on top of that, 35mm prime will never replace 50mm prime and vice versa. But 40mm prime can easly replece both 35mm and 50mm primes in most cases.
I would love to get my hands on the Viltrox 27mm f1.2. I am currently using a Sigma 30mm f1.4. It is a decent little lens, but it leaves something to be desired. I am okay with the additional weight and size of the Viltrox lens.
Currently own both the Viltrox 27 and Fuji 33… the Viltrox is hands down the better lens except for the aperture ring (the 33 aperture ring is perfectly dampened). I completely agree that the 27 takes the best of the 23 and 33 and puts into one lens while being significantly sharper than both. In fact, sometimes it’s too sharp for portraits. But I’d rather have the sharpness than not. It’s easier to soften the lens tastefully than it is to add sharpness in post.
Viltrox 27mm F1.2 is nice if you're okay with the size
@@awake780and what about the Autofocus between the 27 and the 33?
@@robingrafie3027 depends, as always. If you’re shooting fast action, pick a different camera system. For stills of typical moving subjects (kids, pets, etc.) the Viltrox holds up well. Interestingly, the manual focus experience is way way better on the Viltrox. It actually pulls focus linearly unlike basically every Fuji lens except the two lenses with focus clutches (old 16 and 23).
23mm 1.4 lm wr for me
ya same
@@IamtongueI have the 23mm but why get the 33mm?
If you have GAS
this versus the viltrox 27mm?
if you have money go for the fuji if you dont go for the viltrox. Both are great
Save your money and buy the Viltrox. It’s a downright incredible lens.
For now I'll keep shooting with the 35mm f1.4 may be I'll buy the 33mm in the fiture. Do you know in the last few videos they end a few seconds before the end? We miss your "I love you!" Never in my entire life a dude told me "I love you" so many times. 😂😂😂
ohh no I usually say it but the video is always cutting off ;)
Team 35mm but I’ve not tried 33
You’re making me want to try it especially since I just bought the newer 23mm 1.4 LM WR
I love the 23mm F1.4 LM WR
@@Iamtongue oh yes!
I love my 35mm/F1.4. But I will buy 33mm this year 🤗 and not sell the 35mm.
I tried that but couldn't find time to shoot with both haha
Going to sell my 23mm for this 33mm.
Amazing!
Do you like the lens or not?
Of course lol 😆
Never get rid of…as the 90mm f2?
Ya that’s on a permanent loan. I can get it back if I exchange it for money.
